    I have been experiencing low fuel rail pressure in my 07 with the 4.8 as well. Same Vin Code C. I did already spring for the Fuel Pump replacement and that was a pain in the a$$ to replace! Going to check out this option next! I read another comment that mentioned Parts Geek the Dorman FPCM are now 123$ and come programmed for the specific year. Hopefully this is the answer. Nice video. Thank you

    Great video. Most modern Trucks have the FPCM. This knowledge can be applied to any vehicle that has the Fuel Pump Control Module. I will use your methodology to test the FPCM on my Land Rover. I will use the Launch to monitor and record the Fuel pressure to make the test easier. Testing the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor is part of the diagnosis too. The Snap On Guided Component Test is a God send for Technicians.

    Just to add some info. 1. If you replace the fuel system control module, (FSCM), it will need to be programmed to your vehicle, aaarrgghh!.... dealer 2. The FSCM connector/plug has a rubber seal in the connector, if that seal gets pushed down into the FSCM, it will not make electrical contact and the vehicle will still not start, even though the pump and the module are perfectly fine.

    Thanks again

    I have the same year. My Fuel psi fluctuates, at start up a good 60 psi after a few minutes the fuel psi drops down to 40 psi so low it creates misfires and shuts off then shoots back up a little later to 60psi. I know on these models the regulator is built in with the pump. You ever experience this? Thank you

    Also, check the grounds on the frame. You would not believe the mischief a bad ground can cause.

      The fuel pump is designed with the sending unit that goes directly in the tank. I replaced my fuel pump module this summer. The module replaces the fuel pressure regulator and it looks like a music CD case that is bolted under the frame. You have to remove your spare tire under the truck to easily get to it.

I've taken the bed off and tested the fuel pump with a battery on the positive and negative prongs on the pump and the pump runs. I have swap the fuel pump relay and fuse but when I check the fuse it's not getting any power to it but the relay has power. However, if I jump the 30 and 87 on the relay I get power to the fuse. I then went to the gray wire to the fuel pump and with a helper turn the key on engine off and test the wire and there is no power at the gray wire for the 2 seconds that it suppose to supply power. What else can I check? If I knew what color the fuel pump fuse wire was I can trace it.

    Hey Oz I've got a 2010 silverado, it has 18 psi key on engine off, after initial prime, psi goes to 0 immediately. It takes a couple cranks to start the truck. And the truck runs at 18 psi. It sets several lean codes. And runs rough. I tested fpcm, pink ignition feed and it was 14.2v running, red with white tracer B+ was also 14.2 running. Then i tested the thick grey wire that is positive to fuel pump. Truck running and idling it was fluctuating between 11.4 and 11.9v. The pink ground to fuel pump was .20mv. Now here is where I'm confused, the battery voltage was 14.2 running. The power feed from fpcm to fuel pump was between 11.4 and 11.9v i know the pump is bad because the check valve is not holding pressure, key off pressure drops to 0 immediately. Was the grey wire power feed to fuel pump supposed to be battery voltage 14.2 or was the 11.4, 11.9 good? My understanding, and i may be wrong is the regulator is built into the pump and the pump is pulse width modulated to increase pump speed to build more pressure or less pressure depending on fuel rail pressure sensor and fuel demand. I called the pump on this truck but I'm questioning myself on the fpcm. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm very green at diagnostics and want an experienced opinion. Because if the 11.4 and 11.9 were supposed to be battery voltage then this truck will need a fpcm also. Thank you in advance for any help!

    • @OzMechanics
      @OzMechanics  5 лет назад +1

      You are pretty much spot on with everything. Have you looked at your data pids to see what you fuel pressure sensor is reading ? And how much pressure the pcm is commanding to the fpcm? If they all read good get a jumpered fuse and put b+ to the fuel pump and see if the pressure increases. If it does your problem is the module. Make sure to get it reprogrammed afterwards

    • @BuggysTowJam
      @BuggysTowJam 5 лет назад

      @@OzMechanics I'll have to recheck my data pids. When i supply battery voltage which was 14.2v to fuel pump with power probe should i have the connector unplugged? That was my fear in sending the battery voltage to the pump. Being plugged into the fpcm i wasn't sure if i could do any internal damage to the fuel pump control module doing that. Because the connector was plugged into the fpcm and i was doing all testing through piercing probe and i used liquid electrical tape to seal up where i punctured wires to do the tests.
