I keep getting reminded about the Hitler Youth when it comes to clones, especially younger ones. Many members of the Hitler Youth where litterally born and raised to server the Nazis, having countless propaganda thrown in their faces. However, the most messed up thing is that many where sent into battle in their teen years, 16-18.
The Hitler Youth were likely the most innocent members of the regime, but at the same time, they were also the most dangerous because they were more thoroughly indoctrinated, and thus were ticking time bombs, yet none of that could be blamed on them because, unlike those who started as adults, they knew no other way of life. :( That tragedy extends to child soldiers and children used as suicide bombers today; currently the most innocent but also the most dangerous in the long term.
Political Reaction actually the Kaiser's forces in the first World War. Because they had to come up with something to break the stalemate trench warfare had become. Fast moving teams of men with quick firing weapons seemed to work but there wasn't enough of them and the conventional troops couldn't exploit the stormtroopers' gains. Further, Germany itself couldn't sustain the war effort. A good idea but too late and not enough to change the war.
You forgot to note that due to accelerate aging, most of the clones are actually ten years old, leading to a fact that the are in fact children soldiers.
Rex... why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg and my arm... even my fingers... the body I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting. It's like they're all still there. You feel it too, don't you? I'm the one who got caught up with Gregor. A group above the Republic... even the Senate. And I was the parasite below, feeding off Palpatine's power. They came after the Jedi on Utapau... then the Temple on Coruscant... The Empire... just keeps growing. Swallowing everything in it's path. Getting bigger and bigger... Who knows how big now? Boss. I'm gonna make 'em give back our past... take back everything that we've lost. And I won't rest... until we do.
Here's my fan made version of what happened to the clones after the war: After the war ended, nearly the entire majority of all the clones who've survived the war all discovered that they have been wrongly done by the republic, they even realized that the reason for all of their suffering was all because of the kaminoans, their creators who slaughtered, enslaved, frankensteined and abused all of their clones. The clones decided to band together to get revenge against their oppressors so they gathered as many free clone troopers that they could and they secretly infiltrated kamino, they used their military skills to take over the server with the aid of the bad bunch, they had taken over the control room that controlled every clones inhibitor chip and they used it to create their own order 66, every clone in the radius of the signal all started to attack and kill their creators, the kaminoans who were jumped and frightened, immediately went to hit the kill switch for all of the clones in the galaxy but the bad bunch members Jessie and Tech had disabled it, they had disabled everything the kaminoans had to control their clones and soon, their creations were successful and had fully invaded kamino, the clones had taken complete military control over the cloning facilities, they freed all of their imprisoned brothers who were originally meant to be set for termination and the kamino race was completely exterminated on their homeworld. The clones, now in control of the planet that they all had came from, decided to adjust the cloning machines to their liking so that their future generations of clone brothers or sons won't have to be put through the same pain that they have for so long, they created their own clone society and made a treaty with the empire to lend palpatine as many clone bodies as they wish, as long as the clone bodies don't have sentience or is actually living and breathing and will only be used to transfer consciousness, in exchange the empire allowed the clones to have their independence on kamino and promised to never bother them, any kamino that had survived from the clone invasion on their homeworld have now went into hiding, are scattered across the galaxy and their numbers have dropped into the hundreds, meaning that they were now an endangered species. Some thought to band together and retake their world again but the clone army had *DOUBLED* in size, scientific research and they have made allies with the empire, not only that but the empire seized the moment to enslave some of the kaminoan people and they have forced them in secret to build new weapons and medical research to better the galactic empire..... and that's how I think the story should've been like.
Agreed. It’s been several years and yet Disney hasn’t created anything as interesting as anything in Legeds. Maybe how the First Order stormtroopers are trained and work but, well, they treat them like a joke on screen and in game.
THANK YOU. I have been pointing out the *dubious* morality of the jedi creating and maintaining a private army of *child slave soldiers* for years, to no avail...
Kyle Jordan Gaming The Jedi didn’t create the army, Dooku created the army. Did you not watch Episode II? And they only maintained the army (also fighting for clones’ rights might I add), because there was no other option to stop the Separatists. What did you want them to do? Let Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padmé get executed for trying to apprehend a criminal? Let the Republic crumble under Separatist attacks?
@@firebluetoad3990 Sifo was the one who ordered the creation of the army of clones with the approval of Chancellor Palpatine, Dooku took over the project later but he did not start it, also Anakin, Padme and Obi wan were going to be executed for: Committing espionage, murder of several Geonosian workers, and attempted sabotage of a state factory WITHOUT BOTH FACTIONS BEING AT WAR, Obi wan did not respect the sovereignty of the CIS over Geonosis and his two rescuers did all that, plus Dooku gave them the opportunity to be forgiven for their crimes to change to join him, which they refused to do, then they went to trial for their crimes and the punishment for their crimes was the death penalty, the law of Geonosis also says that the way to kill the condemned, in being debased By beasts in a battle arena, which the CIS government accepted, the Republic then, instead of sending diplomats to negotiate the release of the prisoners, decided to send more than 200 Jedi to occupy the battle arena and try to arrest the CIS government, if that is not a declaration of war then I don't know what it is, but they failed, most of them died in combat and despite all this Dooku gave them the opportunity to surrender In exchange for not being killed, to which the Jedi fanatics refused, to top it off the Republic then brought in a giant army that they had apparently been secretly creating to invade Geonosis, and they also try to arrest the leader of the CIS again ... Isn't it really obvious who started the Clone Wars?
@@condedooku9750 you are willfully ignoring any context to what actually happened and simply trying to paint the jedi as the bad guys The entire reason why obi wan went to geonosis was because he was tracking Jango fett ( a bounty hunter who was suspect of attempting to murder a senator). The reason why obi wan called for jedi help was because the CIS already wanted war with the republic count dooku himself talked about how the jedi will be overwhelmed by the superior number of the Droids that itself gave every right for the republic and the jedi to do what they did as war was inevitable
I remember watching Attack of the Clones back when it came out and being somewhat disturbed by the clone production process. But I was never much of a Star Wars fan, and I never read any books or watched any of the animated series. Recently my son has become obsessed with all things Star Wars so I have been watching both the movies and the Clone Wars series with him, and my heart goes out for the clones all the time. Even though some of the Jedi try to treat them with some compassion, more often they are treated just as much as connon fodder as the Battle Droids on the other side - and with no hope of "going home" at the end of their service. It's interesting how there is this tragic story right there in plain sight of what on the surface is a good guys vs. bad guys space opera. I have actually gained a lot of respect for George Lucas: sure, his writing can be cringy, etc. etc., and as a late-20's protohipster when the prequels came out, I dismissed them as trash. But to show a big Space War where both sides are morally compromised (and indeed, where the same people are behind the scenes pulling the strings on both sides) in a kids movie? That's pretty ballsy...
Apparently the Star Wars equivalent of the Geneva Convention didn't restrict the sorts of weapons that could destroy all organic life within a large radius. Or were the Separatists breaking Intergalactic Law?

Every single clone fought for something they didn't believe in and some even sacrificed their own lives for their jedi generals and some even sacrificed themselves to save thousands if not millions of people. But even with all of that the jedi got most or all the credit when in reality they may have been miles away from the actual fight. Even though the clones were sentient beings who had feeling fears and felt pain they still were treated like nothing more then a science experiment. With all of this it makes you wonder if Palpatine was correct about the jedi all along and that they should have went extinct.
Justin Lozada after Geonosis, the clones fought for each other. Reality had set in. Jedi weren't as good as the propaganda made them out to be. Some clone commanders were quite happy to blow away some Jedi: Commander Bacara was pretty upset that the Jedi had attempted a coup and thought about all his brothers who'd died while under the leadership of that cone head Jedi. He didn't need the chip at all.
Osama Bin Laden I don't know about 40K but the clone were created in tubes, grown with artificial acceleration that was extremely damaging, never had a private life, were brainwashed from birth, didn't not received any salaries, didn't have any rights, were executed for any slight defect and hunted for leaving the Army; besides the hell that was their first Battle of Geonosis I don't think any soldiers in fiction or real life had worse.
maria celeste Xavier That's all? How cute. It's clear you don't know how terrible 40k is compared to star wars. Go and read the imperial guard article on 1d4chan.
I feel thankful that the 2008 Clone Wars existed to give me a childhood and to flesh out the clones, the 2003 micro series was pretty good, I loved it, but I feel bad that we didn’t get much development for the clones, it’s good we got several hours of development.
When I heard that season seven of The Clone Wars was coming out, I started watching the series for the first time since I was ten years old. The series is absolutely depressing with showing the reality of life for the clones. Never before have I been so upset over fictional characters’ treatment.
4:46 "The Battles the Clones were forced to fight in were nothing like the simulations" Clone: Nothing at all like the Simulations on Kamino. Also Clone: JUST LIKE THE SIMULATION
I never knew how dark a clone troopers back story could be until now. It's so sad, especially removing 70% of a clones organic body structure and replacing them with machinery.😥
I think 99 was better than any other clone. He was only in a couple of episodes in the clone wars, but still he was a heart warming character and his death pretty much gave everyone tears.
4:47 "The battles that the clones were forced to fight in were nothing like the simulations that they practiced in. Sure the simulations prepared them to physically fight and survive in battle, but it did not prepare them for the true horrors of war as they witnessed their comrades" Random clone trooper in the middle of the battle: "JUST LIKE THE SIMULATIONS"
I would argue the propaganda efforts to instill loyalty to the Republic is only a minor factors for why the Clone Army fought as hard as it did. For one, all the clones were grown in a communal training environment, and knew nothing else. Like the allegory of the cave scenario, it's hard to grasp freedom if you don't know or haven't experience it. Second, growing up in a communal system also instilled immense loyalty to both the system you are serving and the Soldier next to you. It's the number one reason why Soldiers in any military across history generally go back to the frontlines even if they have frequently experienced hardships. It's because they don't want to let their unit or Soldier next to them down. So for example, if you were to ask a German on the ground in the waning days of WWII, even when all hope was lost, why he was still fighting, the number one reason was for the person next to them.
5:25 they should make that canon, I do love me some stories about Clones getting to have happy lives outside of the Republic or refusing Order 66 becoming Rebels.
I think it wouldve been more effective if the growth accelerant was made to wear off once the clones reached a decent fighting age. That would have extended their use and their value
The Republic's officer corps was small and largely ineffectual. They did not have enough officers to run the war effort after the Ruusan Reformation and several of them held old-fashioned mentalities that viewed soldiers as expendable. Without the Jedi, you're still looking at poor tactics and dead clones. One might argue that the Republic could have placed clones in-charge, but that really doesn't change the situation. The clone lieutenants, captains and commanders were versed in tactics and capable of informing their Jedi. The Jedi were capable of learning about tactics themselves, and had the physical capabilities to protect their troopers far beyond the capacity of an ordinary officer. Some Jedi treated their clones like cannon fodder, as some ordinary officers did. Any Republic officer looking to betray the Republic for the Separatists could have used Krell's methods, costing those thousands. The Jedi cannot be appropriately blamed as a whole due to the fact that there was nobody stepping up to take the positions they were to be given. Mass execution does not provide any appropriate justice for the actions of a few awful Generals, one, that being Krell, was already dead at the time. The clones' anger would have been more appropriately directed at the Galactic Republic, which allowed the Jedi, an order of peacekeepers, to become officers and then kept them there. The Republic cut corners on most of their military projects and did not train enough officers fast enough, which was ultimately Sidious's plan: to put the Jedi in a position where they had to lead lest there be no leaders, watch them fail, then turn the democratic republic into a dictator-led imperium that had it's own officer corps plentifully stocked.
The creation of the clones is very depressing topic that only fuels my hatred for the kaminoans and my distain at the tactics used during the battle if Geonosis
The Clone trooper Slick had a really good point: He betrayed the Republic because he hated that his brothers were being used for slavery. He wanted them to be free.
It is not going well. My aat driver has gotten his arms ripped ofF. Crap. I hear them banging the upper access to the tank. Fuck. Dammit. TELL I WAS DESTROYED IN SERVICE AHHHHH *CRUCH CRACK BAM* *RAAAR*
One thing I keep thinking about is that, if the republic won the clones wars, how would retired clones be treated. Would they be accepted into societies, or even governments, or would they be segregated, like aliens in the empire, or to compare in our history, like blacks in America
They probaly would have a hard time getting into civilian life. A better comparison would be real veterans coming home from war and being introduced to civilian life again
Alonzo Aldaba It was mentioned in the video. They would be segregated in retirement homes, and while you may think that only the Empire used them retired clones were the old and INJURED ones. Infact I think the Empire treated them better than the Republic would have ever done by trying to find a way to counter the deterioration.
starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Retired_clone_trooper We don't know that the clones were forcibly segregated for their retirement. More than likely they were stuck on planets close to the Outer Rim and encouraged to act as labour for farms and whatnot, which isn't far off from how the Old Republic treated their person-born troops. It's obvious that they weren't censored given the fact that this 501st trooper got to recount what occurred during the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War.
He knew about some of it, and he tried to rectify at least some of the worst problems (ie personally training some of the early ARC troopers, introducing Mandalorian culture, etc).
I much prefer the Legends continuity Clones and Mando lore (not counting the CGI Clone Wars series as part of the Legends continuity since it created waaaaaay too many contradictions)
Yang the Magician Yep. Liked Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex and most of the newly introduced troopers, but seriously: *Screw* the stupid, ass-pull inhibitor chips and their portrayals of Mandalorians as freaking _pacifists_
Siggy Reagan It’s just so incredibly stupid, both lorewise (how would a few unarmed pacifists reform a planet full of highly trained, armed to the teeth people, whose culture is formed all around battle?!) and from a vendor‘s point of view (if the Mandalorians have their cool armour, there’s gonna be more hyped up fans buying stuff with them).
Is it possible that some clone units such as the secretly created 501st Legion knew about Order 66 was a potential order under contingency, while most of their men lacked inhibitor chips past a certain point? That would justify both the 501st trooper's dialogue in SWBFII 2005 AND the Tup arc.

Seems the Mandalorian trainers and Jango Fett had the most compassion and love for the clones. Sad they had such a horrible life.
Of course those mandalorians were from the true mandalorians not deathwatch like the piece of shit bo katan

That tragedy extends to child soldiers and children used as suicide bombers today; currently the most innocent but also the most dangerous in the long term.
Alonzo Aldaba storm troopers did come from , the Nazis after all
Political Reaction actually the Kaiser's forces in the first World War.
No doubt, what happened to these young people was a tragedy.
Many 12 and 13 year olds fought in WW1.
This just makes it even more impressive that Rex and Wolffe function as well as they do, and makes Gregor's childlike nature more understandable.

The clones were slaves to Palpatine when order 66 issued.
Zero Arashi Uchiha they nerve had any freedom to begin with, they were engineered for the republic by the republic, they were born with nothing
Here's my fan made version of what happened to the clones after the war:
After the war ended, nearly the entire majority of all the clones who've survived the war all discovered that they have been wrongly done by the republic, they even realized that the reason for all of their suffering was all because of the kaminoans, their creators who slaughtered, enslaved, frankensteined and abused all of their clones.
The clones, now in control of the planet that they all had came from, decided to adjust the cloning machines to their liking so that their future generations of clone brothers or sons won't have to be put through the same pain that they have for so long, they created their own clone society and made a treaty with the empire to lend palpatine as many clone bodies as they wish, as long as the clone bodies don't have sentience or is actually living and breathing and will only be used to transfer consciousness, in exchange the empire allowed the clones to have their independence on kamino and
promised to never bother them, any kamino that had survived from the clone invasion on their homeworld have now went into hiding, are scattered across the galaxy and their numbers have dropped into the hundreds, meaning that they were now an endangered species.
That's pretty cool
Hey, don't stop doing these Legends videos anytime soon. I look forward to them more than canon. They're great
Agreed. It’s been several years and yet Disney hasn’t created anything as interesting as anything in Legeds. Maybe how the First Order stormtroopers are trained and work but, well, they treat them like a joke on screen and in game.
This video made me more teary eyed than I expected, the Clones deserved better :(
THANK YOU. I have been pointing out the *dubious* morality of the jedi creating and maintaining a private army of *child slave soldiers* for years, to no avail...
Kyle Jordan Gaming
The Jedi didn’t create the army, Dooku created the army.
@@condedooku9750 you are willfully ignoring any context to what actually happened and simply trying to paint the jedi as the bad guys
The entire reason why obi wan went to geonosis was because he was tracking Jango fett ( a bounty hunter who was suspect of attempting to murder a senator).
I know this is two years later but I am curious; has watching The Clone Wars and rewatching the films with your son changed how you view the prequels?
Jeez where is Geneva convention when you need it
Alderaan convention
The starwars Geneva convention just prohibited the use of the kind of weapons that we have in the real world, lightsabers don’t count though

Clones are like any soldiers sent to a foreign planet/country to fight for a war they know nothing about
Alex Vendome Gardner So just like the imperial guard from 40k?
No, the clone's situation is much worse because they never had any previous life to begin with.
maria celeste Xavier But they don't have to deal with the things that the imperial guard has to deal. Star wars is very light compared to 40k.
At least someone on Kamino cared for them. Shaak Ti was always polite and cared for the Clone Troopers.
Imagine if the clones rebelled, but instead of like order 66, instead they made their own government, that would make a cool alternative timeline
When I heard that season seven of The Clone Wars was coming out, I started watching the series for the first time since I was ten years old. The series is absolutely depressing with showing the reality of life for the clones. Never before have I been so upset over fictional characters’ treatment.
4:46 "The Battles the Clones were forced to fight in were nothing like the simulations"
Clone: Nothing at all like the Simulations on Kamino.

Droids were a more humane choice than clones.
4:47 "The battles that the clones were forced to fight in were nothing like the simulations that they practiced in. Sure the simulations prepared them to physically fight and survive in battle, but it did not prepare them for the true horrors of war as they witnessed their comrades"
Random clone trooper in the middle of the battle: "JUST LIKE THE SIMULATIONS"
The Republic commando novels go into depth about how the clones were raised on Kamino, they're definitely worth a read.
Dang, the clone training is *EXTREMELY* harsh!
Man, before watching all these videos, I never realized how dark Star Wars actually was.
I love Clones.. I'm glad they got to have a bit of revenge on the republic through Order 66, taking down it's Jedi Knights...
The clones would have served in the war regardless of Jedi intervention. How does destroying the Jedi actually count as proper vengeance?
This might be one of my favorite Star Wars fact videos ever.

One thing I keep thinking about is that, if the republic won the clones wars, how would retired clones be treated. Would they be accepted into societies, or even governments, or would they be segregated, like aliens in the empire, or to compare in our history, like blacks in America
The republic did win the clone wars, sorta.
Alonzo Aldaba OMG get over this blacks thing
They probaly would have a hard time getting into civilian life. A better comparison would be real veterans coming home from war and being introduced to civilian life again
Alonzo Aldaba It was mentioned in the video. They would be segregated in retirement homes, and while you may think that only the Empire used them retired clones were the old and INJURED ones.
Infact I think the Empire treated them better than the Republic would have ever done by trying to find a way to counter the deterioration.
starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Retired_clone_trooper
We don't know that the clones were forcibly segregated for their retirement.
Theres so much potential to make a gripping war movie or game with the Clone Troopers. Always a fan of the Clone Wars era

4:45 JUST LIKE THE SIMUL-oh wait, never mind...
ViolentScorl pacifist Mandos. Like handsome and romantic orcs or Hutts who cared about their weight or hotties whose crap doesn't stink.
Its nice to see Star Wars retain some realism in how veterans of wars are treated
weren't the clones also modified to be more tolerant to stress?
