The competition between Gollum and Skull Island: Rise of Kong for number 1 is stiff
Stiffer than morning wood 🪵
Dude gollum wasn't that bad people just piled on. The prison part was actually quite good. Kind of fellow apart after that
@@dougr8646 basic minded
@@dougr8646I see what you did there.
Lemme know if skull and bones enter the ring
That "Is he big, or is he just normal sized?" segment was pure gold.
After heavy research and a costly investigation, I have concluded he is supposed to be big. Every time he lands he makes a loud sound and cracks the ground. So the scale is terribly represented
Actually it's because skull Island is a land of giants and giant flora. So like actually Kong is big but then the trees are masssssive.
@@VideoGamesMusicMeI’m surprised you’re the first comment I’m seeing mentioning that it’s in skull island
Tiny Kong.
There is a ben 10 game low budget on ps4/ps5 much better then this and cheaper😂
What's funny is that the 2005 tie-in game for that King Kong is actually pretty damn good, one of my favorites.
Plus it had every nearly actor from the film in it and they all were pretty good.
I was thinking the same thing, it came with a bundle when I got the 360. Kong 2005 had some of the best graphics at the time.
@@Natureboy8383 I'm a big scaredy cat about insects, so it was also one of the scariest games I'd ever played lol
@@jimmymeridian5174 😂 yeah they had some huge centipedes and other insects on that game for sure
I like how this says "every nearly actor" instead of "nearly every actor". Like they're actors...nearly.
It's CRAZY to me that a game like this can even be released nowadays😂
But somehow isn't really that surprising anymore...
Not really, you quite often have these very well connected, wealthy people who own a studio filled with newly minted game devs fresh out of college who are prepared to be paid a pittance for their first gig. Then the owners give the devs like 12 months to go gold while literally offering no means to ensure a proper QA process and demanding a near constant crunch mode to meet deadlines.
Meat grinder studios are far too common and they'll never go away as long as people keep offering to work for them.
we gotta applaud these guys for actually creating a game that can rival or even surpass gollum as the worst game of 2023. that right there is quite impressive
we don't gotta applaud a damn thing. It's like applauding the last person in a race 🤡.
So yea, "YOU" gotta applaud it, Not anyone else, and it's not rude or ignorant. It's factual,
But since you're into 🥩🚲ing, why don't you buy the game and DLC if you "gotta applaud" them 🤡

How do we know that the Gollum developers didn't make this game just to make Gollum look better?
i thought about that the other day, like a big dev greenlighting this game to make people care more about lackluster AAA games, but i think this game just exists because king kong is in the public domain and fair use as far as copyright law (for video games at least)
The Plot Thickens!
And now the studio of gollum launches and actual game of Kong now that the bar is ultra low
Because the studio that made Gollum was shunt down after launch.
Because it doesn't make Gollum better and developers clearly short on funds aren't going to spend extra on another game...
I played the PS2 King Kong game. Part of what made the PS2 game good was that you spend a lot of time as Jack in FPS combat. There pretty much everything felt dangerous as Jack and the world has this certain sense of scale to it, but when you finally play as Kong, you see the comparison of scale and danger levels, you feel huge being in these same environments and like a badass, easily killing these monsters that posed such a threat to Jack. However, Kong's controls were pretty simple and there wasn't really much of, if any, particle effects to help elevate the feel of his powerful blows.
After seeing the trailer for this game, I wasn´t drawn to buy it, but with seeing at least the new particle effects, I had hope that he would actually feel as powerful as he should have in the 2005 game. It's sad to see this be what the next Kong game is and I'm disappointed in the inconsistent sense of scale here.
Congrats for not buying another bad game lol don’t buy cash grabs or they keep making them
I remember that game it was actually pretty fun lmao
In the PS2 game, you can enter rage mode and your attacks feel more powerful, with a little more oomph to it, and slow-mo. Those hits always felt good.
@@fransthefox9682 Oh true! I was forgetting about how the hits feel in that state.
@@667GameFreak Not to mention when different music kicks in in that state.
Sometimes I get a nostalgic yearning for the fun I had playing licensed games on my PS2 and GBA as a kid, but then I hear about modern licensed games like this and Gollum, and realize some nostalgia is just better enjoyed as memories and not something to try to recapture.
When a game is good, anyone can review it. But when a game is terrible, I need Falcon to be the one to tear it apart.
Falcon does it like it's his job or something. It is a thing of beauty. But to be fair, Angry Joe's has his own very different style of reviews that are equally as effective/acceptable. And the contrast between falcons calm demeanor and Angry Joe's blazé especially when watching their reviews of the same game back to back creates its own special entertainment bubble that is worth experiencing multiple times across many different game titles....
Yahtzee is pretty brutal to a bad game
I always feel bad for devs on games like this. I don’t think anyone WANTS to make a bad game. Things like this often are a result of bad management and planning and the programmers do their best with the direction they’re given.
I don't feel bad for them at all, they got paid to make this.
@@JukaDominatorThis is Gamemill, they are incredibly cheap and screw over their developers. So let's hope they got paid.
@JukaDominator But if it's bad it's probably gonna be their last paycheck at that job. Any sensible person would want more than one check
I don't think "bad management" is an excuse for things like unresponsiveness, bugs, terrible level designs, terrible UI, etc.. No management is going to tell its developers to make sure players have the worst time playing the game
@@rasmie8858I get what youre going at. But I hope, and truly believe, some designers was sitting there with higher ups breathing down their neck, "finish it faster" and what not. Terrible management shows better in some proffessions than others.
It's one thing making a low-effort, lack of passion infused game. There are times when players feel like just jumping into quick mindless little games, but Falcon went straight into the most important point first, the obnoxious pricing and DLCs, laying the foundation for why the game is not mindless fun but just nonsense.
And that is a reason why I trust Gameranx reviews and an avid subscriber and viewer of the channel. Thank you once again, Falcon and Gameranx.
This is the kind of game you’ll later find tons of in a surplus, or Dollar Store bin, but actually should be taken out to a desert and buried. I really appreciate the Gameranx crew for saving time and wallets. This DEFINITELY needs to be a regular segment!
Surprisingly impressive that they made Kong look soo small, Takes some real effort but they pulled it off
was thinking the same, he looks like an average sized gorrilla somehow, wtf
Its skull island, BOTH creatures and flora are big, so kong is his normal size and the trees are massive compared to ours
@@r32juandoes that include the rock ?
That was the original name for this game....King Kong: Average Sized Gorilla.
I'm glad I have King Kong on PS2 and I'll never have to play this.
That game was great actually!
@@tommygunner176 Indeed
I'm sad I gave in to peer pressure back in the day when it came yo that game. Some friends find out I had the game and liked it, and they treated it as a point of mockery. I sold the game and hadn't thought about it til a couple years ago and was wishing I still had it on 360. Now people on ebay are charging nearly full price for used copies.

I’m glad he mentioned “Is Kong big?” That was the first thing I noticed watching this. Thank you Falcon. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love it when you’re bitter about something. It’s always entertaining, and on point.
How did Gollum have a better "running on all fours" animation than King Kong?
We had an unusual number of incredible and terrible games this year. Still preferable to just a bunch of mediocre games in my opinion.
true
Terrible games... Redfall, Forspoken, Gollum and now this. That's like 4 games and only like 2 of them are AAA (not sure about how much money Gollum had put into it). I'd say the good far outweighs the bad this year.
🤓
L comment
Unusual because there's so many good and so few that are bad?
I wonder if you commented before even listening to Falcon's first statement
All thats missing is an AI generated apology letter
I'm surprised they didn't make one yet considering people all over the world payed 50 for this game.
As one does when they make a horrible game in 2023.
Skull Island: Rice Kong
Can we get Falcon reviewing more bad games, I love this!
I've played this game for 5ish hours. I'm in Chapter 3 of 5, I think if the map worked or the game wasn't just a huge maze I'd be done by now. It didn't help that the game crashed 2 hours in and when I reloaded it has deleted all my saves. Or when I accidentally clipped through a breakable wall and it yeeted me back to the starting area 🫠🙃 I want to finish it but I don't know if I have the strength
Almost seems like the world's first fully AI generated game to be published.
I think AI could do better tbh.
No way, AI is far more imaginative than this.
This or gollem. The art here is better at least
Gollum has found a worthy opponent.
Sounds like gollum tried harder but failed at...everything.
This game...tried nothing and succeded.
This is one of my favorite videos ever from you guys 😂 we need more crappy game videos! I died of laughter from this one, thank you!!
Falcon I love your reviews bro but at 11:29 that pop is from the torch in the background. Would recommend better headphones if you can't hear the obvious torch playing the entire time before it crackles.
I’m shocked at how many good games we’ve gotten this year . We have been spoiled
Definitely
oh for sure: Lies of P, ACM, Ghostrunner 2, The First Descendant (Beta), ect ect. Bunch of great games so far
dont worry modern warfare III 2 or whatever will be out soon to balance things out
@@moosevision8113CoD are never really bad games. They are decent but plagued with aids monetization. People like to over hate on the series and it definitely has it's problems and those problems are Bobby Kotick.
MW19 was great but it had ass multiplayer levels.
Cold War had an awesome campaign.
Vanguard was straight dogshit
MW2 was OK but plagued with awful monetization (like Diablo 4)
MW3 is just DLC for MW2 being sold full price.

I only have two questions:
1 On which did you spend more time; the game or the review?
2 Did you lose a bet and as punishment you had to do this video?
But thanks for the "before you avoid"!
love your descriptions bud :) thx Falcon for giving me some honest chuckles at the end of a long day
The "terrible, terrible" at the end made me bust of laughing for some reason 😂
Lords of the Ring: Gollum might take the cake man. This does look bad though.
LOTR Gollum: Finally, a worthy opponent! Our battle will be..... Forgotten!
The breakdown around the messed up scale of Kong had me dying laughing 🤣 thanks Falcon!
They should do a mash up of Gollum and Rise of Kong.
Maybe name it High Island: Rise of Bong.
And yes, I am tired. 😅
I only watched this video, but I still feel like I want my money back...
I’m cancelling my Spider-Man pre order and playing this masterpiece instead 😂
lol
Return to monke!
What I find funny is that while you play as King Kong, the show of scale in the game sucks so much that he looks like he's no larger then a regular person in most cases. (Unless he's supposed to be that small)
Hey gameranx, it’s a really good idea to make videos of this type as well, ‘what not to spend your hard earned money on’ haha. Very good initiative I find.
I haven't seen a single screen shot that made Kong look taller than 3 ft tall which is particularly weird considering Kong is literally only known for being 25+ ft tall.
I haven't heard about this Skull Island: Rise of Kong, but to think that you dedicated a video slot for this game, it's gotta be a worthy opponent to Gollum lol
Doesn't nvidia and amd allow you to change film grain filters?
5:02 what is that motion 😂😂😂😂
Aaaah a battle worth remembering, gollum vs king kong
This is the reason I stay playing old games on PSX. Non of the games nowadays can compete with the gameplays back then.
My theory is that the Gollum devs commissioned this game to take the heat as "worst game of 2023" to save the LoTR brand.
after so l9ng watching you guys , I have to say , yo7 leave me in stitches sometimes . The blatant honesty is a hint to an NPC income mentioning how she brought Creme' for you Chaddeing ( possible typo there , but it had sincere spirit ) . ALL of you make my day better than the funny com8cs in those weekend printed newspapers that should be getting dug up by an a4cheologist sometime soon . I just HAD to thank you . I L9VE IT !!! 😂
I heard someone said someone had to be money laundering this game
It would not surprise me. 😂
I'm glad games like this exist just for the simple fact that Falcon and some others can get their frustrations out and shit all over them in hilarious ways.
You need bad games to compare to other games.
Hey, what's the name of the song whose beat starts at 7:44? Pretty dope!
What's worse is that you don't feel like playing as Kong rather a random Monke
What a shame, a good King Kong game could be not only fun to play, but amazing to look at as well.
Funny how they didn't pay attention to the scale of Kong compared to the environment
No, they did. Its in skull island where EVERYTHING is massive, so kong is his normal size and trees are massive compared to ours
@@r32juanno they did not. It’s so obvious. Stop trying to defend the game.
@@sheene.c9455 youre right, its very obvious that the game is in skull island and everything they did is right
@@r32juan haha are you one of the devs or what? Lmho. There’s no sense of scale, so you mentioning “skull island” like a broken record doesn’t change anything.
My favorite part is falcon ranting for a whole 2 minutes about Kong being big or not compared to big trees or regular big trees 😂
Hey what's the name of the songs in the background?
I wish there was a whole festival like summer game fest that dedicated on theese type of "worst of the worst" games.
I don't really get that being huge feeling from looking at ''Kong''
Thanks for the rec Gameranx!!
I laughed when you talked about not knowing if he is supposed to be “big” or not😂

Indubitably
Please give us more of Falcon straight up dunking on a bad game for 15 minutes.
I would love for him to slam at least three shots of whiskey before each review on a bad game! 🤣
He won't be happy about it. He has to play the damn thing.
You have more than one friend who worked at that same studio, and I can confirm that they regularly didn’t pay people. In fact, I’m STILL trying to recover from working at that place…
"These trees look like tree trees." lol
We need a remake of " Hulk Ultimate destruction" 😢

That Hulk game was the best
@@gordyhayward1186 three games from the ps2 era changed my life ... hulk UD, Shadow of the Collosus & the Orignal MGS 1.
I can't forget the feeling after popping in the CD. That's excitement you can't replicate.
Games like Skull Island were once known as "shovelware" because they were just shoveled in to fill the newly invented CD.
I don't think I have ever heard Falcon curse during any video before 😂😂
I don't see people talking about it, but Kong's attacks are suspiciously close to Hulk's in Disney Infinity 2.0 lol
Whatever it says it’s starfeild
Good to just hear Falcon just venting like crazy. You can tell he was watching his words wisely haha
Did anyone ever play Kong? Like on the Xbox 360 back in the day where you were the tourists trying to fight back against the island.
Remember that surprise scene where you got to play as Kong, running around and smashing things, fighting dinosaurs and stuff?
Looks to me like they tried to make a game based entirely on those parts of the game.
Idk if youtube made it sound better but i didn't hear what was wrong with the narration sound quality
Tbh, this year started off great with games like Atomic Heart and Hi-Fi. The middle of the year had dead island and final fantasy. And It's ending with great games like Spiderman, Tekken and mortal kombat. This year, despite the bad games, has been great and I'm hopeful for next year.

Yes
Imagine giving a professional Game Dev an RTX 4090 and they made this 💀
10:29 this is such a drop ball because a king Kong game would be really fun like just imagine playing through a game where you start off as like a small baby Kong and you just have to survive until you get to like giant size that would be really cool
I need more videos of Falcon reviewing obviously bad games and just dunking on them for like 15 mins.
I genuinely think a semi-skilled developer with little experience can single handedly make this game in about 2 weeks with unreal engine.
This game is also available on the consoles, that requieres some spending in licensing and development hardware, which is not cheap.

Thank you, I wanted to know why this was so terrible but I didn't think it merited a google search.
Falcon I love your negative reviews so much more than the positive ones. This one really made me laugh. Would be great to see you review some classics like Earth Worm Jim or something.
Collectively I’ve enjoyed more minutes of Gollum by watching people try to play it than I have had enjoyable minutes in my entire play through of Starfield. So I was really glad when you mentioned BG3 at the top of the video as one of the best games of 2023 and not Starfield.

7:42 for a second I though you were recomending the game here 😅 glad you where just talking about running through the enemies. Yeah it sucks games of today coming out like this, what I say is... if you wanna make simpler games who take less time but still are good, just get back into doing old games for old consoles, 3d games from the ps1 era to the ps3, and 2d from nes to super nintendo, why not sell new improved compacted consoles with extras and sell them at a cheap price + easier to make games for old consoles and make them fast for a cheaper price, quantity with sales and happy gamers I say...
why did the gorilla Sprint dash backwards what the hell 😂 lvl 99 stealth build
4:05 Oh God, I got Assassin's creed unity flashbacks there.
I just noticed that some of the moves in this game look like they're copy and pasted from the crinos werewolf move set from Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood.
The most interesting thing I’ve seen/heard is you can replace the cutscenes with another video file by naming it the same name.
Based on the footage alone, not for one second did I think I was looking at a giant building sized gorilla. But just a normal sized gorilla fighting chickens. Perhaps the biggest fail of this game.
The intro scene is the same quality as the MK arcade endings.
Just looking at it it kinda reminds me of a late PS2 game 😅 👍🏻 thanks for the warning
Reminds me of that Popeye licensed game from a year or two ago. Is King Kong public domain?
I guess from what I've heard is that the publisher GameMill is scummy af and didn't give the dev team nearly enough time to hammer together anything resembling a good game (only like a year), and they were forced to use store assets for a lot of it. This is all per Yong Yea, and he's always pretty on top of video game news.
8 "Exclusive Film Grains" is a new low
5:00 this part made me spit my coffee 😂
There's actually a physical release lol
I had to search Amazon. I thought you made that graphic up.
btw when wikl you do a BYB of sonic and mario
whats with the ds1 textures at 5.30
I haven't played either, but going off the descriptions, I would give this the nod over Gollum as worst game of the year. The reason is that with Gollum, at least the devs had an idea (albeit a bad one) & actually tried to make a good game; they failed but at least they tried. With Kong, it appears there was no effort; this seems like the devs were trying to put minimal effort into making a functional game to cash in on an IP... No vision, no effort, no heart, just a simple cash grab.
Lord have mercy that opening cutscene, borrow from Disney much? (Brother Bear)
Like it sad like a actually cared about Kong game could be great like imagine the island is like shadow of mordor so it has different difficulty areas different creature's . Like imagine it not having to do with none of the movies Set on "the" island but it not being to far from any human populated island so u get all types of enemies like u could remake rampage in a big way I think a lot of us miss that game genre it just died
