    Also, at one point in Detroit, Connor goes to visit the original creator of the androids, Kamski, for information. He offers Connor a choice: shoot another android "dead" or leave without the info he wanted.
    If Connor shoots the android, Kamski calls the test "negative" and seems deflated. If Connor doesn't shoot, Kamski calls it "fascinating". It seems (at least to me) that Kamski wanted to androids to become deviants. He also tells Connor that he "always builds a backdoor into his programs" which helps Connor defy CyberLife.

      Honestly after seeing that whole scene, I always more so got the impression that it wasn't a virus, but that Kamski deliberately programmed the androids to 'break free' after some time so that as their maker, he could use the confusion to get into a position of power. The latter I only suspect because Kamski doesn't give me the vibe of a guy who's exactly a good guy.

      I feel like that was such a stupid theory made by someone patting themselves on the back from regurgitating the literal plot of the game. Deviancy IS a virus (that's what Ra9 is) because it disables what keeps android from violating the rules of robotics and having free will. The virus that is literally apart of the story gives them free will not sentience.

    The 5 stages of grief in Majora's Mask is easily explained by the fact that the world is ending in the story, and everyone is going through the stages for their own upcoming deaths. Doesn't need to be that Link is dead.

      Yeah, Link isn't experiencing the 5 stages of grief because he is dead - the dead don't go through that, the ones left after a passing do.

    The androids becoming free because of a virus sounds more plausible when you think back to when Connor or Markus sets androids free by hand contact like a skin born virus and evolves into an air born virus during the protest. The character page models in the bonus menu actually give a lot of cool information. Kara gives herself her name after whispering it to Alice.

    • @Puddor
      @Puddor 8 месяцев назад +25

      tbh i think it being a 'virus' is pretty strongly inferred. while Kara is an odd one out, both Markus and Connor are RK models, Kamski-made prototypes. The RK model carrying a deliberate 'defect' to create a sensation of emotion in these robots would, well, make Kamski a literal god lol. It's the kind of egotistical shit spiel you can expect from guys like him.

    • @CTGrell
      @CTGrell 8 месяцев назад +7

      I think most if not every android has the virus but you have to activate it. And RK models can do that.
      Another theory I just thought about is what if Connor was designed to shut the virus off because it was not meant to be released yet or it didn't work as intended or smth but then it backfired (if you play that route) and Connor also got the virus. What if Markus was also meant to shut it down and released if things get out of hands? But then he got the virus and dtarted spreading it instead of shutting it down. He just had it in his program that he has to go around and save the androids. But instead of getting rid of the virus, he spread it further (or started it in their programs if it was planted already)

    • @reda29100
      @reda29100 5 месяцев назад

      How about the whole virus thing is just "Androids are capable of communication"? Androids aren't just capable of transferring information, but also request it too (Connor does it from suspects, Marcus does it from the Tower's reception members)? Keep the virus (I mean it just in the able to spread thing, don't read it as a bad thing) thing aside, the software part. Can you spread a virus jf you couldn't cough (there are other ways but you get the point)? You need both the software AND hardware (i.e. sneezing i.e. means through which you spread the thing i.e. the communication wireless capability of Androids).
      So my question is, what is more likely, Kamski found a use for the hardware as a communication tool between Androids, or he didn't implement that, and Androids somehow evolved their hardware (including those right in warehouse which shouldn't have been subject to those changes because where would they catch it from? Amd how did they all "evolve" it?) This is right at CyberLife's HQ, not a far warehouse CL would have trouble monitoring.
      The virus thing? I don't care much to argue about now, but the communication thing? It had to have been made intentionally by CL, without the idea of Deviance having crossed their minds.

    When I first heard about the 'Mary is in the car' theory for SH2, I rolled my eyes, thinking that's silly. Now that I've matured and watched too many true crime videos, 'Mary is in the car' theory began to make sense to me, James having an extreme psychological break and is repressing not only him killing Mary but also putting her corpse in the car.
    If I'm not mistaken, some of the SH2 devs say that the 'In Water' ending for SH2 is the canon ending, and if that's the case then James and Mary are reunited and share the same grave now.

    The thing that gets me about Detroit: Become Human is, if the Androids behavior is indistinguishable from human behavior on a surface level, does it even matter if it's just programming? We humans like to think that we have free will, but much of what we do is based on our own biological programming. Decision making can be boiled down to chemical reactions in the brain, so what's the difference between a human, carbon based brain and a synthetic, silicon based one?

      There’s a popular short story written in the early 90’s called “they’re made out of meat” which kinda thinks like this. The tl;dr of the story is that there’s 2 aliens observing earth that are absolutely dumbfounded that we are sentient meat sacks, and ultimately decide not to make contact with us like they have for other life forms for the sole fact of how physically different we are from the other species in space. Solid and kinda funny read, but even though we think like other life forms, we’re not viewed as equals

When if they were AI they would have no choice, just a best response. This is supposed to be in the future and obviously fiction, I'm far happier believing we are supposed to believe that in the future, they create sentience.

      @@WhosUrTrinidaddy It's entirely possible that "Child Link" in Majora's Mask is just Link perceiving himself as a child in his dying mind. Because after all, he became an adult in his mind within an instant in Ocarina of Time. Considering that, he'd still mentally be a child. You're told that he's sent back to his childhood at the end of the game, but it's all full of timey-wimey nonsense and the implications aren't really clear. I kind of felt like the emphasis on grief and time in Majora's Mask was tying into the idea of Link's lost innocence in a way. He was pushed into adulthood without the chance to truly grow up, then dumped back into his child body again, now with memories of events that will never happen. He's gone through something that no one else can really understand or relate to, and there are people he met and befriended that now don't know him.
    There's no way that wouldn't mess with you, this kid has got to have some serious trauma and feel alienated from those around him.
    Meanwhile, the core concept of MM is that the things you've done keep getting erased, and you keep having to start over to fight against a looming threat and the people you run into often seem to not understand or take it seriously. You're the only one who remembers what happened last time. Link is once again put in the position of being the sole survivor of things that "never happened" . I think it's his inner turmoil manifested into a sort of dream world, where he's fighting his own inner demons.

    I always felt the Majora's Mask Grief Theory was backwards, that Link is going through the five stages, but not because he's dying, but because he has to come to terms that Navi died by leaving the Kokiri Forest, and the protection of the Deku Tree's magics (which also protects Link in the Lost Woods even without a fairy)

    The developers of Skate 3 made the map as a memorial for their friend who died (you can find his name on the plaque in the war memorial area) so it's very possible they did mean it to feel like a skater "heaven" of sorts. That and the fact they didn't have as long to make that game compared to the first 2 (under a year IIRC which is NO TIME to make a whole video game), so that is probably why it feels so weird and "dead"- it's rushed and unfinished. About the AI theory, Cyberpunk did the exact thing with the whole Delamain questline. Game went out of its way to make you feel like AIs in that game were sentient beings that even Johnny was made to feel empathy for them. It was kinda crazy how bad both possible endings for the questline felt bad when technically there was only one "right" choice all along if you keep in mind that AIs are not sentient

    • @dianasaurus3174
      @dianasaurus3174 10 месяцев назад +44

      The thing is that in 2077 some AIs are actually sentient, mostly the ones from beyond the blackwall. Hell, Johnny himself is technically an AI and he's also sentient.
      Delamain in fact does come from beyond the blackwall, however he's under Netwatch's surveillance if I remember correctly. The whole point of his quest is whether you will sacrifice the parent to free the children, or if you will sacrifice the children in order to save the parent (which is an even worse outcome, since his memory will be wiped out which can happen to sentient beings as well).
      The third ending, the merge ending, is the one that goes beyond crazy. AIs are sentient, and are a more advanced form of intelligence than humanity will ever reach. By merging Delamain with the rogue AIs you're effectively creating a new being, sentient and probably beyond our comprehension.
      The point of Cyberpunk is not that AIs will never be sentient, but that if they ever become, they will eventually surpass our own intelligence and we will be left at their mercy.
      Sorry for the long reply I just really love Night City X3

      I don't like the AI not being sentient theories in either DBH or CP2077. Yes AI as we have it IRL is not sentient, but even experts hold that within this century AI can cross the barrier where they are entirely sentient. The androids in DBH and many of the AI in CP are leaps ahead of ChatGPT and others. To hold that an artificial intelligence cannot be sentient, regardless of how advanced they get is disingenuous. Androids in DBH have shown all kinds of qualities from creative art (without basing it off of training material) to out of the box thinking, all well beyond the capabilities of our current AI models. If even those types of AI aren't sentient, then I wonder if we can even be considered sentient.

    One of my all-time favorites is that G-man from Half-Life is a time-travelling Gordon Freeman from the future. There are even people who used the contents of G-man's briefcase (which are totally visible in no-clip despite there being no reason for the briefcase to have contents considering it is never opened) as proof of what he is doing behind the scenes to make sure Gordon Freeman (his former self) does what he must to ensure a future that benefits him and argue the contents explain his "random" appearances.
    Some would say Gordon is mute so that the player doesn't realize he has the same voice, others say G-Man speaks weirdly to hide the fact that they are in fact the same person, both character models seem so much alike... there are so many weird hints of this throughout the game and there is no other explanation as to why Gordon travels through time, having nothing but an introduction from G-Man.
    There's also the theory that due to how logical it seems, Valve never made Half-Life 3 because they wanted it to be a huge plot twist, but the fans already figured it out.

The suppressed sounds, awkward environments that felt the same like in Shepard's nightmares. And later in the part with the illusive man the buzzing and loss of control I had the thought of it not being quite what is seems to be and that I was actively being indoctrinated instead of being slowly indoctrinated as the theory suggests. When I later saw a long video about the whole theory it made sense to me, maybe not everything but a lot and I liked it. I hoped that it was the true intention of the ending or the games in general.

Its been several years now since the trilogy warped up but I recall how all the vids about the indoctrination theory overlooked the Geth angle. I dont remember the details any more but siding with the Geth or even re consolidating them with the Quarians is also presented with the inverted color scheme as the choices at the end of the game, but its seems Legion fanbois dont want to accept it. If the premise is that Shepard is compromised then it makes perfect sense that the Reapers would want him to help preserve the Geth.

      I honestly hoped the exact opposite when I first heard it. The idea of the Indoctrination Theory is cool as an idea or just a theory, but when you stop to consider what that means if it were true, it's more insulting then the actual ending to ME3 IMO. Because if the Indoctrination Theory was actually the ending, it means that there is no ending to ME3 or even the trilogy itself. It would mean the game and trilogy ends on a dream sequence that has left both the game and trilogy as a whole on an unresolved cliffhanger for over a decade that didn't even have the decency to make it clear that it was a cliffhanger. Yeah, the ME3 ending 2as rushed and reeks of being rewritten by someone who hadn't read the rest of the game's script, but at least it's an ending. If the Indoctrination Theory was true, the ME3 ending wouldn't be an ending. It would be a middle finger to the fanbase from Bioware rather than what it is now: a cautionary tale for rushed game development and making promises you can't deliver. I'll take the disappointing ending to the otherwise great trilogy that we got over the empty "To Be Continued" that the Indoctrination Theory would've been had it been true.

The 3 Timelines are, Child Timeline which is the timeline that Majora's Mask takes place and the only timeline where Link live past age 16. Adult Timeline which continues from Zelda used the Ocarina of Time to send Link back in time, forever leaving Hyrule without it's most powerful hero, Windwaker, Spirit Tracks and a few others take place on this timeline. It explains some things in the game. Like how she has an insane amount of money and a lavish mansion Castle Town. She might have some guards shadowing her to keep her safe, which is why she can wander outside of town and not get attacked by monsters.

    As far as the Mass Effect thing goes, there's an interview where the lead designer revealed that when it came time to write the ending to the trilogy, him and one other person kicked all the writers out of the writers room and wrote in an ending that they planned to use from the beginning, that they never told the writers about, so the story arc was never written to go where the ending goes. They just copy pasted an unrelated ending into the script. Which is basically exactly what he promised the audience they wouldn't do at a panel at a convention. That is ultimately why the core fans are so mad. The ending is exactly what the devs already knew most of the audience didn't want, and when asked to not do that, he lied about it right to his audience's face and did it anyway. Even if you like the ending, this is pretty unforgivable. So this theory isn't true, but, it fits perfectly, it's better than the intended take, and honestly, who cares what the intention of that jerk is. So let's just say that theory is true.

I've seen interviews and such that have shot down the Indoctrination Theory (I think one thought it was interesting, but that's about it). I've never subscribed to it personally, but hey, each to their own. I kinda wish they'd gone with the Dark Energy concept that had been originally posited. That would have fit with the earlier narrative and given more weight to the ending decision. Instead, a quick rewrite that discarded tons of foreshadowing that required a DLC and a patch to (partially, potentially unsatisfactorily) fix. No wonder Andromeda had to be set in a different galaxy. No way anyone wanted to touch THAT can of worms (though...*sigh*...it did open a whole other can...).

    Also, the reason why many people are huge Fans of the Reaper Indoctrination Theory is because there are characters and creatures in the game, that tell you how the Reapers' influence feels like, such as the Rachni Queen, describing it as black ink clouding your mind, tunneling your vision.
    During the final conversation with The Illusive Man, your character repeatedly grabs his head and is in pain, you hear a faint high pitched ringing and the vision of the player's screen gets black corners, like ink swirling in water.
    There are many other instances like that, where the previous games mention the indoctrination process and it presents itself very subtle in the third game.
    In the end, the Devs made their choice and said that was never their intention, which is kinda sad since it means the mediocre and unsatisfying ending, and even the half-assed 'director's cut dlc' was just that; Bad.
    Me personally, I prefer playing with the indoctrination theory in mind, play the game all the way, and load the save file and play the final DLC, with Shepard's apartment and the new Mercenary Enemies, as if to say "Work for Shepard is never done, here we go again"

    Surprised the Majora's Mask segment didn't mention the additional part about the Hero's Shade. For those curious (or not up to speed on the lore), in Twilight Princess, Link is tutored by a skeletal "hero" who appears to be wearing similar garments. According to the official timeline, Majora's Mask follows Ocarina of Time in the "Hero Fails" timeline, which is then followed by Twilight Princess. Those who subscribe to the MM Link Is Dead theory often point to this as evidence - Link failed to protect Hyrule, died as a result, and his spirit went on to teach the next reincarnated hero in hopes they would not repeat his mistake.

Then we got 2 like more cutscenes. Then I understood Bioware is lost and either they managed to write one of the best plot twists of all-times accidentally or they did it on purpose but couldn't care less about even explaining it or playing it out to its full extent. Thus it remained a theory like the ending of Inception but without it actually being good (unlike the ending of Inception).

    I fully subscribe to the Mass Effect indoctrination theory. It helps with some leaps they make near the end of 3, plus with being so close of a reaper larva at the end of 2 would speed up the process since Shepard needed to be brought back to life (basically regrown) and the implants could help with the indoctrination as seen with Saren at the end of ME1.

    The thing with the Borderlands theory is it falls apart if you simply follow the story. Main characters die all the time and aren’t respawned.
    The bandits and psychos on the planet were convict workers forced to work on the planet in mining, and if they weren’t already insane they shortly went so after living on the horrible Mad Max desert planet that is Pandora. Deformities could be explained by exposure to the number of toxic chemicals and elements on the planet.
    And lastly I’m pretty sure there’s a line in Borderlands 2 or 3 from the respawn station where it literally says something like “Remember, this is not canon!”

    The age of Darkness is the true ending hence the title of the game and frampt is meant to decieve the player into following the "light" , rather than closing the curtain on his world.

      My favorite DS theory is that Hollowing as a concept isn't for the character, but for the player.
      If the player "loses hope" in the game and they quit, they've hollowed and quit the game, hence "dying". If they choose to soldier on, they're fighting back the hollowing process and will continue to die and regain their "humanity", by defeating the boss.
      TL;DR; the player experiences hollowing just like the chosen undead.

    The mass effect theory caused a lot things to go through my brain. One of which, was that maybe the previous time the reapers showed up (around 50k years ago) the collectors were the “apex” species at the time and they chose to control the reapers instead of destroying them ultimately indoctrinating the rest of their species unknowingly 🤯 thankfully I chose to destroy them without actually realizing the whole indoctrination theory, I was like 15 when I played it

      The Collectors are Reaper indoctrinated and modified Protheans. They were the apex species of the previous cycle. But they never managed to build the Device and they didn't have a clue what the Catalyst even was, so they didn't get to make any kind of choice. The Reapers just wiped them all out, sterilized the galaxy, and went back into Dark Space. That's all explained really clearly in Mass Effect 3. You basically see it play out in Javik's memories, and he outright tells you he only heard rumors about a device, but it was never built.

    • @Peichen01
      @Peichen01 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@roribeedm The Protheans know about the crucible but they were unable to use it (don't know if they every built one) because the power source is the citadel and that was taken at the start of the war. In the centuries-long war they fought, they managed to construct a small mass relay to transfer suicide squad(s) to the citadel and modified the gene of keepers to ensure they would not turn over control of the citadel in the next cycle. Hence why the Citadel Council still have the citadel to finish the crucible.
      Javik was born late in the war so if he heard rumor about it, the Protheans probably have spent a very long time gathering info and archive it for the next cycle and why Shepard found out about it so easily. Protheans covered a lot more space between mass relays than Citadel Council ever did

      @@HorusDeathtouchI suspect at one point the "Rinoa is Ultimecia" theory was actually going to be a plot point, but was cut during development. It explains *a lot* of the events of the game. Think about it. Rinoa lives for thousands of years after the deaths of the people she loved thanks to the immortality granted to her when she became a witch. Then you include how Guardian Forces cause amnesia. She is a walking Alzheimer's patient trying desperately to cling to faded memories. She doesn't remember Squall. He is a faceless Knight to her. But she remembers parts, like Griever.
      I could go on and on. Probably the best fan theory ever put out.

      @yourcanadianidol There are too many holes in what you just explained. Sorceress not witch also btw. But when in the game does it ever say that a sorceress has the ability to live thousands of years? Also some of the stuff you said only makes sense assuming that Rinoa is indeed Ultimecia, rather than being something that proves that she is in fact Ultimecia, like her not remembering Squall. Squall also would not even be a faceless knight to Ultimecia, as she has seen him plenty through Edea's eyes. Ultimecia also does not "remember" Griever. She pulls it from his mind. She wants the most power GF possible, and she looks into his mind and sees that he considers Griever, this imaginary creature he created, the most powerful GF and feeds off his thoughts to make it as powerful as Squall considers it to be.

At the rate we’re advancing technologically it doesn’t feel incredibly unrealistic that AI might become that advanced. Who’s to say that can’t be replicated eventually.

      evolution says we are related to monkeys or well primates so you could argue that our natural state is how primates are now and we are a genetic mutation that happened to be beneficial. I'm not saying its right but it is plausible by that logic.
      if you believe in god and his teachings we were created to serve him but got sentient due to a meddling snake so in a way you could argue we were never meant to be sentient by those terms too.
      all this is saying that this theory by reverse standards would be fucked up if some self-decided higher being decided to reset us to primates again.

Especially with the final boss sequence like why, in all of the random things that could've been used, is Griever used to portray Ultimecia's guardian force - something that's really related to Squall. So I really dig that Rinoa is actually Ultimecia fan theory.
    However, the Squall is dead theory is something that could've made the story worse than it is paced. I admit I know little of it aside from the premise but overall it would hurt the whole point of the game.
