Yes, that's kind of a hot take from my perspective. Dennis has definitely earned this throughout the career, while Franz' NT career has been too short to tell it. But I really think Franz has all the tools necessary to take over this team soon and his size makes him tougher to guard.

Isaac Bonga needs to be mentioned as well! He replaced Franz so well in the games vs. Australia and Finland it is pureluxury to have a guy like him on the bench. And don't underestimate our other bench players like Thiemann, Hollatz & Mo Wagner. I think we could make it straight to the finals if everything goes well. 🙂

In Germany they already said before the tournament even started that this is the best national team they've ever had. Its just a really well balanced team with good size and depth at every position. It also helps that most of their players have some experience in FIBA basketball. Some of them still play in Europe, others like Theis or even Schröder played FIBA ball in their early days. You can see this helps if you look f.e. at how Luka just toys with everyone at FIBA basketball... Overall pretty excited about how for they can go... also Olympics are coming up next year. If they can stay healthy and hold the team together this will be fun
I have them for a medal run for weeks now. They played a solid preparation and lost to the US in the final minutes at a showcase where the US boys had a day rest while germany played back to back. These dudes are real and a real team, just like the US is. If they get it done as a team they can go at least to the semis, if things go right they have a shot even at the gold medal.

100% agree. Germany caught my radar when they gave my country's team, USA, lots of trouble in the friendlies. That said to me that they aren't an opponent to sleep on. Great mix of young talent and veteran experience for this team. That made them my dark horse contenders for this tournament over, funny enough, Australia. I feel like Spain are poised to be the favorites with the USA just behind due to lack of veteran presence with France having been bounced out already. The Serbian team looks strong, too, but let's see how they look when they face better competition. This is a really fun tournament, and I'm glad the US squad having two players from my hometown Lakers has made me follow it. AR15 is continuing to shine while Anthony Edwards is having his coming out party as a true #1 team option star. Several other young players for the US look great, as well, but I don't want to take away from this video too much. I hope the stars align for Germany to make some noise, as they are exciting to watch. Thanks for another great video. Thanks for your comment. I doubt Spain has enough talent to make so much noise last year, but every time we underestimate them, they show us why talents doesn't always matter the most. They have excellent coaching staff, perfect game plans & players execute it to the fullest. But without Rubio or Lorenzo Brown this year, they lack ball handling creation a lot. We shall see.
Schröder on the national team is the perfect leader. Dude scores, assists, etc. He gets guarded by the best defender each time. Additionally they got Mo and Bonga, both playing really well and constant. I'm hoping for Spain because they're missing their best guy. Canada will be the toughest match up.
I thought Germany was vastly underrated by the start. I thought they were clearly a top 4 team going into this even with the US being 1 and then Germany, Austrailia, and Canada being 2-4 in any given order. Have no idea why people were so high on Spain & France, I see Slovenia with Luka as more of that wild-card #5 team.
France yeah... probably due to their slithering into the final last year without anyone understanding how they even got there. Spain is still better than Slovenia though, and Germany will have to proove that they can beat Spain over 4 quarters, not just 3 and a half. This is still the teams biggest flaw, they often struggle to close out games vs tough opposition.

being from germamy, i knew the team before those games. they kept their core from last years euro together and added moe wagner and bonga to it. theis and franz were not healthy then and they managed to get bronze. plus, our coach is awesome! before the wc, they almost beat the us .... we can at least win a medal again. mayber, we can reach the final. everything is possible.
