Actually, you can turn off the rubberband AI, but ironically, it can actually make the game harder. Granted, like in that video, you could go to Toad’s Turnpike and the AI would be completely fucked thanks to collision physics that it can no longer control, but in other stages, it becomes ten times harder. Good luck getting back up to first place after one minor slip… TL;DR - Rubberband AI helps the player more than it hinders.
There’s also a weird glitch I call the lead competitor glitch. As you know in this game, there will always be two characters that will stick to you like glue. One of the two is your main competitor that will more than likely get first place if you fall too far behind as that racer is programmed to go faster then all of the other races including the other one that sticks to you. Well if the leader of the two racers glitches out like for example if you hit him with that lightening boltlike you did on the Royal Raceway and they get stuck in limbo, the game oddly tries to replace that racer with all of the characters racing. Which means every character on the track now becomes the lead racer competing against you in that circuit. This means that all racers are even in speed and sticks to you like glue now for the whole duration of that particular race track. It makes for some really fun chaotic races but it’s a super weird glitch.
Not sure I've encountered that glitch. I've actually encountered an opposing glitch, where all the opponents become slow as molasses. More than once I've found myself lapping everyone at Kalimari Desert.
@@katt-the-pig yeah, next time you play around with it, try knocking him into oblivion. It’s hard to do though. You could try to do it like you did in the video with the lightening bolt but keep going so the game won’t pick them up or when the lead competitor is driving towards a wall or cliff hit them with a red shell and watch them fall off the cliff or hit the wall and keep going. That will also weirdly trigger the glitch as Lakaitu won’t pick them up until you return the area. That will cause all racers to take its place while the racer is not on the map. Don’t ask me how I found this out. Lol Just lots of playtime with it.
An easy way to get this glitch to happen is on Kalamari Desert is to fly past the main lead racer and get them off screen while they are on any set of train tracks. I suggest on the first lap wait for everyone to just sit there waiting for the train to pass by and do it as they start to accelerate. That bugs them out and they go slow for some reason _I suggest using Toad for this because if you don't have a mushroom on hand, spamming the accelerate button will cause him to speed up at a very alarming rate_
Sometimes I wonder if MK64 was even completely finished. The camera during the slope on rainbow road does not work and the AI’s cheating is straight up unfair. I’m wondering why they programmed it like that. Also at 7:34 Bowser and Luigi are breakdancing lol
I always found Yoshi to be quite a fearsome competitor. If you screw up and he gets ahead of you in first...sometimes he gets way ahead making him quite difficult to catch
I found that Peach was much worse as she often drives in a weird section of the road that I can barely get her to slip on a banana. And her high acceleration makes red shells almost negligible
This makes so many of us feel better knowing we weren't fucking crazy about this stupid AI. Don't get me started with how much of a cheat the AI was in Pokemon Stadium! stats mattered jack in that game…
You cheated not only the game, but yourself. You didn't grow. You didn't improve. You took a shortcut and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained. It's sad that you don't know the difference.
It is probably my favorite Mario Kart to goof off in. Driving backwards, or grabbing a blue shell and holding it behind me to repeatedly KO said CPU-players.
Right. Ds has cpu who have a fetish to push lightweights off the track and the only lightweight is you could this bullcrap get any worse At least double dash rubberbanding cpu ain’t 11 satins
This is why me, and most of my friends, generally preferred Diddy Kong Racing over MK64. The AI doesn't cheat there and there's no rubber banding crap, you could even lap the racers if you were good enough. Heck the only means by which the other racers can catch up to you is if you're doing a miserable job keeping your position.
I always wondered what the CPU players were doing off cam since technically they wouldn’t be able to just teleport. Would be cool to have the option to see a CPU from the I perspective and see how fast they speed up lol
Definitely you can see it when the race is over, if you stay in the score table you will see the camera following CPU one by one, and from 7 CPU's, there's specifically one that goes faster than the other ones, eventually outlapping them several times. And you, being the slowest of them all, even if you finished first place, eventually you will become the last as everyone is passing you like nothing.
The superstar while under the effect of lightning thing can be done but it's a frame perfect trick, you gotta activate the star at the same time you get shocked. However, your point about the cpu stands as the AI can activate its star way after being hit.
@Erika Fuzzbottom: If the cpu goes in the off road, they will warp into the track, however this does not happen in the Japanese version, which I did not know at that time untill I can officially play the Japanese version on the Nintendo switch, so if a cpu in the Japanese get put off road, it will drive off road and aim to go back on the road, they will only lakitu warp if they hit a tree in the off road.
Playing the game again really broke the illusion for me when I realized how brutal the ai for this game really is. If you were racing 150, your chances for catching back up to first we’re slim and even then you had to defend from second and third who come barreling at you the whole race when you’re in first. Still, I’d prefer closer races than the item hell that exists with Wii
It's been a long time since I played Mario Kart Wii, so I can't remember what that was like. And usually when I played, it was with younger family members, so I didn't often play on higher difficulties, anyway.
wii's grand prix mode is full of hax (ie, luck so bad that it seems rigged) but it doesnt seem to be the same in VS mode, even if you turn the difficulty all the way up in grand prix mode, vehicles with low accel are practically suicide unless everything goes perfectly since the ai has a pseudo-aimbot almost and you're just a sitting duck if you're doing a standstill mini turbo, making it even easier to be hit, so naturally to get stars on all the mirror cups i had to resort to high accel vehicles
Dman Yeah, that was the added difficulty of Wii. The pure luck of doing well enough to get the star ratings for the cup could easily turn on you in one race where your pushed off course, hit with objects above an open pit, and of course the dreaded shells capable of making you drop places really close quick. At least with 64 it felt more like you had to use real racing strategies by hoping your top opponents finish in lower positions if you placed below second and first due to the BS no rendering acceleration rule
I know a lot about this just from watching other people play the game. AI cheat tremendously in this game. You demonstrated how they can pull items out of thin air, and how the stun animation doesn’t apply when they’re off-screen. In fact, AI not only drive much smoother but they also go faster off screen, and they’re immune to stage obstacles off screen too. They still get hit with off screen items, but most of them just temporarily stop them. Off screen bananas actually are the Achilles’ heel to AI, as it makes them do a wild spin in circles (like donuts) rather than continuing forward while their kart rotates. Oh yeah, lightning is useless against the AI too. Not only can they still use boos, mushrooms, and stars (which players can’t do when they’re small), but they aren’t slowed down at all. Not to mention that running into each other will immediately make them big again. I didn’t actually know that they’re instantly put back on the track if they fall off off screen, but even when they’re on screen, they instantly get picked up from the out of bounds area, rather than waiting for Lakitu to drop down then pick human players up. There are certain areas of each course where AI can’t cheat like this, but these areas are pretty scattered.
I would always play as Toad to have one less poison mushroom on the track so, Princess Peach was always my rival. Even then, sometimes the CPUs would jump over the poison mushrooms.
Erika Fuzzbottom: In mario kart 64 Cpu does not used item box to get item, I used a hack when I had my N64 to make player 1 be Cpu control, and when mario as a cpu used lightning, it was not in the player item box, and they never used the player item box item, the other thing that I notice the cpu his always in drafting speed, if you force the cpu to used a player item, like a mushroom, when they are not suppose to have one, you heard the cpu let go of the gas, they are just program to finish at a certain time no matter what. Also it his possible to used a power stars while being shrunk, you have to time it correctly, it his easier to do it yourself with another player since you know when the other player will used lightning so you will be ready for it, but with A.I. you have to be lucky since you have no idea when they will used it.
I still play this game, 28 years later. It's my favourite. Guess i'm a sick bastard that loves to getting taken advantage of by unfair and loathsome competition.
Something interesting is that if a green shell hit them even while off-screen, they will actually do the complete stun animation. Maybe the A.I cheating is actually the game response for detecting the A.I is "stuck" in that moment when its speed goes to 0, and tries to solve it by putting them back in the track quickly, and of course it does that only when they are off-screen, to not being too obvious. But that doesn't explain why they doesn't skip the rolling when passing by a banana, maybe because it's unskippable, I don't know.
The red shell and fake item box hit animation typically ends when they hit the floor, the ai cheating always keeps them on the track planted firmly so they don't get to use that animation if only for a brief second. Green shell hit animation is totally different and does not care what position the character is in, in the air or on the ground. Green shell animation I feel like has a mandatory duration before you're free lol so the ai cannot escape either
I think the AI in Mario Kart Wii kind of tends to cheat, do you see how frequently they get blue shells? I don't get that many blue shells when I play.
I have noticed that the AI seems to get certain items more often than human players in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. A lot of Boos and lightning bolts, to make sure you're not racing with an item shielding your butt the whole race.
Old Mario karts were busted in term of item balancing because there weren't that many. Until like Double Dash or DS you could get stars in 2nd place. Even Mario Kart Wii you get blue shells in 4th place.
I hated this, i could drive perfectly and set a record breaking time but somehow yoshi who i redshelled in lap 1 is right behind me again at the end.. the cpu cheating was insane in mk64
I think Mario Kart 7's AI also cheats. Though some stuff I might explain might sound too absurd. Incident 1: I am playing random 8 races on CTGP-7 against easy CPU, I throw a red shell at the CPU ahead of me, and guess what? THEY DON'T GET STUNNED.
One time I was playing mk 64 on royal raceway Mario took a shortcut! And what’s more ridiculous is that all the cpus got a sudden speed boost and I was in last!! NINTENDO FIX THIS!!!
The ai will always try to keep up but stay behind the main rival for that cup. Since Mario was the main rival, the ai sped up to catch up to him lol. Sometimes if the ai like slides off a cliff around the sharp right turn towards the beginning of the race, they'll just be placed up on the ramp much farther in the track. Honestly I'm not sure why that is, it could be because the game thought since they were that close to the ramp they were originally up there. Had Bowser do that on the final lap a few times...
No no no the worst cheating they'll do is on royal raceway when they teleport from the beginning of the track up to the ramp after sliding off a cliff xD
1 thing you for got to mention is if a Al that is all ways in 3rd 4th or 5th or below get in 1st place instead of the original 2 Al that all ways challenge you that Al will get extreme speed once that Al is off your screen and is impossible to catch up the only way to stop that is you have to let your original Al that all ways challenge you to get off screen and catch up to that Al and the speed will go back to normal try it let the AI's that is all way below 4th or 5th get in front and off screen and the 2 Al that challenge you get behind you see how stupid fast they go only on 150cc
As long as it still affects their race in the same way and they have to re-accelerate after, I don't see why it's a problem. Well at least for the shells. For the flattening it did seem to have not had the same effect, which is kinda dumb.
The issue is that they're supposed to tumble around for a couple seconds before being allowed to accelerate. Without the tumbling, your red and blue shells aren't as helpful as they should be.
Well I am the younger generation who played Mario cart 7 and such, while I never noticed to much there tho, I have noticed strang things in martio party superstars where they just find the hidden blocks more often and gets even at the most random moments the best items. The hiden blocks are always cauggt when they have a custom dice, and they choose a ra dom distance that also always is the exact amount of steps needed for them. And there is a lot more
Have you heard of smartbouncing? I’m not sure if you said it in the vid cuz I didn’t watch it fully but what evs cause I’m in a say it. Been stuck with this Mario kart fir too long!!!! And finally playing the Wii one and 8 and I mostly pick Mario.
Still my favorite Mario Kart but the primary and secondary rival mechanic is so annoying:((
7:06 if you dont pay attention and continue play. that cpu player is going to be AFK before next lap
This bug applies to all other racers if the main rival manages to get that far behind
They accelerate faster when off screen
Not caught. But Kaurght.
I enjoyed this video
Well I am the younger generation who played Mario cart 7 and such, while I never noticed to much there tho, I have noticed strang things in martio party superstars where they just find the hidden blocks more often and gets even at the most random moments the best items.
The hiden blocks are always cauggt when they have a custom dice, and they choose a ra dom distance that also always is the exact amount of steps needed for them.
And there is a lot more
Yes, in the games code, on master mode they will look for hidden blocks, and roll the exact number needed, even if the star is in reach
This game as a whole is so rigged.
7:25 Your cheating was exposed!
Its even worse in super Mario kart for the snes
Have you heard of smartbouncing? I’m not sure if you said it in the vid cuz I didn’t watch it fully but what evs cause I’m in a say it. I remember one time in mk wii toad threw a greenshell onto the wall and whaddya know, the shell hit me. I’m guessing literally no one would be able to know if they would be able to hit that shell or not. Like what the frick? That makes me mad ALOT. Why can’t bots be like a real player? I know I know, if they didn’t have it they would probably be way to behind but still, why?!
Is that an actual thing? I've hit myself with my own green shell on occasion, so I wonder if Toad got lucky.
@@katt-the-pig well, yeah maybe toad got lucky. i just got hit by cpus with CRAZY bounces. here's a video explaining it, although its about Mario kart 8. but it tells you about it. it might,ve happened or no. i just thought that happened though :) ruclips.net/video/rlNK8tFWAcs/видео.html
Mario logic vs minecraft fire in water never burn in mc though
It's just in case your items accidentally try to help you take down others.
(Edit: This is irony)
That is the main reasons why items are in the game...
Why do you think items exist in Mario Kart?
is there a “Make the CPUs not cheat” patch out yet
If you have a GameShark or play on an emulator yes. I only have access to an N64 with a GameShark, so I don't know much about emulators
Yeah and surprisingly thw game becomes a lot harder. Any mistakes youre getting 8th.
still an underrated game
It is still a fun game, yeah.
Is there a mod for this
From MK 2 to this! I am thoroughly disgusted right now!
Mortal Kombat 2?
@@katt-the-pig Binge watching cheating AI vids. MK 2 is usually at the top of the list.
Pretty sure mario may have had a nanner or something for the red shell. You just so blind that you couldn't see it?
His icon jumped and he stalled and yelled in pain, though. My shell definitely hit him.
you cant instult someone when using the term NANNER bro
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Next time use Peach, or Bowser, not crappy Yoshi! LOL! Other than that, this was a very good video, exposing those glitches and cheats!
Nah use yoshi
@@LunarBloodRose27 The best characters are Peach and Bowser, maybe Mario/Luigi. The rest are trash. I guess Yoshi is the same as Peach but he is nothing special.
None of them are special at all other than their ability to bash others out of their way. Bowser is beefy, but with low acceleration. Toad is very light, but has this weird thing where you spam the acceleration button and he's at top speed in less than a second
@@LunarBloodRose27 The three lightweights (Yoshi, Peach and Toad) all have the fast acceleration tech. Actually Bowser has that as well so his bad acceleration is irrelevant if you know to tap A, lol
@@judenihalI know Luigi is good got all Gold with him
Aiee! Aiee! Aiee! Aiee! Ha Ha Ha.
great video what total camer bs
