My Janspeed Mini Cooper-S

- This is the highlights of my Janspeed Mini Cooper S car that was used in the famous enthusiast video Janspeed DIY Mini, produced by my company. The car was stripped down to the last nut and bolt. It was designed by their race team along with the legendary David Vizard and then built by Janspeed's race engine builders. Even the body was rebuilt from scratch! The car also featured in a magazine article as one of the fastest ever road Minis! It's a blindingly quick car and will easily embarrass many hot hatches of today. See the details on its website.
Pełny profesjonalizm wykonania po takich zabiegach Mini nabiera charakteru prawdziwego sportowca.
Any one remember RIPSPEED AT TOTTENHAM BOY RACERS DREAM COME TRUE THAT SHOP MISS IT SO MUCH LOVED IT AND THEY WAS SO HELPFUL,!!
Like a Swiss Watch .... Awesome .
Brilliant!!!
The full version of the Janspeed DIY Mini video is now up, hope you enjoy it. Part 1 along with the rest on my pages. Regards
Great vedio.
Hi, are you related to Janos Ódor ?
How much did all that cost???
A fecking lot and even more now lol
The master of "a series" engines Dave vizard read his book twice. I built an engine to his spec using an osseli engineerd head, webber 45 twin choke carbs, with jan speed linkage jan speed exhaust, mini sport straight cut gearbox ect ect dyno results came to 99 b h p at the wheels. I sold the car 14 years ago and have been crying ever since the best little rip arse car i ever had, i even named it "HELL" cause i was a little devil behind the wheel, every road was a race track.....long live the mini.
Same here, I had a 1400 on a 45 DCOE. Needed a better head but I was 20 and had little cash! Great times. On Spax with S discs, there are so many mods for minis. Always wanted a Arden 8 port or the 16v head. Not sure about 13*7 wheels though... I reckon minis look better on 10s.
I did all this too. Including those roller rockers and Isky springs. Oselli Engineering head, 1380cc, was awesome. Sold it when I got married - what a mistake! Now I have a Caterham Seven with 150bhp Zetec and 40DCOEs. So mid-life crisis cured :-)
In 1966 I used to own a 848cc 1960 mini and about 1973 a 998cc 1972 mini. Brilliant little cars, the early minis had sliding windows with a chrome button type opener, changed to plastic later on and then of course wind up windows. I remember losing all drive on the early min, Crown Wheel retaining nut came loose as I remember, sorry I am starting to reminisce here. Great Video many thanks.
Man, I would LOVE to have one of those little cars. Great work!

I read Vizard's book cover to cover when I was 15. I had 5 minis growing up but never had the money to do anything with them. The book was amazing though. Taught me all about how cars and engines work.
Same here but when I started work I built an MG 1275 engine with a nine bolt head using the book(the blue book) as a guide putting it in a 1969 850 shell.I had minilites and cooper S front discs and a brake servo off a Austin 1300 It had a straight through 3 inch exhaust for a while but was too noisy so I fitted a marina back box which was still straight through but with baffles.
I loved that car,me and the G/F went everywhere in it,then I totalled it on the way back from the RAC rally Dalton Woods stage and bought a cortina Mk4 2.0s where you could hear yourself think and not break your spine going to the Yorkshire Dales.
Andrew Simpson.....Vizard was like a Mini "God" and his books were excellent. I still have both he published and the first one is covered in greasy thumb prints on most pages!
Wizard show what. NIcely done english engineering, very cool. 13:48 cutting it close old chap.
those days the 1275 gt could be driven up to 105 mph ! pretty damn fast.
How nice it would be to buy a mk3 saloon and find it just happens to have a cooper S engine!
SwanSongRecords......during my Mini mad years when i was not only building and running various Mini from Mk 1's to Cooper S, i was also buying and selling any Mini parts i could get my hands on. I went to collect a scrap Mini....purely as it had a 1300 engine in that i could make use of. The guy selling said, "you may as well do me a favour and cart these doors off as well as they are no use to me". I didn't hesitate. They were a pair of original Cooper S in excellent condition and even complete with door cards! As 'parts'....a pretty rare find!
Classic mini classic
Valuable yes but disappointing by today's standards... They only had 76bhp & 0 - 60 took over 10 seconds
The famous Monte Carlo Rally Paddy Hopkirk one was much more trick.. having fuel injection for a start.
Great engineers and probably the most experienced Mini tuners ever, their Minis turned the racing world on its head in the days!
Fuck me ! That engine is like a finely tuned Swiss watch ! Love it, great video :) Makes my mini look like an old tractor in comparison !
a mans video ,,, just needs a mug of tea and a digestive on the bench and it would be perfect
I detect a Binky reference
Make the noise!
Not related but know Jan well since the early 70's and was very good friends with his son Kieth RIP.
Wow. Its a very long time since I worked there and seeing inside views on this video brings back plenty of memories. Sometimes Keiths RS500 went down the road on slicks and trade plates during early morning testing. I doubt any original staff are still about. Last I heard Mark Vaughan bought the company after it went bust in early 2000's. Hope he is still successfully owning it, he understood finance. Thanks for posting
This what a PROPER Mini Cooper S should be like, not these new so called ( badge engineered ) Mini Coopers are in my opinion an insult to the original proper Mini,s, more than like John Cooper had NOTHING what so ever to do with them, the new cars simply are cashing in on the name! I would NOT have a new Cooper even if you gave it too me!
Great vid & porn music at the end, doesn't get much better than that.
I live near to Salisbury, recognise the roads at the start of the video, drive them on way to work every day! Janspeed workshops still the little unit it always was.
Meraviglioso !! Non credo che adesso ci sia un' azienda che possa lavorare in questo modo . Con i costi attuali ....
Wished I still had mine!!!
Loved the guy " adjusting!" The can with a big hammer! ,runs straight now.
Fascinating and brain frying in equal measures sir 8-)
Very imformative vid - thanks for posting
Thanks for this video! Was great.
10.40 spraying lung protector! heady days!
Love the attention to detail. Watched the first three and forgot to subscribe. Found the channel again today by accident and watched them all up to the latest one. Now subscribed !!!
this thing is still going strong! mot till october 2021 and only 6k on the clock!
The Cooper is so small it almost has a unfair advantage in racing
Don’t you love the old days? I once went to buy a Cooper S, it was nice, but had a petrol tank missing...
Nice film, thanks!. I worked at Ripspeed in the early 1980,s, I still remember the smell of new Janspeed exhausts when we unloaded deliveries.
I would die for this mini
love this!!!
Legendary little car"s"
When will this be seen in the DEWS Speed Championship which is Janspeed Supported ??
You mean this isn't the full one? It's inspired me to do the best for my Mini. I'm getting my '71 rebuilt with the best parts possible.
Can you help me, where is the Janspeed shop address & phone number, including website too, thanks.
Their website and contact details are at janspeed.com
My Mini life time favorite car.
Love it, You need to put the full video up; I'm desperate.
I've been searching the internet for a copy of the original VHS for ages.
Thanks for the effort. Great video
Wow the flowing on those heads !

That mini is still going
Nostalgia at its best..
Superb video! Thanks for posting!
Where is it now....2020ad..........
I’m now the owner. Second owner and owned it since 2013. Based in Fife. Car still goes great and is still MOT’d every year. Looks the same now as it did then.
cool
Still taxed and MOT'd good to see...
Is Janspeed still going? My Cooper S Sport 5 has a Janspeed head and exhaust I believe?
Janspeed are still very active and do work for some of the biggest names in the automotive industry. You can find them at janspeed.com/
Great video! Thanks for sharing it.
Hi Janspeed , I would like to ask to see if you can build me a Austin mini bole front van with the engine as a 1275cc fast road race cooper sport. With a standard fast road race gearbox and standard drop gears. also can you fit the adjustable front and back camber kit. But build the hole car with sound proofing and a sound proof bulk head and just the standard single dial in the middle with the sound proofing running behind it. And can you paint the van and finished in grey silver lacer Thanks Russ.
Hi Russ
Please contact Mark Vaughan (MD of Janspeed) to discuss your requirements. His email is mark.vaughan@janspeed.com He knows about your request.
