      Sure, but it's ineffective against the hammy acting, the nonsense story and the awful script, which all butt in during the most boring-looking parts.

      Agreed, and this movie was great. My bro is always trying to tell me how bad it was because of the plot holes, but I'm like "Holy shit did you not see the robots fighting the Kaiju though?" The reason this movie is, like, in my top 20 is because of the amount of screen time you get just watching epic fights.

    0:27 actually they build the robots because of the Kaiju blood. First they killed them with nukes,... and the blood was toxic and killed literally everything in the ocean and rivers and at land. To prevent that, they used the robots to fight them by punching, to not cause this much blood. The canons and the sword they had was also just as last option, if they really can’t fight they Kaiju with the fists anymore.

    • @maggoteer948

      I mean, you could just use extremely powerful *concussive* projectiles.

    • @sharkquark6252
      @sharkquark6252 4 года назад +113

      Aced Ace yeah, that’s what they do in some way. Striker Eureka has rockets in the chest that can be fired and are made for extreme strong hits and less explosion effect. It killed an Kaiju with some of them instantly. The problem is, that these rockets are this big that you would need a very strong plane to transport them and to hit with them the Kaiju very accurate if they are dropped by a plane is nearly impossible. Also you would need several planes to drop them because it need to be a lot rockets of them to kill one Kaiju. And if they don’t hit with the rockets dropped by plane it’s over. So a Jäger transporting this rockets and still having the fight ability with strong punches and having swords and plasma canons as last Option fight is way better against these Kaijus.

    The worst part about all these Pacific Rim plothole videos is most of their points are valid, but are only plotholes because they ripped out one very important piece of information from the movie.
    Kaiju blood is fucking horrid. You spill it, almost all life around it will die. During the first attack, using conventional weapons were supposed to have broke the skin eventually and created a really bad epidemic. The whole point of the Jaegers was blunt trauma. The sword was there only as an absolute last resort. You bring out the sword, you kill every human around you.

    • @Forgefaerie
      @Forgefaerie 9 лет назад +206

      not only that but they actualy DID use nukes in the beginning. between them and the nukes, if humanity continued using nukes, soon there would be no livable areas left, thanks to nuclear winter. they had to figure out the alternative and sure maybe giant robots wasn't the most logical of the alternatives, but this is not a "srs" science fiction movie either.

      But thats why the "Power Vacum Team" was there, to clean the mess as soon as the fight ended. All they really had to do was just get an insolated area for them to kill the monster with their blades. And dont tell me it would take to long cause they always calculated the time the Kaijus would apear.

    I always wondered how they lost any Jaegers if they have never had more than one Kaiju emerge at a time, until the end of the movie. Have all the Jaegers ready at all times and it’s never a problem.

    • @chad7492
      @chad7492 2 года назад +34

      i think it’s because when a jaeger kills a kaiju the next kaiju is genetically adapted and upgraded to destroy the jaeger which defeated the last one. Like Otachi and Leatherback spitting acid and using the electromagnetic attack. It’s also seen when the Kaiju breaks through the massive coastal wall, i think it was specifically designed to break through the wall probably because the previous kaiju couldn’t. That’s why they kept building the walls until they saw on tv that a kaiju broke through.

      The Jaegers weren't all in the same base/Shatterdome but were all across the Pacific. Hong Kong, Nagasaki, Tokyo, Sydney, Anchorage, Los Angeles, Panama City and Lima. There were times when more than one Jaeger attacked a kaiju such as when Horizon Brave, Gipsy Danger and Striker Eureka or Lucky Seven fought MN-19 in Manila.

    The reason why the sword wasn't used from the start, based on my interpretation, was that the pilots (Mako and Raleigh) didn't want to reveal all of their weapons and techniques unless absolutely necessary. Don't forget, the Kaiju can eventually adapt themselves to counter the Jaegers (eg. the EMP attack used by Leatherback to counter Striker Eureka's missiles).

    • @albelnoxroxursox

    There's one thing that bugged me during the whole movie. Why the hell do people still live in cities near the Pacific coast, when big-ass monsters come from said ocean? Every sane being would have moved far away from any sea, and the Jaegers would have an easier job, since they would be given way more time.
    But I guess living and LA or Tokyo has sufficient perks to make you forget about giant monsters fights that have a good chance of killing you instantly. Makes sense.

    About the nuke part, the governments did use nukes to kill the first Kaiju that appeared from the breach. The fallout was massive though as both the nuke and the Kaiju itself produced elements which were deadly to humans and all surrounding life. The next few kaiju were taken out with nukes too. Again this took a toll as the fallout made it a pyrrhic victory and they came to the conclusion that they couldn't just keep nuking them. This is all explained in the tie in comics.

      Dropping a nuclear bomb in the middle of a large city would be an absolute last resort, as this would easily cause as much if not more damage than a giant, rampaging monster. Plus the contamination from the fallout would be catastrophic and unpredictable. In the prequel comic, it is explained that the first four kaiju to attack were, in fact, destroyed with nuclear weapons. The fourth kaiju, "Scissure", which attacked Sydney, apparently took several days to lure it out to the sea where it could be safely nuked without decimating and contaminating all of Sydney along with it. It is precisely for this reason that the Jaeger program was developed because, if humanity had to continue to drop nukes every time a kaiju showed up, that would wipe the human race out all on its own. Guillermo del Toro has stated that he does not intend Pacific Rim to be a "realistic" depiction of a giant monster invasion. Rather he intends the film to be a "beautiful poem to giant monsters"; that is, a stylized throwback to the giant monster genre.

    Let me clear up a few plot holes for you all,
    First off, nukes have this little thing called fallout that really fucks up the environment and anyone living in it. Second off, it took not one, not two, but THREE tactical nuclear missiles to kill what can only be a catagory 1, or at most catagory 2 kaiju; Seeing as knifehead was the first catagory three they claim to have seen in the kaiju war. And they only got stronger after that so this is not a viable long term solution. Slattern even survived a massive point blank nuclear blast while already severely injured, and that bomb was far more powerful than anything we had previously, so yeah. Nukes wont solve everything.
    Second, we tried nuking the breach, they explained this in the movie. There is a barrier between us and the anteverse that only allows things with the kaiju DNA signature to pass, anything else, like nuclear bombs and jaegers, is simply deflected.
    Third, not everything can be fixed by static defenses. There are so many things that can go wrong with that. A, if we have a bunch of plasma cannons around the breach and continue to kill kaiju with them, what if they adapt to our tactics(like they have been shown to do!) and make a kaiju that is highly heat resistant? Now not only can we not kill it with the STATIC GUNS MADE SPECIFICALLY TO KILL KAIJU, that it is now out of range of unless we want to arm every single pacific coastal city with a bunch of these plasma cannons, but now we can't even kill it with nukes and other explosive weapons, which make up most of human tech. B, if we have the guns around our city coasts the kaiju could very easily go around onto an uninhabited beach and attack the city from behind, where the guns now cannot shoot because there is a city in the way. And even when they get to the guns they still might eventually adapt to them like I said in point a. C, I do agree that we should make more of those anti kaiju missles that Striker Eureka uses and equip the regular military with anti kaiju weapons like that, but the whole point of the jaegers is a weapons platform that can engage, stop, and kill kaiju before they cause too many civilian casulties. The anti kaiju weapons were developed specifically for the purpose of arming the mechs we made to engage them with weapons capable of killing them.
    I would also like to point out that they did infact use the sword again and made great use of it when they attacked the breach during Operation Pitfall. The kaiju still managed to fuck both of them up despite this. So yeah, it would not have been this easy.
    But my rant is over now, I apologise if I offended anyone and wish you all a sincerely good day.

      @SawedOffLaser 10 лет назад

      Well, I was kinda referring to the ending scene. Why did Gypsie not have a nuke just in case? Then, after killing the 2 Kaiju, they could have shoved the nuke inside it, dropped it in, and gave a huge middle finger to the Kaiju. This is me just over analyzing, Pacific Rim is still a kickass movie, and this vid was pretty funny too.

      well... actually Gypsie do have a nuke as its power source and they detonate it in the ending? And maybe Gypsie is not designed to bring a nuke on its back as the Stryker do. I think strapping a nuke on kaiju is their original plan but they failed to do it. And Gypsie's nuclear reactor is sort of a back-up plan if Stryker fails

    Pacific Rim should have ended when the 20 minute epic narrative in the intro ended. It just went down hill after that, with the horrendous dialogue, that would give Micheal a run for his money. And the plot twists LOL.

      Alpha Numeric Key I honestly thought they were slightly worse then a Micheal Bay film. It is a shame beacuse many of the actors in Pacific rim are well known incredible actors who have all been nominated or have women emmies. Sadly they should get them taken away from being in this film.

    Well, they actually did Nuke them at first, problem was they swam from the portal too fast for the Nukes to reach em in time from the launch sites outside the blast radius (they could have just hooked up a ton of subs to operate automated and sacrificed one each time to point blank fire them but meh). Then they had the problems with the Nuke blast radius required for them to be destroyed was too big and started causing damage to the environment on a catastrophic scale. Then the Kaijuu just became too big and started tanking Nuke salvos, with one of them tanking at least two rounds (they literally had to lure it back out of the city twice to Nuke it, ended up irradiating 1/3rd of the city in the process).
    Also fighting them at the Breach was harder, because surprisingly Jaegers aren't good at swimming. The Kaiju had far too many advantages in deep sea fighting, so they had to wait until they were in shallower coastal waters to have any chance.

    Im sorry to say that I don't think that Godzilla would be a catagory 5, or at least his 2014 version isn't.
    At the beggining of the movie, you see that tresspaser, the first kaiju, is so large that he can grab the golden gate bridge, and in godzilla 2014, godzilla is more or less the same height, so if the kaijus size increased constantly from the beggining we can assume that godzilla was actually a category ONE!
    And even if tresspasser wasnt a category one, they still state that Slattern was the first category five, so we can presume that Godzilla would at least be a category four or less. And even if you consider that they hadn't likely invented the category scale since tresspasser was the first kaiju, it was still taken out by a nuke, while the same weapon didn't succesfully kill Slattern. All this evidence suggest that Godzilla would not be a Cat five.

    • @thekingofthemonsters9050
      @thekingofthemonsters9050 9 лет назад +15

      Godzilla is easily above a category five and likely higher. Godzilla is bigger than the Pacific Rim Kaiju save for Slattern, smarter, and much more resistant to damage. Godzilla took a nuke with no visible damage, while Slattern was visibly hurt but not killed by a nuclear detonation. Slattern was even killed by getting sliced to death by a badly damaged Jeager about half his size. Godzilla's skin is so thick that if Gipsy Danger tried to stab it, his sword would probably shatter.
      The Kaiju can be killed by military weapons, unlike Godzilla or the M.U.T.O.s. In fact, I'd say the male M.U.T.O. would be at least a Category Three, while the female is either Category Four or Five. Godzilla was obviously tougher than either one, and would have killed them quickly one-on-one or if his atomic breath was at full power. Godzilla defies the Category Scale, even in his latest incarnation. Hell, Godzilla's Heisei incarnation could probably kill Slattern with one blast of atomic breath.

    I think the current Pacific Rim should be a trilogy by itself, with a dash of original Star Wars, or at least the last of a trilogy, please Hear Me Out
    First Movie covers the first few months into the War with some pre-War scenes features the characters
    The recruitment and training of pilots with maybe a focus on Beckett Brothers and maybe some light rivalry with Chuck
    Meanwhile the 2 sciences dudes started out barely noticing each other and are at least civil minded towards each other, but this degrades over 2 movies, only to be fixed halfway the 3rd
    After constructing the Jaegers and training the pilots, humanity is able to suppress the Kajiu for some time, at which the military decides sending a Recon Ship into the portal when approaching the next attack (which is yet to be predicted by one of the sciences dudes) The Recon Team tries to enter the portal but is hindered by the emerging Kaiju, at the last-ditch-attempt, the Mentor overload the onboard nuke reactor
    Nuke did not take out the portal, but it allow the Beckett Brothers to kill the current Kaiju, which is a bit stronger from the previous versions
    Movie ends with a sideways conversation Voice Over an Aftermath scene, with the Beckett Brother post battle, and a start of a more committed and serious dialog between the 2 sciences dudes, the beginnings of their eventual equal correct theories, and their own competing focus of interest starts with a small dismissal but both agreed that while humanity has a good lead the war is still far from over
    Second Movie
    Voice OVer with recaps and Time Skips
    MID-War scenes depicting the life of Jaeger Pilots, both Action and downtime scenes, Positive&Negative effect of Fame on Pilots
    Contiunation of sciences dudes with a degradation of mutual respect to mocking to refusal to work together
    Some countries started to build a Wall, because of some politicians are "encouraged" to sow doubt on the Jaeger initiative
    Movie End with Battle After Math in which Raleigh is dragging Gypsy Solo onto the beach, with a voiced over news broadcast
    In which more and more countries are constructing Walls which does defend against the current generation of Kaiju, and a mission briefing to the Council from Pentecost that this will not last, but its ignored
    Third movie = basically the current Pacific Rim movie

    I kept expecting them to use one of the chainsawed corpses to toss a nuke through the portal-thingy-whose-name-i-can't-remember, as per the original plan. As I recall, the number and frequency of kaijus coming through was gradually increasing, so wouldn't there have eventually just been too many for a single Jaeger standing guard? Which brings to mind another question about the film: what the hell kind of invasion plan is so predictable that you can describe it to a first-grader using mathematical concepts?

    Forget the fucking sword, they had NO NEED to build these huge mechs from the moment they had built their first plasma cannon - you know that thing in the mech's arm that fires super-heated plasma at the monsters and seems to be pretty damned effective, and IIRC *works underwater* ???
    Yeah those.
    So why not just build a whole number of those nice reactors they draw power from, stuck them in a whole fleet of VTOL aircraft with a plasma cannon mounted under the chassis and a 2-man cockpit in front. That way, you don't need super-expensive mechs or specially trained pilots you can draw from a very specific pool of possible pilots, but train pairs of regular average people so that one flies, another operates the weapon.
    Hell make Submarine versions too if you want, that way if any of the wanna-be world enders comes by you send a flotilla of these out and obliterate them.
    Apocalypse cancelled.

      Gunships and subs? Why even bother with that, when they knew exactly where all the kaiju were coming through? Just build a ring of plasma cannons around the Breach with motion detectors, and send trawlers out there after each arrival to pick up the floating bits of kaiju.

    • @Terenin
      @Terenin 9 лет назад

    • @robpegler6545
      @robpegler6545 9 лет назад +1

      Come to think of it, the invaders' strategy didn't make a whole lot of sense either. By all means, send one kaiju as a scout to test the waters, and see how much damage it can do before the humans manage to rally our defences and bring it down. But considering it lasted nearly a week and took out tens of thousands of people (pretty successful first strike, all things considered) why did they wait _six months_ to send a second one, and then gradually send more and more in an increasing - and, as it turned out, predictable - pattern, which only gave mankind time to develop better defences? Why not have a dozen of the things ready and waiting to pour through the Breach after that first scout?
