    I gotta say that this has become my favorite RUclips channel. First off I love tools, probably not as much as you, but the content is fantastic. You don't go too in depth as to lose viewers, and you keep it all clean and educational. Actually I watch your videos with my 5 year old daughter. She love it too. Thank you for all of hard work that goes into making these videos.

    Very nice! I like the release on that Gripso wrench. Entertaining as always! Fun tidbit about the squirrel, little blips like that make your videos have a nice human element.....of course, let's be honest, the tools are what 'shine'.
    Keep the videos coming! More tool restores, rare finds, and lifetime memories recalled!

    Locking pliers definitely deserve attention, and I so loved my Irwin Vise-Grips - among my first tools - that it never occurred to me they could be designed differently. Then this summer I purchased a couple of KNIPEX variants and I was very pleasantly surprised. The biggest improvement over the Irwins is a similar pull-down release to these GRIPSOs. They also put some handle material on that piece, and they seem impossible to pinch your fingers! They also make a terrific pair that has a rotating lower jaw that can stay parallel (not to be confused with the pliers wrench).
    I noticed both examples of GRIPSO products you showed are built with bent or rolled metal as opposed to forging. It would be very interesting to better understand that fabrication process. Great topic!

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  5 лет назад +2

      Hello Marc! You know there were dozens of variants of the locking plier! So many you would be amazed! I do prefer the release on these Gripso pliers but I am so used to Vise Grips they never gave me trouble! Thanks Marc!!!!!!

    Thanks for showing us these Scout. Like you said, there are so many different designs. I like seeing how the different ones work.
    My multitool that I have had on me every day now for around 20 years is a Kershaw A100. I got it for the very reason it has a great locking pliers on it and learned rather quickly how often a pair comes in handy even on a day to day basis.

      Hello Daniel! On this restoration the outside of the tool doesn’t look too different but how I cleaned it up and got all the rust from inside the tool out is what made the real difference now it works smooth as silk and that’s what really makes this restoration successful thanks so much Daniel!

    Ya got me with the tools. I just checked on Google and found a large pipe wrench that looks absolutely real. Right down to the knurling on the nut. It was made in Poland. Good one.
    I might be off but I think when I first used the Vise Grips brand the release was similar to the Gripso. When they changed it was much worse for me. The Peterson style takes two hands to release it or it falls to the floor. Kind of a pain when you are repositioning the locking pliers that you are using as a welding clamp 30 feet up on a ladder. 😠

    Love the locking pliers, never having seen this style in the UK. Here we always refer to locking pliers as Mole Grips just as you guys call the Vise Grips and I wonder if other countries use the different names for their own variants.
    The chocolate tools were a hoot at Christmas as my youngest daughter (she's 41, lol) got the same set for me. I have eaten them all except the pliers and twist drill which I have given to my dad and he refuses to eat them, saying they are a work of art. Keeping the packing from the box to put in the garden in spring for the birds to use when building their nests.
    Great video, (as always) and kind regards from over the pond.

Craftsman had an ‘auto lock’ pair of locking pliers back in the day with the same kind of adjuster. Of course the CM one was much more gimmicky and didn’t work very well at all. Looks like Gripso had everything figured out.

    Yeah, I’m not sure of the brand or anything and there were a few screwdrivers, spanner’s etc. One of the other things I found in there was a socket wrench with a bolt in the end of the socket for adjustment. Have you come across one of those?

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  5 лет назад +1

      Hello Pete, I don’t know- I can’t picture the Wrench with a bolt!? Thanks

    • @bigpete4227
      @bigpete4227 5 лет назад

      ScoutCrafter ok no worries. Ive got it in front of me now and I can see it’s just a normal ratchet bar and the socket is the adjustable piece. A bolt in the side of the socket pulls a cut out section of the socket wall in closer or further away so the socket size gets smaller or bigger.
      It’s called an adjustable socket from Taiwan.
      I think I’ll keep it in the car for just in case.

      nah , mole was a UK company started in 1958 making their version of the grips, they were invented in america but around that time both mole and vice grip invented their differing release system (before that other grips didnt tend to use a release lever) mole was based in monmouthshire but after just 3-4 years stanley bought them out and closed the orig factory, using the mole name for decades, but its only us from the uk use that term.
