Underwhelming reaction to such an extravagant gift. I realize it doesn't mean she wasn't thankful. People show emotion in different ways. Still, I would've faked it. I know how much it means to people even when you aren't feeling it. Gorgeous table! Such an incredible employer :)
People don't need to look "youtube thumbmail exited" to be happy. Faking is never the way. It shows so much when someone fakes it, it's way worst than a mild reaction
Fantastic job, guys. That came out great. (The subdued green looks better than the more common bright blue in my opinion.) And the recipient seems like an awesome lady.
I've been watching your content for a little while now and love your content, crew and vibe! You guys are awesome for hooking up your assistant and making her day even though she was wiped out from work. Keep doing you and stay safe 💯! See you in the next one 😁
I only got half way through the video and I could tell that your design is spot on! I can tell that Betsy is a very valued member of your team. I think she really likes and appreciates what y’all gave her and her family.
For filling rude voids where i work we fill the bigger voids first with bog, resin, expoxy, ect then seal the table under p180 then we use a wood filler after the seal has dried and sand that off with p240, leaves you with a nice flat face. Furniture Finnisher from AU here btw
As anyone who has been sunburned at the beach on a cloudy day will tell you, UV goes through clouds. Maybe try filling on a nicer winter day and it’ll work out. The UV should still be there.
I think you did such an amazing job with this table, put a lot of care and thought into it. However, you were more excited to show her the table than she was seeing it… even while she may be exhausted, I don’t see that much appreciation. Everyone is different with reaction, that may be it but this table is a beauty! Great work!

Hey John!Love your videos!For some reason,when me,my siblings,and my mom's parents were in Clayton,North Carolina,I stumbled upon your videos,and I liked them.😊
When it comes to the color green, my favorite, it's never the base grass, greenbay, tree green. Something with undertones of warmth. Gold is a fantastic compliment in small doses.
5:31 THATS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING! Except for the free part but thats a huge W! You could have also made her a matching coffee table if she could have used it
I did a green epoxy table that turned out really well - Black Diamond Matte Green mixed with their Matte Black. Much more of a muted green, but works well as a daily driver in the house.
For the UV resin filling small cracks. Check out the clear UV resin used in 3d printing, it's way cheaper and thinner. So it'll fall into the smaller cracks that the normal UV resin won't. It leaves a oily residue that you'll need to wipe off with wax and grease remover (stuff used before spraying cars). If the wood is really bad, you can just squeegie the uv resin over the whole thing, wheel it outside and let it set in a few minutes. Also works for bubbles coming out of the slab edge during bigger pours, and bubbles coming out from spraying finish over the top. Game changer.
I've never made a table, I've never poured epoxy, I'm not really a 'D.I.Y' person ............... but I always have a smile and watch your videos when they come out. Thank you :)

Just as an FYI...sheridan and Gillette both have a couple of places to get some slab. Look into smaller local mills. You can go cut down your own cottonwood and they'll mill it for relatively cheap. Had some highland juniper that was small but made beautiful multi-slab tables
Love the table - crystal green and honey burl made in heaven! But the base, which is also amazing, is about the only black thing in her house that I could see. Maybe think about a re-paint there.
People talk a lot of trash about Cottonwood; but honestly, it can be a damn beautiful wood. My Dad built a king size bed frame with Cottonwood slab headboard and footboard, the slabs have a natural curved edge, so the headboard/footboard arches in a real nice way, and the have incredible wavy grain and chatoyancy in them.
The time, effort, energy and attention to detail you put into this beautiful table is wonderful. The thoughtfulness, kindness and love the buyer showed his wife is heartwarming. You both did this for an obese malignant narcissist that deserves neither of you!! SHE is a see you next time.

John I love these videos. Can you do one of these but the epoxy have an ombré effect. Maybe do a blue fade to purple. Or red to orange. I know you and the team can do it and come up with something cool.
Cam at blacktail studios uses some sort of melted wax/crayon almost to fill the voids in those soft woods. He then uses a large flat piece of metal to press it down and help cool it. That way he can come back with a scraper and gently scrape just the wax off without putting divots into the soft wood. He always says it’s very tedious
I have a feeling her old table might end up recieveing some love and end up back in the dining room lol. She does not like that new one. I thought it was pretty class
Have you ever considered taking a slab slicing it in half lengthwise and then putting the two raw edges together for the acrylic I think it would be better than the both sides would actually match better and you would save slabs of wood

Blaxk Forest Wood Co does not seal the edges before they pour the resin. They say it will decrease the bonding of the wood and epoxy and will make it easier for it to delaminate with wood movment eventually. They use a cool room with a aluminium cool plate under the form to prolong the curing time so that the bubbles will be allowed to leave the epoxy naturaly and the epoxy to soak into the wood more. Their epoxy usually takes several days to cure just so that the bubbles will have time to rise to the surface properly.
