    A couple tips for keeping feet dry even with these. If you have OTB pants, use a big rubber band to secure the pant to the boot so you don't get splash up. I also have neoprene gators that I use between the boot top and the knee guard for an added protector from water pouring in from the top. ALWAYS wash your boots man!! ANd then spray with silicone to block out water damage.

    Finally, a drystar version !!! I own the ones in the background ( orange/blue/white ), I hope they release similar colors in the future. One negative about my Tech 7, the pivot points... they squeal like hell. If you walk on the streets with those boots, everybody looks at you :)

      Put a little talcum powder into the hinge, I used to just drop it in on the tip of a spoon and they wouldn't squeak for a couple days worth of riding

    ... I ordered these (and other items) from you yesterday.
    ... Thanks for the review!! ...
    I have been searching boots for weeks for Dual Sport and ADV.
    The Gaenre Fastback and SIDI Adventure 2 Gore-Tex were on the short list.
    I ended up deciding on the Alpine Star Tech 7 Enduro Drystar.
    They are expensive but I typically try and, "buy one, cry once."
    From what I researched:
    - It would be the driest of them all. Once I know the fit is correct, I am going to stand in a local stream and test them.
    - Offered the most protection.
    - 4 buckles that didn't have issues in the testimonials I watched.
    - Top is small enough for over the boot pants.
    - One-year waterproof warranty.
    - Weight at 3.9lbs.
    - Looks/styling.
    I hope they are not too hot for summer but if they are, I'll use moisture wicking socks, etc.
    Toebox space and overall comfort TBD.
    Thanks again,
    . Jeff .

    Bought these in March and am pushing about 150 hours on these boots.
    My thoughts on them are nearly all positive. Yes, they are hot in 90-100 degree days. On rainy or muddy days they are really nice and very warm when the temps drop. I will know soon enough but would guess these will be warm down to near freezing temps for fall and winter season here in the Rockies.
    The toe cap has worn significantly from shifting as well as the sole around the rear brake pedal which is standard for the tech series boots. There will possibly be a hole in the toe cap or the sole by seasons end.
    Biggest gripe is the toe strap, after about 20 hours they break in real nice and ten toe strap needs to be shortened to be tight enough on my foot. Luckily there was a dude who did a RUclips video showing how to take it out and trim it just a little, that is a necessary modification to get the perfect fit.
    Also found these not as true to size as others have stated. I wear a ten pretty much unanimously. Fox, gaerne, forma, usually always wear a ten. Had to go down to a nine on these. Ymmv

      Matthew, being that it is waterproof, it's not going to breath as well. If you're riding, I don't know if you'd notice it too much. I haven't ridden in them so I can't really say how much hotter they would be when you stop. - Chase

    It can coast you some crash at times...

    My only hesitation in buying these, I'm a gaerne/sidi buyer, is that everyone I ride with that has Alpinestars has issues with buckles get snagged and pulled open on a ride. I'm surprised that both Gaerne/Sidi have not made anything more than an ADV boot with Goretex. I'm likely to buy these Alpinestars though I already have 4 pair of newer boots....

    Will Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro Drystar Motorcycle Boots work for large calves (18-19") and still close properly all the way down the opening? Are longer straps available? If not, what boots would be recommended considering the above and optimal protection while being waterproof?

  • @noControl556
    @noControl556 4 года назад +3

    How breathable are they? I've found other drystar products to get swampy compared to Gortex. Currently I run a pair of tech 7's a size big along with the Klim gortex socks over thin mx socks to stay dry in the winter. This seems like a less bulky option.

    • @mattzobian
      @mattzobian 2 года назад +3

      If foot sweat or hot weather riding is an issue, make sure your boot is slightly big (or wear extremely thin socks) so you have plenty of room for airflow, and leave a couple fingers of space at top of your boot (ie, don't buckle them tight). A big mistake folks make is wearing a snug boot, and their feet overheat. (Having a little room in your boot does not make them less protective or impact your foot control. You'll see.)

    The toe Buckle adjuster gap was the issue with the waterproofing, I dont think it needed a full liner.

    I wear 11 in my danner work boots and my feet were swimming in the size 11 tech 7 enduro drystar’s even with the buckles pretty much maxed out. Went with size 10s and I’m a little worried I went with the wrong size. Should have I gone with insoles and thicker socks in the size 11s? Seems like that’s what most people do. I can still return them at my local cycle gear. Usually ride in work boots as I hated my old tech 1s so I’m a little mx boot tarded.

    I disagree with your comment about the calf opening, I have pretty large calves i had to return fox boots in the past for that very reason but this boot fits well with my knee brace on. I love them so far, I had been looking for a Motocross style waterproof boot for a very long time

    How are these for long distance adv riding? Especially when compared to SIDI Goretex 2

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  4 года назад +3

      We have a rider that wears these for our ADV rides here and he loves them. The sole is definitely stiffer than the Sidi but they're awesome if you're doing some more aggressive riding. The rider also does a lot of MX and trail riding too so he likes that this boot can cover both categories. However, If I were getting a boot just for ADV riding, I'd probably go with the Sidi for the walking comfort. - Chase

    I wear orthotic inserts in my regular shoes. Do these have any kind of a removable pad in the boot that could be removed and an orthothic put in? Also, do you order these the same size as your regular shoe size? Back in the 70's when I was racing, I wore a thick pair of socks. Is that necessary? Or do standard socks work? Thanks

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  3 года назад +1

      These fit true to size so a standard sock will work. And yes, most boots allow you to remove the insole and put in a custom one.

    Chase- I've worn Alpinestar waterproof boots to Artic. The smell after a couple days will kill most anything, plus feet look like they've been wrapped up in baggies. I was hoping the Tech 7 Drystar aren't so nasty but provide some water resistance and . Seems petty, but I ride loads of miles on trips anywhere from 800 to 5500 miles on some journeys. Boots that smell so bad make for grumpy room mates :-0

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  3 года назад +1

      That sounds like no fun. Yeah, I don't know if the Tech 7s will be any better with the drystar liner than what you've already experienced. I haven't ridden in them so I'm not sure. You could ask that question on the product page and see if someone who has used them has any good feedback for you. - Chase

      I haven't ridden in the Toucan so I'm not sure. However, we have a couple riders here who wear the tech 7 on our adventure rides and they do great. It's a moto boot so breathability isn't the best, but any waterproof boot doesn't breath too well either. - Chase

    I've got the fox enduro boot. Coming from a alpinestar tech 8, the fox boot is such a pile of shit. 10 months and they are falling apart. My 3rd pair of boots are real old tech 8 from 1999, still awesome, pretty sad when 21 year old alpinestar tech 8s are in better shape then 2019 fox enduro boots with less then 50 hours on them.

    I have some AStars Drystar ADV boots (Corozal), and am not impressed by either the waterproofing or the breathability. Mine seem to leak at the tow box on one of the boots, and the boots really hold in sweat. The result is very smelly boots that need special care to dry out. I would not buy this version of the Tech 7's.
