Got my first pumas this week - the deviate nitro v1 for £63 from start fitness. Got to replace speed 2s for workouts and they feel a little bit heavier but just as poppy. I never suffer with heel issues so went for the v1 to save a few quid. The foam is *chefs kiss*

Love this shoe, soft, responsive, lower stack- relative! breatheable, stable. Tight at the metatarsal heads though which is my only gripe, you can feel the medial powertape, bit annoying but no blistering. Best 'supershoe' for me, wearing it for marathon in 3 weeks, no issue for me as an overpronating heel striker.

I just bought Nitro Elite from Start Fitness for under £80 so glad to hear you validate my decision! Seems a great price for a carbon shoe and will be rotating with both Vaporfly and Tempo Next%.

Thinking about Deviate Nitro Elite 2 vs Deviate Nitro 3 as a more Tempo orientend daily trainer. I still have a Saucony Tempus and a Takumi Sen 9 in my rotation. I´m more a fast then a long runner.

I'm a big fan of the Deviate Nitro 2 for everyday running so I'd imagine that the feel and ride of this are similar but it's lighter and faster, which is intriguing. The DN2 was one of my favorite shoes of 2022 and remains a reliable workhorse for me that can do everything pretty well. My only wish is that it was lighter for the speed sessions.
I like the look and feel of the DN2 and this Elite version looks to be in the same vein - more old school with some modern refinements with the midsole and the carbon plate. Some of these new modern supershoes are too over-the-top and pretty goofy looking. I'll definitely try this out when they have other colorways available.

Now is a good time to try it, they've got multiple colorways on sale with their labor day sale. As cheap as $108 for certain ones

Totally agree Fordy. For less than £80 the v1 is a great buy. I use mine for speed/tempo training runs as a replacement for speed 2s. Felt firm and tight when I first put them on but legs, feet and toes feel great after a session in them. Yes they are not comparable to Pro 3 or Vaporfly but I would save those shoes for racing, not training. The outsole looks like it will last well and they are extremely light. I have done slower runs in them and they felt fine which is not the case with many super shoes and they could be used as a daily trainer. What other shoe is out there at this price that compares??

interesting, I tried a Velocity Nitro 2 and it also made me pronating when standing. Like the inner middle part of the sole is missing.

Fordy, is better than deviate nitro 2?

  • @thomasbeasley3271

Worth noting that despite these not being a super shoe it doesn't matter because it doesn't come with a super shoe price tag. This is one of the best all rounders going. It's a very safe bet

good morning. I have 3 questions: Is its cushioning good? I would like to know if this shoe is suitable for half marathon / marathon and also for short training sessions, such as 5K, 10K. After 3 months, how is its durability? a big hug from Brazil 🇧🇷

I really wanted to like the £83.00 V1s I bought a few weeks back, for goal marathon paced runs in my marathon training plan, not wanting to use my Saucony pro 3's and NB V4s being to heavy really, but after a couple of runs, I felt so beat up and barely went passed 14miles and for me anyway no way a marathon shoe, and I think the V2 are probably much the same, maybe an alternative to my takumi sen 8s possibly. I had to sell them on and got a pair of Speed 3's, which fits the bill perfectly. I so wanted to love the Pumas and positives, fit was great, loved the upper, but they didn't work for me. Speed 3's are Great especially at discount prices now.

Personally I don't understand what all the fuss is about with the Nitro Elite v1? I've just sold mine with only 13 miles of running in them as I just thought they were bang average lol The Saucony Pro 3 is a far superior shoe in my opinion and I'd even go as far as to say the Speed 3 could match that Nitro Elite v1.
I will be giving the v2 a miss but as you said if you enjoyed the Elite v1 then fair enough the new model might be worth looking at, but for me I've got my Pro 3's and I've just had the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro arrive so I'm looking forward to testing those bad boys out 😎

Well, let me say that what you call "the fuss" is about being 24 seconds faster on a 5K (tested at the running track doing 5x1Km with 2min of rest). Having said that, at that cheap price, you clearly can't expect to have the same durability of the Pro 3. Infact, I do believe that wearing the Deviate Nitro Elite V.1 you have a lifespan of 200km (talking about performances). Currently, I've reached 370km using the Pro 3 and, although slower than the DNE (according to my initial test), they haven't lost too much speed, confirming that they are definitely more durable.
Please, feel free to take a look at my channel, to understand better what I'm talking about.
