    Shallow forefoot volume has always been a bugbear of mine with Altras, it forced me to wide fit HOKAs -Arahi & Bondi. They've fixed the volume with the later Olympus versions. Great review.

      @barefootrunreview  4 месяца назад

      Agreed. The only one I've found to be deep is the Lone Peak. Ironically that's too deep for me and ends up in a sloppy fit. :)

      @@barefootrunreview Don't worry about quality. Hell, I don't even think my vids are particularly high in quality. I think you have a few interesting takes on the shoes your reviewing and I think you're doing great

    Go up a half size. These are tight. Yes, it's because of the depth but that translates to width if you have a high instep (like me). Taking out the insole makes a difference but if I'd gone up a half size maybe this would not have been necessary. My Olympus 4s were way more comfortable and cost me the same money.

    • @barefootrunreview
      @barefootrunreview  2 месяца назад

      How do you find the length especially with the stiffer rocketed base? Does the roll through transition well under the ball of the foot?

  • @lmbraga
    @lmbraga 2 месяца назад

    What Altra have been doing with toe box size is strange. The Lone Peak and the Olympus are super spacious to the point my foot can slip around in there. The recent models of the Superior are so shallow what my toes catch on the upper. The Timp was the only one with a sensible toe box volume, if they're changing that one too I can't understand what's Altra's audience anymore.
    Super-spacious shoes for hikers and super shallow shoes for short-distance runners.... where are the Ultra runners gonna go? Topo Athletic?
    Too bad, because I always wished for a Vibram Timp.

    • @barefootrunreview
      @barefootrunreview  2 месяца назад

      I tend to agree, but like you say, there are still options in the Altra lineup. I personally make most of these options work, but still my favourite is the Superior, even though it's shallow. A quick switch of the insoles makes it comfortable for me. Have you tried anything like this?
      Otherwise, I avoid Topo because of the pronounced arch support. I don't think it belongs in shoes of this kind.

  • @DorenSorell
    @DorenSorell 6 месяцев назад

    Thanks for the review! I too love the show but feel it's too shallow. What 2mm insoles did you get that fit the shoe?

    • @barefootrunreview
      @barefootrunreview  6 месяцев назад

      Sure thing! I used some old Inov8 insoles that I had.
      Xero Shoes sell some insole which are around 2-3mm. xeroshoes.com/shop/product-category/extras/ and I've seen some similar ones on Amazon too.

    Hey there, would you recommend the Altra Timp 5 for hiking as well?

    • @barefootrunreview
      @barefootrunreview  4 дня назад +1

      I wouldn't personally, but it depends on your feet and foot strength.
      I would usually advise opting for a more flexible option such as the Superior or Lone Peak, especially for hiking. But if you're used to stiffer shoes, you may have to take some time to transition into these options.

      @@barefootrunreview how about their vibrams? Are they good as the Timp one?

    • @barefootrunreview
      @barefootrunreview  4 дня назад +1

      @@veitastic6866 The outsoles on the Lone Peak and Superiors are Altra's MaxTrac which I wouldn't say is as good as Vibram, but it's better than it used to be. If you're trails are mainly dry, you'll be fine with the MaxTrac, but if they are little more muddy, or there are lots of technical rocky trails, the Vibrams, and the Timps would do better.

    As also a barefoot shoe anyways runner, my Lumos like run up to like 20-30 miles but REI today and I seen these on special and they had one pair of my size so I put them on and they actually felt pretty good. What is the ground feel like probably almost nonexistent but the other thing is does the shoe feel soft underneath? I just return the innovates I hadmade me lose my balance a few times just curious

      @@toddboucher3302 very little ground feel, and I'd say they're not too soft compared with other cushioned shoes. They have their place for fast rugged terrain. But for a barefoot runner they may be a bit too disconnected from the ground.

    I tried these on today at REI. They feel better than my Olympus 5 Low Hike GTX. The toe box is higher, the cushion is perfect, the uppers are flexible and well ventilated. I mainly use Topo Athletics, but also have a few Altras. I'm thinking of adding a pair of these to my life.
    Thanx for the video my Brother 👍

    Hey man,
    Great review! I also like minimalist shoes. I've got over two thousand miles on my vivo primus lites. I just picked up the timp after I saw your review and because I've used almost every timp model ever made. Can I just ask what insoles you put into the shoes? I would love to do the same. I've always looked for thinner insoles but never purchased them. Thanks!

    Thanks so much for the great review!! Yes, swapping around insoles is a solution I discovered pretty quickly when I started running, works for quite a range of problems with different shoes!!! I also often like different socks with different shoes too!! My mouth dropped open at your wife's experience with the durability though... is she one of those runners who tends to chew through shoes at all??
