Just finished walking the Camino Norte and Primativo wearing Lone Peak 8s . Perfect for that job 850km no blister issues whatso ever. Comfortable and light. Using Merino socks.
Recently just subscribed to your channel mostly running Luna sandals doing 100 mile hopefully this year but found out about 40 miles often on through the course is gravel so I wasn’t looking forward to that so I watch your thing on the temp. Check that out at the store, thinking about it. I had the size down. They felt OK so I was actually actually thinking maybe superior is good. A friend told me he said you won’t even tell the difference between the superior and the long peak and that might fit my running style a little better not sure any thoughts from anyone.
If you're used to Luna's, I'd suggest coming with the Superiors, or maybe the new (old remake) Altra King MT. The only thing to be careful with in the superiors is the depth, they're very shallow. I switch out the insoles out of the box to get more depth in the shoe. For me the Lone Peak doesnt fit my width, but at the same time, is sloppy in the heel. Underfoot there's just a little difference with the superior. Lastly. The Timp is a very different, solid and protective shoe. Nothing like your sandals. They can work for faster rocky terrain, but I'd assume they're not for you.
It's sad that I only dicovered your review after ordering the Lone Peak 8 via internet (you cannot buy them in a shop in The Netherlands). I ran on them today and felt they are too wide. I have what I believe you mean by "shallow"feet (narrow) and I felt a lot too much space in the shoes. These are my first trailrunning shoes. Next week I am ging to the Czech hills (quite hard and steep terrain with lot of rochks) to run on them, but now I'm afraid I made the wrong choice. Can't really sned them back now I tried them out. So I should heve got the "Superiors"? I normally run on Lunasandals or Vivibarefoot Primus LIte. Do you have an advice to make the best of the situation? Thicker toe-socks?
The Superiors would work great for fit, but it depends how muddy you expect the trails to be. The Superiors don't have good grip in the mud. Another option could be the Vivobarefoot Primus Trail if you're already used to minimal shoes? I wear them for trail races and they're great. (Not the Knit, they're too sloppy)
Sure thing! I love the superior, but just haven't got round to doing the video review yet. You can check out barefootrunreview.com for a written review though. :)
The standard width Lone Peak is similar to the midfoot of the Timp 5, but it differs in many other areas. It's deeper, wider in the toe box and heel, and more relaxed in general. I think relaxed is the best way to describe the Lone Peak.
Quite a lot. For example, In the Timp 5's I had to replace the insole to a thinner option because it was so shallow. Whereas, the Lone Peak was so deep I never got a good lock down.
Arh yeah. I've tried Topo many times, but I can never get over the arch support. I don't think it's a great idea from a foot health perspective, and it feels uncomfortable to me. Because of that, I decided not to review them any more.
@@barefootrunreview Same here, really want to love them. They have awesome build quality but cant get over the arch support. Tried a couple of them now

Awesome! Glad they worked for you!

Please do an Altra Superior video (and maby the Escalante racer!)

Is the Timp 5 wider in the midfoot?

Try Topo. Much more durable and great fit for wide feet with an arch

Topo really limits foot movement the arch support gets really uncomfortable as soon as you yourself develop a strong arch imo.
@@aurorasurrealis1032 I second that!

@@cedric_v sadly it doesn't look like it's changing any time soon either. 😕
