I made this log arch in 3 days. So could You. #log #arch #logging #sawmilling #homemade #DonnDIY #eestiyoutuber Donations accepted at: youshouldbuild... Blueprints available at: youshouldbuild...
I can't express just how much help this video provides as I'm designing one for myself. I like the way you film and show your process step-by-step. I've definitely subscribed as this video and a couple of your other builds have been pivotal in how I intend to incorporate several elements into my logging trailer. I've now re-designed a few critical parts thanks to a few of your videos. Very straight-forward, intelligent designs! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
+ReViveIndustries It's good you've found something usable for yourself from this video and it somehow benefits to your projects. I wish you all the best with your wood shop too! Keep helping these guys, you're changing lives.
Отличная работа! Надеюсь вы покрасили Log arch, чтоб избежать коррозии. И для красоты =) I hope that you have painted Log arch to avoid corrosion. And for the overall design
***** I have one that my neighbor built for me, Like to have a walking beam next. That one you assembled in another vid, Was it expensive? Thanks for the reply and happy holidays to you.
Nice to have a thought companion. :) Only I wasn't the only one who put his mind into bulding this arch. I built it for an acquaintance and we thought of this setup together.
Nice work! I have the Logrite ATV arch and it's pretty awesome. I don't have your skill set but it would be fun to make my own. Did you consider using a high and low speed wench? Logrite has one and it's handy.
Wiktor Szymański I don't remember the dimensions anymore and since I'm lazy and I'm not around the log hauler right now I can't actually measure the tongs. But I'll tell you how I made them. Here's an illustrative picture: lh4.googleusercontent.com/--cAEcV80jYc/VGkltTbh6dI/AAAAAAAAM_g/JDkWeOJ4TA0/s1152/20141117_002949.jpg I designed the tongs for specific log diameter which is the maximum for the tongs (lets say 60 cm, almost two feet). I drew the tongs around it and placed the catching points/tips below the center of the log. And the geometry of the linkage is totally up to the person who wants to fabricate the things and fortunately it is no-brainer. But you have to keep in mind that the tongs should open a bit more than the maximum diameter, thus it is possible to remove the tongs from the log with ease while working.
Ha ha I love that part when you say you are lazy. I really like your works. Thanks for your thoughts and drawing. This tells me almost everything. If there is anything you want to add you can always write back. Thanks!
I would love for you to realize you can cut steel with a carbide blade on a circular saw. They make special low speed saws and blades, but normal wood shit will do it. CARBIDE TIPPED BLADE!
Diesel Ramcharger I am aware of the different tools that are used in the metal business. The circular saw with carbide tipped blade is $$$ and I can't afford it.
@@DonnDIY For MAG (not mig here.......) it's not the better way. Welding forward will give better penetration......btw backward works also, but forward is even better.
There's no skill needed, just an angle grinder with a cutting disc and some material and eventually a welder too. I forgot the most important thing - time. :)
I love this video! I intend to try my hand at building one of these based on your design. I love to reuse old junk that others have discarded. I can figure everything out except the design for the tongs. Is there any way I can convince you to post the design with measurements for the tongs? Or send it to me directly? Thank you for your consideration. Love the project either way!
Kevin Beatty Hey. There's nothing complicated about the tongs. Just take a cross-section of the largest diameter log that You want to move around and draw tongs from top of the cross-section down under the center of the log. And there You have it. Here's an illustrative picture I made: lh4.googleusercontent.com/--cAEcV80jYc/VGkltTbh6dI/AAAAAAAAM_g/JDkWeOJ4TA0/s1152/20141117_002949.jpg
Thanks for the reply. My main concern was the top half of the tongs, in figuring out where to put the pin where the two sides cross so I can get pressure on max opening as well as max closing. I decided to make a set from cardboard so I could play around with the different pin placements. I have converted that to my bar and welded everything up. Hopefully I will get lots of use from this project. Your videos are really incredible.
Very nice job!!
And thank you for not adding any annoying dramatic or psychedelic music to the background!!
Favorite part was the wheelie. Nice work.
you're just what the world needs more of inventive and resourceful! good job
Thank You! ;)
Wise guy, i do like your arch.
Cheers!
Really nice video and build - your welds look awesome!
Rick Rabjohn Thanks, man! I tried my best.
The wheelie on the mini-bike......Priceless lol
phillip carroll ;) Mini bikes produce endless fun!

Thanks man! I made it for a client. He probably painted it.
Wish you had a video of it in use. I’m curious how the winch helps and if the tongs need to be sharp/ pointed to hold the log
Nice! Thanks
Nice job
Would you reccomend using round tubes instead ??
Nice. I would like to have 1 that was made by you. You are a Craftsman, sir. Thanks for sharing.
Great fabrication skills. Inspiring to watch. Log tongs are cool, not easy to get right, especially for a one size fits all diameters of logs.
Gopaw I used a sketching/drawing program to design the shape for the tongs. Made the process alot easier. ;)
Процветания Вам и каналу!!
Great job and video!
Thanks! I appreciate it! ;)
3:55 I thought I heard a cute kitten
very well thought out and built
tim trott Thanks! I hope I inspired You in some way.
muy bien, lindo remolque felicidades
The wheelie was a nice touch. Lol
Jim Hixson It was something relaxing next to the hard work. :)
Very good. You are very resourceful.
Great job... Like a pro !
Flanders Tractor Working with steel is also great! ;)
"So could you." That's a nice thought, but I don't think so. Awesome, quailty build!
+Mike Berry Sure you can! I still believe so. :)
Very neat
Cheers.
very nice
Brilliant, it's like watching NASA building a space shuttle.
I'd like this thing to perform like a shuttle - would love to visit outer space. :)
Haha 😉
Nice job man.
dadgad68 I'm glad You like it. I enjoyed making this contraption.

Hello dear friend, can it be done with a chain key instead of the crank key? greetings

Nice tutorial!
+sukivel Thanks! It wasn't meant as a tutorial but works that way too. :)
I really wanted to see this in action
Here you go: ruclips.net/video/rnMwZ4ke37I/видео.html Not the same arch but the working principle is the same.
Nice work. I'm impressed.
if you cant buy it at walmart , or make it , it dosent exist. excelllent work. i thawt i heard a puddy tat , i did , i did hear a puddy tat :)
Se puede adivinar para que sirve, podrian haber echo alguna demostracion
So what country are you in Evil Kanevel
nice
Thank you.
What's the thickness/gauge on the square tube you used? Mild still correct?
I think it was at least 3 mm wall thickness. Might have been 4. Just a regular steel tube.

I don't really think you need the log grapple with the cable winch.
Dónde se puede comprar estos equipos?

Why are you mig welding backwards? Its not mma/stick
I know there are different types of drawing techniques, I'm just doing it this way.

Great Job. Paint it orange.
+Thomas Harrell :D I painted one arch red but I should do the orange one too. :D
+Donn D. I was kinda joking. But for real you went to so much trouble and made it very nice I guess you should paint it. .
молодец !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Ya but does it work?
Yup, not the one I built but another log arch I built after this one: ruclips.net/video/rnMwZ4ke37I/видео.html
I CAN HEAR A CAT MEOW IN THE BACK GROUND ,,
Yup, we have heaps of cats around here, no wonder one of them got famous on RUclips. :D
Lots of people show off their pets, dogs and cats and flower beds while trying to show important things on RUclips. I guess they are proud of them.
And his "Big Boy" Biker skills
Nice piece of work, I of course would have made a change. I would have purchased the tongs due to lack of skill on my part.
There's no skill needed, just an angle grinder with a cutting disc and some material and eventually a welder too. I forgot the most important thing - time. :)

Nice video, but I had to put a potato on my eyes a few hours later.

How much did they cost tires with a rim?
I made this arch for a client, he got the whole trailer that I cut up for couple of euros as scrap metal.

This guy is way more interesting than chuckE2009 god he wont shut up on his videos and has the most obnoxious voice.
U spent 200 metal they o rims and tires
donald laisure The rims and tires were cheap - sold for scrap metal. Tires were punctured and rotten but rims and hubs were good to use.
