I actually finally shelled out for a Snap On tool. My shop has an Autel, but it's always either dead, being used, or some other thing wrong with it whenever I need it. Plus, someone had just traded one of these in so I got it for a song. Fully updated, great condition, about 1/3 of what it would have cost me to buy a brand new one. Always ask your tool truck guy if he has any trade ins.
Do I have to update my snap on scanner every year. I’m wanting to use it for reading motor and transmission codes and live data. I know updates will let me access newer models and such. Can I get away with a update every 3-4 years
If it doesn’t get updated in a year or two or three... does it lock you out??? Or does it turn off some features?? Can you still use it without updating it?? Thanks
I know a mechanic friend that has a Modis Edge, I asked him today when was the last time he updated his scanner he told me he never did since he bought it. he purchased the scanner in 2016. I used the scanner a couple of times and it seemed to do just fine but, I was just looking for codes, component tests, nothing too serious. It would be nice to hear from Justin Dow about that though. Thanks for asking I actually do wanna know. I doubt it would turn off some features but, they will definitely not be up to date as far as info accuracy.
It'll work for most everything it did when you bought it. I think the Snap-On ones will lock you out of their identifix type system if you haven't updated in a year though.
No. Updates just get you info on new model years and the like. If it's connected over wifi you might get a nag screen every so often but that should be it.
Dodge dealer I worked at, I had to buy my own Micropod ($700). That or keep pissing off the other techs by using theirs all the time. When I left they would not let me take it with me since I payed for it. Pissed me off. And they would not give me my money back. There are reasons I left that place.
Ninja Tech Auto. Why not take them to court? I don’t think it’s right for them to keep something that they are not paying for it. I would be so pissed and I would burn that dealership down.
Not impressed bought from my dealer who i have dealt with since 87 , i needed a scan tool that would work with resetting the SCR on MC Sprinter my dealer called Snap on tech they assured him the tool would do the job , as a shop owner for now 30 yrs i have stayed with OTC/ Bosch and Drew Tech for programing even Bosch tech was honest enough to say there Heavy truck scan unit could not perform the function purchased the Snap- on unit yes it has SCR data and info however more so on a 13 Sprinter there is over 25 variants MB refuses to release any info when called . My first thoughts should have been my last when the Snap on unit would not auto Id vech a clear indication that the MB ecu's are not present no diff than my Evlove or Encore's . When i called Snap on tech dept i was welcomed to complete stupid on the other end, i dont blame my dealer i do blame Snap on tech dept for letting people answer the phone who have not a clue . If a company is going to market a tool as able they should have agreements made with said car/ truck makers. For those that reprogram you should take heed that MB does not share nor sells info as most all other car makers, IE GM, Ford, Chrys, BMW, VW, and several other company's that do sell there info for most all pass thru devices . Myself and my Techs know send it to the dealer is not in the shops Vocab i have no issues purchasing equipment ness to perform dealer level repairs what i cannot stand is companys who sell such equipment who lie about what there product can or should say cannot do...

No joke man just picked mine up for 1000$ plus the sw updates
I think you can also run diagnostics on injectors like checking each injector for gas or diesels

I opted for the modis best of both worlds a solid and vantage rolled into one
This scanner is old news now, they just released a solus legend, which I just purchased.

I’m buying a Snap-On SOLUS Edge today ! Thanks for a video
hey you didn't mention if it programs replaced used/new modules ? or if it program keys ? or have other features like relearning
the Solus edge doesn't re-program modules, doesn't program keys, but it does have adaptive relearning> Hope this helps :)
Good stuff

What does a solid Edge cost new
Can you ADD the VIN NUMBER to a USED ENGINE COMPUTER ?
Hey
Is it include j2534 ?
nice scan tool
Is this better than the solus ultra
I see techs now scoping data now. Do scopes replace scanners or do you need both tools?
In My Case you really only need a scan tool. In others you may need both. It depends on what your working on and how involved in diagnostics your in
Hey
I have a question about my Solus Edge
Can I call you to ask this question?

How can anyone stop you from taking what belongs to you?
How much its the software update??
Over $500

Snap On is weakest on Euro stuff. Asian or Domestic they can usually do just about everything, at least in my experience.
