- We speak with Manuel Oliver, co-founder of the gun reform group Change the Ref, about Tuesday's mass shooting at an elementary school that left 19 children and two adults dead in Uvalde, Texas. Oliver is the father of Joaquin, one of the 17 students killed in the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He encourages those closely affected by Tuesday's shooting to channel their grief into action on gun control, and calls on celebrities to commit to the fight.

That means weapons of war; essentially whatever weapon you could expect to be attacked with. If the expectation is the person, or people who endeavor to unlawfully deprive you of liberty will use nukes, then so be it. We should have nukes.

Pretty shitty. I was talking to my two teenaged kids last night about how in other countries, their students don't have to do lock-in drills in the classroom to prepare for an active shooter scenario. My daughter was shocked by that. She already knew that our gun violence epidemic is bad, but I think she had no idea just how abnormal this shit is compared to everywhere else. I refuse to let my kids grow up thinking that this is just how life is when THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

When I witnessed the Governor of Texas talking about this mass shooting tragedy yesterday, I saw absolutely no empathy, no compassion. Greg Abbott's reign should end, immediately. Our US Government needs new Humans, too.
He has always seemed like a disconnected robot to me, not just because it's an emotional time, but every time I see him speak he says bizarre lies, such as when he talked about forcing raped women that get pregnant to give birth and how he would go after rapists, as if that was even possible. As I watch him talk, he appears to twist truths in his favor and search for what sounds like emotional words but they are a little off or unusual, as though he were just saying what he think sounds good but there is no feeling or humanity connected to it, like a corrupted computer program.
The idea of political power is a distortion of truth. The true power of this country lies within We the People. The most powerful tool we possess is the Vote. If it is true that 90% of the people want stricter gun laws, then why is it not being done? We the People.
This man is so right we need hundreds more Manuel Olivers to speak out against gun violence.

Stop hearing of what one didn't notice or realize, (hindsight), and have an early intervention. Pro active instead of reactive. The parents who got arrested after their son shot and killed students at school surely didn't believe that their kid would do such a thing. The school officials didn't either or they would not have let him go back to class. But in hindsight...

Count how many times the networks show handguns and assault rifles in just their commercials for their violent programming. It's disgusting! This is about the glorification of violence. As for video games?...how many simulated killings does the average kid engage in as entertainment. This is all desensitization to violence by young minds. What do we expect?
Violent video games and TV/movie violence exist all around the world, but we are the only developed country with this very unique crisis. Why? Because of guns and how easy they are to buy. So easy, that we have more guns than people in the US. Please stop spreading the long-debunked talking point that video games and TV violence have anything to do with our gun violence epidemic.
Video games have absolutely no effect on desensitizing people to guns. If anything it's a means for children and others to act out scenarios that you could never enact in reality. It satisfies the curiosity, and keeps people grounded. If movies and video games had such an effect on people then all 1st world nations would have the same problem, they do not.

I've also been arrested multiple times for stomping on turtles in public. I just couldn't help myself, the years of programming overrode all sense and control.
