Good video, I just did this today in my 2005 S430. I used a flat head screwdriver and carefully applied pressure on the coil until I heard a slight click when putting it back on. I gapped my plugs to .43. Unfortunately I did not have air tools or a garage while doing this. LOL....
Thank you so much.... 2 day a go i did my E320, change 12 spark plugs by hand no tool, it took me like 4 hours to take the wires off to the spark plug....Crazy lol
Great job on placing links to the tools and everything. I am a RUclips taught mechanic. Thanks to people like you i can do most of the work myself. I am currently tackling the P0400 code on my ML500 "Clogged EGR tube" but i definitely need to change my plugs and wires and didnt know how. Thank you again. If you got anything on the EGR job, please let me know.
This video is terrific. I now know how to do this job. I bought the Bosch wire set from Rockauto for a good price. I was wondering why you didn't say about how much torque to torque the plugs though. Anyway, I'm going to get the special spark plug wire wrench. thanks for taking the time to make this great video.
I'm looking for firing order for spark plug number to some people say it is the first on the passenger side under the first coil pack some people say it's the second one internet doesn't seem to pinpoint it can you please help from trying to change for code P0 302 thanks
thanks so much for the help and tips. and YOU WERE SOOOO RIGHT about the wrench. i cant imagine doing the job without it. i also got a combo deal on the tool and it came with the bendable swivel socket; and i say again, i cant imagine doing this job without those tools
Thanks mate! Good video! And very useful :-) I have an S430 same model. I fix all I can by myself... I had now a stupid task the other day... I had for sale an S320 and the boot lock got jammed. Central lock did not work... and so I had to open the boot. The key blade went in but the lock got jammed. Key turned but did not click... So I was so desperate almost broke the right tail lights to get into the boot when I forced a bit more the lock and help with two friends of mine we finally managed!
could you post the bend angles in the wrench? I got a benz for a couple of bucks on craigslist thats on its last legs and dont wanna spend anything on it until Im sure its gonna live at least a few months. ... I have a few 17mm wrenchs around and would like to try heating and bending them with a torch and anvil.
I am learn to do my own repairs. This video taught me a lot. I am assuming these are the same procedures for an 2003 E320. If not then please direct me to the correct video. I am also looking for a video to change the oil.
REALLY LIKED the video and VALUABLE information! Only thing additional might be to do what my Mercedes shop does and that is to power wash engine before work, I take it to Hans Richter at Texas-German Autohaus in Houston if too much for me or don't have the time and they wash and even vacuum it --even if they just give me an estimate!!!. ALSO Mercedessource says in his Y-vid to use air to blow out around the spark plug before remove to avoid debris from getting in cylinder...both seems like great ideas and even more important to wash first when working on my old diesels! I am getting the spark plug tool because I already have too many tools and one more won't matter! I made the Ford-Navistar tool for the injector pump removal!
First of all great video..... couple of questions sorry... first of all would it be the same procedure for a 2002 S430??? would I be able to take the spark plugs out by hand, without that air machine??? and last what kind of spark plugs would you recommend me putting???
on the coil packs everyone i have a 2002 benz s 430 it is t25 bolt not t30 as mention in the video you do need the special benz tool with 45 degree angle 3/8 extension and silicone spray for spark plug wire a small amount of anti seize on new plugs your good to go
@djrafa1 Yeah that tool helps a ton. I wouldn't want to do this job without it. The plug boot seems to melt onto the plug making it a pain to take off. This tool give you the leverage to take them off.
Thank you for such a great video. You refer to a T30 tool needed, what would I have to order to get one Online? I would need the 3/8 socket type to fit my wrench...:)
I bought spark plug wires from advance auto parts(car quest).part #35-8022.They told me since they are after market it didn't matter how I hooked the wires up!? Since my Mercedes 2000 S500 5.0 shows L and R and their's don't, will it really make a difference? Thanks so much for your video.
I'm thinking about doing this on my 03 S500. The dealer quoted me a price of about $1200. I'll buy the special wrench to help ease the pain. Now the only question I have is how do I measure newton meters. You mentioned tighten to 25 newton meters. Is there a special wrench that I need in order to do this? By the way this is an excellent tutorial.
Yes, you need a "torque wrench," which is a tool that gives you an indication when a bolt or nut is tightened to the correct tightness. You might be able to rent one at an auto parts store or buy one at Home Depot or Sears for $50 - $75.
@LUSRIOS Yes I do. It's a lot of work to do. I would hate for you to get done and a week or month later find out one or two of the wires have gone bad. Which they like to fail. I've fixed many misfires because of bad wires. Check out the link to my blog in the description. I've posted links to the special tool and wires on amazon. The wires are on sale now. Half Off! You'll save $200. I just checked Advance Auto Parts and their over $400 for the same set.
Hello sir, please, you know or can find out what are the steps to follow to replace the MA006 997 01 47 detent that goes where the gear lever executes in the automatic transmission the movements we make with it from inside the cabin. This is one of the URLs where you can see the piece in question www.carid.com/corteco/gear-shift-selector-seal-mpn-006-997-01-47.html You know, I would be very grateful if you could help me. A cordial greeting and I am waiting for your response.
So I assume that these are the steps necessary to change the coilpacks as well? I have some problems with my S500, and I'm starting to suspect that it could be coils or sparkplug related. The shop just changed the accelerator pedal, so I'm going to see if that works tomorrow, but I might try this fix myself if it doesn't help. Anyway, my car has been shaking violently when idling, and in the last week it has started shaking and stuttering while driving, before it flat out dies
I can see why it costs so much to get a S500 service here in Australia. I thought it was one spark plug per cylinder. I didn't think Mercedes Benz used two spark plugs per cylinder on the motor.
+Chase Rangel have a look on Wikipedia and they have it on there. My mother had a 300E Mercedes Benz that they brought new here in Australia that they took delivery at the factory in Dusuldorf in Germaney and it had a timing belt and with a twincam 24 valve 3.0 liter straight 6 motor that redline at 7000 rpm
+Sean Zappulla You know this video we are commenting on is a 1999 to 2005 S500 which means the same motor is used from 99-05 and this is 2 plugs per cylinder. I don't care what you looked up in Wikipedia all you have to do is look at this video to see whoever put the information in Wikipedia is incorrect.
this not good to do 1 you dont have the air tools to do this that has to me torque to the required torque to install the spark plugs 2 if you strip a thread your in serious trouble meaning the strip metal gets in the engine its not worth doing this considering the tools needed and the risk of a strip thread dont do it
sorry to say this but he didnt talk about if the plugs are gaped or not plus some other thing so I don't recommend doing it if ur just basing your work on this vid.. just saying you can really destroy ur motor
Second Never and I mean Never use a impact air wrench or electric impact wrench to Remove or replace spark plugs unless you want to pay 2 or 3 thousand dollars in head work, fuk Mr surgical gloves.

Awesome video!
Do you have a video on replacing the valve cover gasket?
Sounds like a bad crank sensor. Is it when the engine is hot?
clean up mass air flow sensor first, and if it still doesn't help,
then check crankshaft position sensor.
@onDishez I think it is 17mm but it has a special bend in it to hook on to the wire. Check out the link in the video.
Spark plug seal? Usually there is a crush washer on the spark plug.

Do u recommend to chance the wires as well? or when do u chance them?
Good Video.. one thought in mind it would be good to use finder covers so you don't scratch the customers paint. ;)

good video. been workign on a S430 for a friend of mien and it needs a ton work.
One more question - are the Bosch plugs you recommend pre-gapped?
is it necessary to remove the coil packs just to change the spark plugs?
on the coil packs everyone i have a 2002 benz s 430 it is t25 bolt not t30 as mention in the video you do need the special benz tool with 45 degree angle 3/8 extension and silicone spray for spark plug wire a small amount of anti seize on new plugs your good to go

Hey Justin, can you update your Amazon affiliate links so I can use them?
Currently getting ready to do this.
Sure I can do it right now
Fixed
@northbeachfilms No problem. Glad I can help. To say thanks check out the ads on this page.

Torque wrenches usually have inch pounds and newton meters.
Thanks, you just saved me some money.
thanks for making this and posting online. ciao
Someone asked what this procedure would cost if outsourced. A non-dealer shop quoted $500 - obviously mainly labor.

@dpk2inc The special Mercedes tool for pulling off the wires...
@mrtracy123 Glad I could help. If you run into anything while doing it. PM me and I'll try to help as much as possible.
Also, is it possible to do this without the pneumatic tool?
Nice work!

+Sean Zappulla Every Mercedes ever built has 2 plugs per cylinder.

bad mechanics using air tool for a simple spark plug swap .. you blow the thread on the heads its gonna cost you alot of money
Yes sir.
Gd looking out
GREAT VIDEO . . BUT THIS DOES NOT COVER THE 99 MODEL S 500 . . THANKS
i hope you wear ear-protection.... that air-rachet will make you lose your hearing
@zoltec88 If you have a misfire I would. And your already in there I would too. Won't have to do it double and it would be peace of mind.
Thanks a lot for the video:-)
@vizzle206 Will try to make one soon. Subscribe so you will be notified. Thanks.
@allboostnojuice Thanks!
How anyone used this video to replace their spark plugs yet?
How many people have used this video to do it yourself?
Yes they are.
No it isn't.
I got 4 ads in this video. bruh.
sorry to say this but he didnt talk about if the plugs are gaped or not plus some other thing so I don't recommend doing it if ur just basing your work on this vid.. just saying you can really destroy ur motor

That's not an impact wrench lts an air ratchet.
TRUE THAT
I only see is the engine i don't even understand what is he doing if you don't know how to making video don't do it
