I simply cannot get over how beautiful the scores in this film are. They flow like a song, yet they haunt you like a specter in the night...

I allways cry at the ending of this great film, i like the other movie Flag of our fathers. But this was far better, in script and the person you followed were more well human for me. I loved the Genereal Ken watentabe is a pure class actor, loved him in Batman Begins, The Last samurai and Inception. But this role was his by far best one, a general who fought for his country and familiy to his last breath. And the soundtrack is just really touching, and great.

+derkommandent Nova Its ok to cry Because its sad what we humans have done to one another. Its a scary aspect that we have not learned or changed the things that have made us hate and react the way we do. The melody seems to hit home the loss everyone has had and the kind of togetherness that people seem to realize after it is all over.

At the end of this movie back then when the credits rolled... I felt like you listening to this.. tears couldn't stop, and I couldn't figure out what exactly provoked it. The movie touched my feelings but not as much as some other films, but this soundtrack just acted as a kind of emotional bomb to me.. masterpiece of an ost that is.

I watched this movie with a different mindset then most.
I was six years old when i boarded a C-130 at Yokota Air Base outside of Tokyo and flew to a small island in the Pacific. An island named Iwo Jima.
I walked the sands, climbed Mt Surabachi, and saw the battlefield with my own eyes.
37 years later i still remember...

All war is hell. Bloody hell. Read Unbroken, the true story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner in the 1936 Olympics and then his plane gets shot down; he's on a raft in the Pacific with two survivors for more than 40 days, fighting off sharks; then he's a prisoner of war on a Japanese island. Truth be told, not all the Japanese who ran the camps were evil, but there was one who was. They called him the Bird. Many camps exterminated the POW's. In one case, 5,000 Koreans (there was no North or South Korea) were murdered. The Geneva Convention was a joke. The prisoners were starved and beaten. Very few talked about what was done to them when they returned to the U.S. They were broken and had PTSD, but there was poor treatment available. Also, the Japanese rampaged, murdered, raped, beheaded 200,000 Chinese before they bombed Pearl Harbor and 2400 Americans were killed that day, Dec. 7, 1941. In sum, no nation is perfect, obviously. But all nations at some point must be held accountable for their dastardly deeds and cruel and inhumane treatment of their fellow man. Before the 2 horrific bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the Americans, a "kill all" order had been issued. In other words, thousands of POW's would have been exterminated. Additionally, the Japanese starved their own people who were forced into military service in many cases.

my grandfather was a chinese soldier. i had heard a story about my grandfather coming across japanese POWs who were drafted and didn't want to fight, and he felt great sympathy for them. but i never knew him, and being chinese-american, i had a very hard time understanding the japanese perspective. i feel like this movie really showed me what my grandfather was wise enough to see by himself
