1976 was the year that introduced me to Formula1 and then hooked me the 12 year old me on it. Being British I cheered for James Hunt but, secretly, I preferred Nikki Lauda. I thought he was a much more complete driver. I wonder if Hunt would have won the championship that year if Lauda hadn't had that horrendous crash, I suspect not. Many years later I was fortunate enough to meet Lauda at Silverstone. I was just one person in the crowd so didn't get to chat but I said Hi and he nodded at me. Not much but it made my day. When you see this film you have to respect the guys who strapped themselves into what were essentially bombs and tried to make them go as fast as they could. I have been fortunate enough to drive an open wheel racing car. It was one of best experiences of my life and at the same time the worst. Best because .... Just WOW! Worst because it teaches you how hard these things are to drive and I realised I'd never be good enough to drive an F1 car.
@@ppm234 yeah I'd like to know more too being a new and recent F1 fan how do the eras and drivers compare? Of course they are faster and safer now but are they more fun than in 76?
@@ppm234 I still like F1 even today. It helps that I like Hamilton, met him a couple of times - very nice guy. F1 now is much more of a rounded team sport the driver is just one part of the team. Agreed. I've seen it about a dozen times and I feel the same. The 70's and 80's were the best in F1, imo. I still sorta kinda follow it today but it doesn't grab me near as hard as it did back then. Of course, being Canadian, Villeneuve's death took the wind out of my sails and when Senna died, well, that just about ended it for me. Just didn't have the enthusiasm much after that.

Simply put: People love this movie, Men and Women. However, us Men in particular love this movie and this particular soundtrack so much because it speaks to our Inner Masculinity. In relation to Brotherhood, to Competition, to Honor, to Mutual and Recognized Respect, to the greatest Rivalries that later become the greatest Friendships, the desire to be The VERY Best and impose your will upon the world with your own two hands, might, heart, and mind despite what anyone else believes as long as you wholeheartedly believe in yourself! It's the essence of Our Masculine Souls with a perfect visual and auditory encapsulation on the Silver Screen. A Perfect Man's Movie! That's why we love this! And this particular soundtrack encapsulates the Masculine Mood. For those who were wondering why, but couldn't quite put your finger on it. It's the embodiment of the Masculine Experience. Unique to Men. The same way the Feminine Experience in this world is unique to Women, the Masculine Experience in this world is unique to Men. I'm sure women have a similar experience with a film, or films, that speaks deeply to their Femininity. Something that most women would inherently understand.
Twenty five drivers start every season in Formula One, and each year two of us die. What kind of person does a job like this? Not normal men, for sure. Rebels, lunatics, dreamers. People who are that desperate to make a mark, and are prepared to die trying. My name is Niki Lauda, and racing people know me for two things. The first is my rivalry with him. ..... I don't know why it became such a big thing. We were just drivers busting each other's balls. To me this is perfectly normal, but other people saw in differently. That whatever it was between us went deeper. The other thing I'm remembered for is what happened on 1st August 1976, when I was chasing him like an asshole... - NIKI LAUDA
Terribly underappreciated movie and score. Absolutely flawless from start to finish with none of the excessive melodrama and hijinks that normally surround sports movie, especially racing movies. This is Ron Howard's finest film. Not the terrible Robert Langdon movies. And I have no words for Hans Zimmer. He is what he is. Brilliant.
i swear the emotions here in this movie, specifically in the last race, with this music is just amazing..... i cant jus describe it in words. this is the movie that made me a f1 fan, thank you so much Rush, the way the intense rivalry between Hunt and Lauda is shown is just epic. I still watch sometimes on Netflix, I guess I already watched it more than 200 times, still, I don't get bored. way better than any racing movies. this movie deserves oscar.

this movie is very underrated and its amazing by the story which is impactful and incredibly told. it was directed by an oscar winner ron howard and the performances of "thor" chris hemsworth and daniel bruhl were incredible. daniel bruhl should have gotten an oscar nomination for this movie but unfortunately he didnt. hans zimmer as always scores such epic and amazing music like this one. every time i hear i imagine myself in the future behind the wheel of dodge viper just speeding down the road 200 mph feeling the wind in my hair. it gives me chills. i am happy zimmer is returning to score BvS
Hans Zimmer is a god among men - I have no idea how someone can in their mind create music from scratch that encapsulates feelings, themes and emotions. Rush is probably not the first movie people think of when they think of Hans but this is my favourite work of his and this comes from someone who also loves The Dark Knight triology, Gladiator, Dunkirk, Inception and Interstellar among others. His body of work is incredible and just about everything he's done with Nolan has been masterful IMO.
Inspires me. This got me up on my feet when I was fallen down. When I was just crying and thought I have nothing left in my life after my own lovely and closest friends back stabbed me. This made me feel I'm bigger than all of them and a lot better than what I think I am. I don't need those idiots to define me. I alone am enough to face anything. Thank you Sir, Hans Zimmer. A wise man gets more from his enemies than a fool from his friends.' And you know what? He was right. Look at us. We were both a pair of kids when we met. Hot-headed jerks in Formula 3. Many years before I introduced Hans Zimmer to her, she had already developed a profound admiration for Hans Zimmer's music. She shared with me her deep affection for his compositions, such as those from "Interstellar," which she frequently enjoyed in solitude. Today she introduced me to this soundtrack, I hadn't listened before I don't know how, it's so beautiful, so yeah "Lost But Won" indeed for me.
"lost but won" is not just a song. It is a philosophy in life. Sometimes we feel that we are at a juncture in life where everything seems uncertain. Everything seems lost. We feel that nothing is working in our favour. But it is when you are truly lost you find a version of yourself that teaches you something about yourself. You realise that there have been many before you and there will be many after you but there will be nobody like you. When you feel lost, don't despair, because that is when you have truly found yourself. And when you have found your true self, when you actually find what lengths you are capable of scaling despite falling, failing and "losing", you have not failed but actually won. There cannot be a greater win in life than finding your true self. And you, have not lost, but won.

In 1976 I was 9 years old and I remember the moment (1st August) when the news of Lauda's heavy crash turned around the world; I was terribly distraught. So I speak from having lived all firsthand. Not all the races were broadcasted on TV, but those who were broadcasted I saw them all and I can assure you that Ron Howards movie is the best ever made in terms of fidelity to details, dynamics of the race and characters of the protagonists.

do not compare F&F and Rush - one is CREATED story inspired by illegal races in USA made for fun, other was made to share the very touching TRUE story of Niki Lauda and his rivalry with James Hunt.
@keagan snow Also, F&F was never meant to be serious. From the start, it was silly and ridiculous with little touches of seriousness to keep the movie from being an outright comedy. Rush would better be compared to a movie like Hacksaw Ridge. They're entirely different stories, but the core of them is the same. They're about one man, a legend, who was determined to succeed in his field by any means necessary
These 2 reckless drivers, disowned by their families, risking their lives each day showed us no matter how strong is the rivalry but the respect always comes First ❤️. Will be in our hearts forever, respect for both the legends ❤️👑

Bro you're old what do you think of modern f1
@@ppm234 yeah I'd like to know more too being a new and recent F1 fan how do the eras and drivers compare? Of course they are faster and safer now but are they more fun than in 76?
@@lakshyamongia3270 It's different today. It's more polished and not as gritty. I still enjoy it though.
@@ppm234 I still like F1 even today. It helps that I like Hamilton, met him a couple of times - very nice guy. F1 now is much more of a rounded team sport the driver is just one part of the team. Simply put:
People love this movie, Men and Women.

Twenty five drivers start every season in Formula One, and each year two
of us die. What kind of person does a job like this? Not normal men,
for sure. Rebels, lunatics, dreamers. People who are that desperate to
make a mark, and are prepared to die trying. My name is Niki Lauda, and
racing people know me for two things. The first is my rivalry with him.
.....
I don't know why it became such a big thing. We were just drivers
busting each other's balls. To me this is perfectly normal, but other
people saw in differently. That whatever it was between us went deeper.

Niki Lauda:" 'That bastard Hunt,' I would say. 'I hate that guy.' And then one day, the doctor came and said, 'Mr. Lauda, may I offer a piece of advice? Stop thinking of it as a curse to have been given an enemy in life. It can be a blessing, too. A wise man gets more from his enemies than a fool from his friends.' And you know what? He was right. Look at us. We were both a pair of kids when we met. Hot-headed jerks in Formula 3. Disowned by our families. Headed nowhere. And now, we're both champions of the world. It was not bad, huh?"
James Hunt: "No, it's not bad."
Niki Lauda: "So don't let me down now. I need you busting my balls. Get back to work."

Niki Lauda: "Of course he didn't listen to me. For James, one world title was enough. He had proved what he needed to prove. To himself and anyone who doubted him. And two years later, he retired. When I saw him next in London, seven years later, me as a champion again, him as broadcaster, he was barefoot on a bicycle with a flat tire, still living each day like his last. When I heard he died age 45 of a heart attack, I wasn't surprised. I was just sad. People always think of us as rivals but he was among the very few I liked and even fewer that I respected.
