In theory, larger monsters *did* have less health in that game though.

That is precisely what it is. You use your abilities at your disposal to equalize yourself to the natural gods and demons that these monsters are.
Eventually, you either learn specific monsters so well or get good enough to where you are straight hunting them with raw ability and they are more so running from you or being pinned down by your might for most of the fight rather than the other way around.
You fight your way to power here, and the growth itself isn't from numbers alone, there are no levels or exp. It all comes from you as the player and what gear you rock is all personalized. What's powerful is not necessarily your character, but you at the end of the day. Very rewarding skill-based game. Remember, you only lose when you STAY down.

Teostra in FU is an absolute b*tch. Jumps around 99% of the time, and throws magnets on you while airborne so that when he spams the sodding tackles, they always chase you instead of going in a straight line. Also instant animations. Triggers my PTSD.

Ahh the good old days back then when i was in school. This was my first Mh Game and i think the biggest thrill i had from it was the fact that you feel like a little fragile Human just fighting these dangerous Monsters that are just stronger and better than you in any way. If you did not know what the monster could do or how it attacks you had to kinda study and remember it moveset, where to stand and when to heal bc you can't move while doing so and when you do..the charackter OBVIOUSLY had to finish it off with an animation if the monster was charging at you or not xD. Was a lot of fun sitting together with 2 friends after school and play through this insane game together. Newer players should try it out after maybe playing Generations Ultimate, Tri and/or 4U. It's good but it gives you less opportunities compared to the newer games but i mean...it's from 2008. There will be frustrating moments, there will be moments where you ask yourselfe "how did that hit me?" but trust me..don't panic, there is always a way around. I'm sure you can handle it and i wish alot of love to the Monster Hunter community and our new players
