  • Mopar 360 Built Part 7 - Time to fire up our freshly build Mopar 360 and see if she will run, and hopefully break-in the cam. This is a hydraulic flat tappet cam, and those have a decently high risk of failing on break-in. This video covers the work leading up to the first start, the cam break-in, and discussion of all the issues we ran into. This is the original small block MOPAR engine from the 1974 Plymouth Duster I am building.
    This is part of our 360 beginner engine build series, so if you haven't seen that and want more of the details on the engine, be sure to go check that out.
    Dust or Bust is a beginner hot-rodding channel. I am a beginner and I make videos to help and inspire other beginners, so we can keep more awesome classic cars on the road.

    Using the K-frame as a run stand is brilliant and a great example of why you pre lube the engine with a drill, sucks to break it down again but would have really sucked if you drove the car, good job guys.

      Thanks Mike! I appreciate it Sir! Yes, definitely good that we caught the issue early. Installing under the car via K frame was your idea I am pretty sure, you recommended it a while back when I put the K frame in the car. Thanks for staying with me, I appreciate the support and tips!!👍

    FelPro 1008. Done. Coppers will almost always leak. If you need to go with something thinner, then go with Cometic MLS gaskets. You can get them in almost any thickness you want. Sounds pretty good, though! Keep at it!

    Should get those rpms up as soon as it starts. Timing can be roughly set. If there is any problems like leaks or misfiring you can just shut it down. Your buddy must be a novice. The only time you should this is with a roller cam. Glad to see your progress, just don’t want to see it go boom. Good luck with it. I have tried to follow this build, but you know life gets in the way. My 360 at this point is going on 2 years and has taken a backseat multiple times with all my other projects. Hope yours will be good for years to come!

    It sounds awesome! Those are very odd head gaskets. Not something I’d have felt comfortable using. Also, you can only use a head gasket (or any gasket really) once. Once you crush it, it’s used. Keep grinding, looking forward to seeing the progress!

    Marcos, excellent video! There are two plugs on the sides of the block (down by the motor mounts) that if you pull them it will drain the block so that when you pull the heads it will not have any water left to leak out.

    Have the difference of the new head gaskets milled off the heads. Then you know the heads are flat And don't lose any compression.

    • @DustorBust
      @DustorBust  2 года назад

      Hey Dan! Good idea. I am picking up the heads tomorrow. I just asked for them to make it flat, I will find out how much they had to take it down. Gasket difference is about. .018, so not too major, it'll probably be close. I will probably go ahead and cc the heads just to know for sure. Thanks for following the build!!

      What's up B Dubs! I actually had a set of these, and when I sent to put them on one of them was so stuck in the packaging that I ended up bending it taking it out. sounds stupid saying it, but it was really stuck in there.
