Currently working on: Jagged Alliance 2 (this is gonna own), "intro to classic Fallout and a tier list," Mechwarrior 2: Mercs (a funny script I keep delaying), Marauder / Man of Prey (very political, this channel is gonna become the SPLC of Eurasia).
    Nevada DL link: www.mediafire.com/file/nqfrkb5fllbpqx4/%255Bcon%255D_F2_Nevada_Mod_%2528Extended%2529_HD_%255Bv2.0.3.3%255D.exe/file
This is not the version I used, but it should have English. If the link doesn't work, please comment. If you are a Patron, the mod is backed up on Ghostgate.

Fallout Sonora is beautiful and accurate to the Sonoran Desert. I have lived here my entire life and I was blown away by how accurate the map was and how creative the story was. Definitely loved that Tucson was turned into Two Sun after the apocalypse. I would love to see a dedicated game to this area of the United States because it truly is different and has its oddities.

Fallout: Nevada is great because it takes a lot of design ideas from modern Fallout like Vegas and 3: Easy start, designing quests with multiple builds in mind rather than character types, early weapons for all types, and cap skill checks that are visible. It's the most modern old Fallout.

Fallout: Nevada just nails the esthetic and tone of Fallout things like that Dr.Strange reference are on point its amazing that it was made by someone born on other side of the planet. I am fascinated by Fallout's cult following in Russia so much of Fallout's schtick is its very American 1950s 'world of tomorrow' esthetic it surprises me that it has any appeal to a Russian audience. That's because we had a very similar vision of the future back then, and it was reflected especially well in kids' media (see Kir Bulychev's "Mystery of the Third Planet" cartoon, for example). So Soviet (and by extension Russian) children had their own Jetsons, and our counties also share the cold war nuclear dread - all the ingredients from Fallout's recipe of success.

Imagine taking a chunk of Russia and/or Ukraine, getting actual towns, and making a Fallout game set in that area. That said, as someone who lived in real Reno and had family who lived in some of these actual towns, the attention to detail and design is quite incredible. The only issue would be the Cheyanne which are common further east in Oklahoma and Kansas. The big tribal nations in this area are the Shoshone.

If you search up ‘Grizzly suit guy’ on YT, you’ll be directed to a video about a guy who made a bear proof suit that can withstand getting rammed by a truck and hit with a log. The suit itself is big, bulky and a few people in the comments of that video have pointed out it looks like power armor.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that was were the dev got the name for suit as both of them have this homemade look to them and the game also has a few references to RE and pop culture.

I mean, it could be (kinda) possible that Las Vegas could’ve been the way it was depicted here before the events of New Vegas. That ending slide saying that the factions of Vegas fought a civil war which lasted many years could be the “cannon” ending. Here’s my theory: Vegas survives the war because of Mr. House’ defenses, after House is taken offline and put in a coma, the survivors of Vegas band together to re-establish Vegas the way that it was for the new world. But after the events of Nevada, the civil war breaks out between the factions of the city. After years of brutal fighting, Vegas is now truly a ruin. What’s left of the people of Vegas lose all sense of community and fraction into small tribes. These tribes over the coming decades expand, prosper, contract, die, and fight one another. Until by the 2270s all that are left are the tribes that would eventually become the families of the Strip. I’m no New Vegas loremaster so I don’t know how well it fits into established cannon, but that’s what I believe so far.

8:07 "This is the second and the last time the whistle is actually used in this game"
It sounds like you're thinking that whistle is only contextually usable. Not the case, you can use it whenever you want, and most animals will be affected by it. Using the whistle in conjunction with traps is an excellent way of dealing with weaker enemies like rats, as it provides good exp -- more then you get from kills, and you can even get both, assuming you can get the trap to trigger while in combat mode (although it's tricky as it requires the enemy to end turn on the trapped tile, not just move through it).
Speaking of new and mechanics that are also easy to miss -- you didn't mention the metal detector. You can get it during the quest to infiltrate the Hawthorne base, but it can be used anywhere. And not just to detect mines, but also find buried caches. Interestingly, the latter also requires an outdoorsman skill check. I thought it's worth mentioning as it's one of the ways Nevada is making unpopular skills more useful. By the way, outdoorsman is also useful for campfire crafting, one of the weird similarities the game has with New Vegas (is this this one coincidental as well?).

What it can not possibly convey, is the amount of work that went into side-quests, and unmarked "quests". Without a guide, you will likely only find a fraction of the alternative solutions, or things to do and discover in general. The worst part, what I'm sure you've experienced, is that no one can really tell you whats going to happen and when you'll get better because so little is known. Just know that you're not alone and for what it's worth I'm proud of you for keeping up the fight.

The fallout games and by extension their mods seem to fixate a lot on immortality and characters that have lived a long time. Though the setting itself seems to almost neuter their potential, when they aren't just played as villains or curiosities their goal is usually to seize power and create a society of their own design. Since post apocalyptic society has regressed both socially and technologically their perspectives are those of people who still remember the pre war period. Which in fallout was very nearly approaching a technological singularity/runaway with actual artificial general intelligence and fully automated self sustaining labor.
If House or Reaper did manage to rebuild and bring technological advance back to the pre war level they would probably face alienation from a world that has begun to advance socially and technologically at an exponential level. They may be smart, or very smart, but they are still just human beings, could they even hold onto power in a world with machine superintelligences and humans enhanced through genetic or biomechanical means? They might end up being tragic figures. After another couple hundred years they would be alone, in a world they cannot truly comprehend and among people and machines whos thought processes are completely alien to them. Maybe they would be satisfied knowing that the total annihilation of humanity was averted, and they are just sticking around to see how things turn out.
To the people of the new world they might just be a pitiable relic. Things out of time, kept around maybe out of a sense of quiet gratitude or empathy. Ideas that, maybe not in the scope of fallout, but I do wish were explored by other games.

    • @WretchedRedoran
      @WretchedRedoran 2 года назад +12

Agreed. You, what you speak of kinda reminds me of a quote from Fallout 3:
_"Did you ever try to put a broken piece of glass back together? Even if the pieces fit, you can’t make it whole again the way it was. But if you’re clever, you can still use the pieces to make other useful things. Maybe even something wonderful, like a mosaic. Well, the world broke just like glass. And everyone’s trying to put it back together like it was, but it’ll never come together in the same way."_ *_-Moira Brown_*
Something about that quote stuck out to me. I can't quite place my finger on why, though. Hell, might just be because of how different it feels to the rest of the writing in 3. Who knows.

Great video, glad to see a narrative review of the game. I love this mod despite its weaker main story, I didn’t read the design documents but it did seem like a few things were cleared up with you. I think the big issue with Nevada is that it’s main story just sorta falls into the background of an otherwise very open world sandbox RPG. I did all of the quests in Reno, was like 20 hours and then I was like “oh yeah, Jay….” But I spent my time with the metal detector and got cool hidden gear like a golden poker chip that gave like +60% gambling skill. I did all the Nuka plant quests, found a lot of special encounters, made uranium City get owned by Mr. Wright’s ancestor from Fallout 2, got the truck, and also went unarmed and got the power fist from the guy you beat in BlackRock. After you beat him you can buy a power fist for 3k, like in the first 2 hours you can have it and I kept it until the bikers upgraded it to a mark 2!!!! Your version looks cool tho with the dedicated amulet slot lol. Overall loved this mod and your video.

Hey Warlockracy, love any content about Nevada, saw that ramblelime video, missed that Keyboard Gecko one, so thanks for bringing it up.
As you said, the main quest is very weak, but the game has some very interesting details that make it for me. The first is that small quest in New Reno about a lover turned ghoul. The second is Area 51, which is PERFECT without an explanation (the inside of the bunker), because - for me at least - it's the perfect post-apocalypse kinda "urbex" dungeon. Yes, it's there. Yes, you can creep through it. Yes, you can find interesting technology there. Want some background on it? Only environmental storytelling. This takes me to my first visit of Vault 15 in F1 or the bunker in Toxic Caves in F2. Forces imagination to put the pieces in place.
The third is that special encounter with the ring of flowers. The fourth is returning to Gerlach after endgame and after sending the villagers to Vault City.
And the final and best one are the "Silence" encounters around Salt Lake City. These struck me hard as fuck, as I was unsure what am I supposed to expect there, and that is where the environmental storytelling hits best, 10/10 material.
PS. Almost forgot about that Ely Gorebinski guy in Vault City.

To me nothing beats playing it no matter the language, Nevada is already available and the game itself plays better than the OGs both in terms of quest design (borrowing from F3 and FNV) and pacing since everything is optional and the main quest isnt really the focus. Thank you for the video. Helped me a lot to remember what happened in this game. Funny enough, I couldn't remember a large portion of the main plot, but some features just stuck in my head. Exploration of secret military bases and stations, using a metal detector to find cool items, looking for car and power armor components. I can even remember consumables from that game, like sandwiches and booze and expired painkillers, which permanently lower your health, but heal you like a stimpack. There is also a really great side quest in Shayenne. You need to do a surgery on a young boy. In order to do that, first the shaman checks your competence based not on your medical skill, but on your answers to his questions. Like, he shows you a point scar on his belly and you tell him that it's from a bullet and in which organ you think the bullet landed and why is he not dead. After that you need to collect various items for the surgery (anesthesia and surgical instruments, I believe). And if you didn't find all of them, you could perform the operation, while improvising, for example using alcohol as a painkiller. At the end you're rewarded with amount of XP, depending on the success of the operation and a satisfying notice that the boy is gonna be ok or even better. I really liked that game and I appreciate that you make content like this. Thanks again.

There were also little things. Like a random encounter, when you're are driving through the desert and see a hitchhiker without pants, who asks you to drop him in Vegas. Pretty funny dialogue, a bit low-minded though. Also you could become a pizza delivery guy in Vegas, which doesn't sound like much, but actually decently interesting, when you think, how you should talk to the clients. I believe you could even help a lady on the Strip to fix her food cart for a couple of sandwiches. Those little things made the experience very pleasant. Not every game now could do that.
