- We have an epic swordfishing trip catching 6 in one day! One of the swordfish escaped before though and has a heavy monofilament loop around him! The line cut into his body and his skin grew around it! I believe it was some old commercial long line gear. Back at home we cook up some KOW steaks and some fresh swordfish!

Only been watching your video`s for a couple month`s now, but you have turned me into an addict. Can`t wait to wake up and get them on. Watched everyone at least twice now. As a kid back in the late fifties and early sixties lived in Miami and I and family fished at Islamorada and Key Largo at Gilberts with the Late Capt. Bill Knowles ,had some great times back then. Never caught a Swordfish, But back then we caught many a huge Dolphin aka Mahi .Never forget the time Captain Knowles got all over my butt for falling a sleep in the fighting chair and a huge Marlin hit and I MISSED IT. He said to me if I was going to fall to sleep damn it ,let your Dad fish in it. His exact words never will forget that .I`m 75 now ,some really good memories.

That's what I call a epic fishing trip! To catch 6 swordfish in one day they must be plentiful in that area, or you were in the right place at the right time.
That's a pretty good friend to be trading a wagyu steak!
A very good fishing day out in the deep. I feel you helped the fish out in the long run, as the mono was cutting deeper as its girth increased growing older. Nick, gonna have to pull out your notebook on "exciting things to say" as Holy Moley was wearing thin towards the end...lol.

Good point about how it is much better not to fillet a fish like this immediately. It is a very common misconception that immediate filleting to get the freshest fish is best. Much better to immediately bleed, gut and ice the fish for at least a day before filleting.

That one sword looks like someone caught it before, and used that line to drag it into the boat, and naturally, the line broke, leaving it scared for life. I can only imagine what the other swords were saying. They can be so mean 🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🥺

Nick I want to tell you about TJ. He had an abusive father who would leave him at the trailer behind Jacks bait and tackle now Ricks without any food. He turned to fishing to feed himself. His father would beat on him till one night he tried it but TJ was sharpening his fillet knife and almost cut off his fathers finger. He has turned out alright thank God. It is good to see him all grown up.
I’ll bet the swordfish with mono got wrapped up in a line and cinched himself before it broke or was cut loose. Definitely had that line on for a long time to do that.

How plentiful are swordfish? Seems like you catch a quite a few in a similar size range and I was wondering if there’s any specific reason for that or just a coincidence.
We have a healthy population of swordfish for sure. The more research we do the more we understand and getter a better idea though

I just currently offer swordfish trips , and we can try to catch other fish on the way in and out
