- This song was popular & a #1 hit in 1964. I added the lyrics and guitar tabs and what year the albums were released.
Here's a link to my 32nd video of this song I made with the pitch lowered to -4.
• 32.) 4 Pennies Juliet ...
Glad I lived in those times the music was amazing unlike the rubbish of today
So many good groups and hits in the 60s, unlike the rubbish we have today.
We contracted this group before they hit the charts and they came all the way down to Pembrokeshire to perform in our youth club, what a brilliant bargain we had. I met my wife at that performance and we have now been married 51 years, what a lovely memory
Oh God, just went in a time machine. Music is so powerful
A great song and singer.
When I first heard this as young child I wanted to learn to play guitar! That superb intro on the semi acoutic is awesome! My late parents got me guitar lessons and I became that guitarist - Thank you mum and dad and the Four Pennies. Now my partners name is..........YEP you got it!!!
I've never heard of this group until now.
Such a beautiful song and so very well performed,a day when songs had meaning and you could hear every word unlike todays rubbish.
The music of the 60s was the best!
I love this song. I'm so glad I had my.youth in the 60s and wouldn't change a thing .
🖤
Lovely song . Outstanding pirformance. Good group all the best lads. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
I worked for their Manager in an office just inside Salford. The sweet actress Julia Foster (who later became Ben Fogel 's mum) popped in occasionally with hubby Lionel Morton. Lovely lads. Happy days.
I had this 45! It didn't make #1 in the US and I only hear it if I find it among my music. This just popped up when I was looking for something else. Nice surprise.
This was my favorite song in the early sixties.
best song of 64 bought it
One of Blackburn's best exports 😊
Who is Blackburn?
@@Tekno5_Official Blackburn is the city the Four Pennies hailed from.
@@Selvikus Thank you.
Still got my copy played it to death
Lovely song a well deserved number one
Lovely song
Really, really nice song.Don't make them like that anymore.
so glad I was a teen in the 60,s fantastic memories
I was about four and knew every word and sang it to my family so many many times lol four didn’t even know what the words meant
My song from my dad. Stanley James Tonge.
fantastic sixties
Strange seeing Lionel Morton here. I remember watching him present Play School when I was a nipper. Must be some 50 years ago now!
Lionel was in fine voice.
I grew up with juliet my kids grew up with Lionel morton ( lead singer four pennies) presenting playschool lol
Sorry to one up you, but Mike wilshaw is my uncle. The blonde guitarist
On this day in 1964 {May 1st} the Four Pennies performed "Juliet" on the British ITV network television program, 'Ready Steady Go!'....
At the time the song was at position #12 on the United Kingdom's Official Top 50 Singles chart, three weeks later it would peak at #1 {for 1 week} and it spent fifteen weeks on the Top 50...
Between 1964 and 1966 the Blackburn quartet had six records on the U.K. Singles chart, with the above "Juliet" being their only Top 10 record...
They had two Top 20 records, "I Found Out The Hard Way" {#14 in 1964} and "Until It's Time For You To Go" {#19 in 1965}...
Plus the Leadbelly song. Black girl which reached number twenty
0:48 Always thought the drummer looked like a puppet from Thunderbirds. Lead singer Lionel Morton, as seen on Play school.
And to think, the lead singer went on to present Play School in the 70s.
Great song but I have no memories of it and I was a teenager in the 60s
According to the 1964 original sheet music it goes, There was a love F,I knew before GM7,she broke my heart C,left me unsure Bb,Ju, Am li,Dm et ,Gm-C7 etc
The recording of the song is a half step higher than the actual sheet music so the chords in this video are technically correct as you say it's F but in reality it's F# or Gb then to Abm or G#m or as you say Gm.
no the recording is actually a half step lower from G major but yes it's f sharp or g flat but the progression both of your guys chord progressions are wrong.
silver blades ici ring in Birmingham wit Joan Hatfield lover times
This must have been a regional song because it was not played on the east coast..
I got the chords from (Riffstation.com) Type "The Four Pennies Juliet" and click on the 2nd video.
Update: It looks like the link to this site is no longer available. The link now goes to a different site. You can still download Riffstation from here www.filehorse.com/download-riffstation/download/. This download is free. There are other alternatives to this site. I use Chordify, GuitarTuna, and Pro Guitar Tuner. All of these apps are available to download on iOS and Android devices. You can also use these apps on any computer.
The chords seem weird, never heard of any pop song sung in G flat major, G major is what they are playing...
It is coming out in Gb , but some of those chords shown are incorrect. The Gb augmented isn’t shown
Too bad they were not part of the British Invasion. They are great.
do you know what this was originally from? Also I uploaded a different music video of this here if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/avhHT6hEtiQ/видео.htmlm25s

What is john croasdale on about? Is he on a day release?
stop walking around your making me dizzy.
We all know, (or should at least because we are passing judgement), the lads were told " to walk round"; - They most likely thought it stupid, but their "elders & betters" of T.V. land told them to do so. It was their 1st. record and a hit, different to ANYTHING of that time. I was in a trio back in the day playing a very big club and was asked if we could "run on stage" with guitars and start singing. I was the leader of the group, and said "No", we don't do that ! But that was just a big club and I was my/our own boss, had it been national television, I'm not sure what I would have said. Probably, to Harry and Eamon's horror, I would have said "No", but that's just me. I don't blame the lads at all. Pity they didn't go a lot further, they had the talent and ability! I'm just in the process of multitracking the harmonies and will sing it at karaoke this weekend. - A blast from the past, - and it will go down a bomb i'm sure!
Great song, great performance but they were caked in so much greasepaint they looked like a bunch of ponces..:)
And that was their fault?????
very dated
Saw them the last night they ever performed at the Starlight Club near Blackburn with my girlfriend. Been married to her for 52 years I am 76 years of age still love all these great bands.
My mum used to play this. I'm from Accy
Saw them in 1964 at the Kings Hall Stoke on Trent with my girlfriend, now my wife of 52 years. They announced this song as tribute to a band members daughter, it had just been released and we heard it then for the first time. Played live it was beautiful. (I'm 74.) DL .Staffordshire. UK
Congratulations to you both for 52 years of marriage. I still love these songs of the sixties too, such glorious memories. Deanne (73) widowed unfortunately.

Wow I never heard of this band before.. they are good ! and my name is Juliette ;) I'm a huge fan of the Beatles, they give off the same vibe (even if the Beatles are much better I'm sorry). but this song is beautiful ! i will definitely check out more songs of them
So many good memories of the 60's. Still like all the sounds today.
I was 13 and I thought I was in love when came out 59 years ago. I heard it recently on Amazon and remembered every word. Times were simpler then and it was good to be alive. Time has taught me that life's a bitch then you die. However it's nice to be reminded of innocent ignorance.
I was named after this song.
These great guys are from my home town Blackburn lancs. They used to practise in Reidys music shop on penny st. In Blackburn, one of my classmates had a sister that used to go out with Alan Buck
One of my 60's favourites. My mother loved it also. It was so different to everything at the time. Pity it was so short.
Robert Jamison
It’s magic was the short length
Love this song at the time this song was in the charts in 1965 I was 2 1/2 years old, I have this song on vinyl of which my late mum bought then.

Wasn’t Ray lead guitarist who played with the group on the television show unforgettables
