The day I found out I have cancer I played this song and it brought me to tears, looking out the hospital window I felt so strange, didn't feel like I was really here, but my cancer doctor said the cancer I have don't need to be treated, he said since you're not losing any weight and you look healthy he'll just eye on it and to take care of myself until my next visit, by the way I have CLL LEUKEMIA, if you know about that you know I'm good, GOD IS GREAT, PRAISE HIS HOLINESS!
1980 8th grade, feathered hair lee jeans and a comb in your back pocket. Roller skating ,going to the pool hall and hanging out with friends . Our town had church picnics with cold beer perogies , burgers in sauce and the bands were rocking. Interest in girls spiked and we chased them nonstop. It was a great time to be alive. Our grandparents were still alive and so were our parents. Now we’re in aw as 50s is the norm for 80s kids . We’re getting gray and now the grandparents. Ugh I hate it. Being 50 plus sucks when my sole feels only 35.
Every word of your comment fits exactly how I have been feeling as of late! The comb was so important to have it all times. We had to keep combing back the feathers. Us girls would keep a comb in our stock if we weren't with a purse in Junior High
I was in grade 8 too. Beginning of an awesome decade. Such a great time growing up. I remember the trends- rollerskates, I did the feathered hair too, and comb in the back pocket. It used to wear a hole in the pocket. I thought the feathers were a good look at the time. Back when there was a lot of hair to work with. I used hairspray to keep it in place. "The Dry Look" by Gillette. Made it feel stiff and crunchy, lol. Loved being with my parents and grandparents too. So many good times together. That's mostly all gone now. Memories of better times for sure. I do feel much younger too, but our bodies have other ideas, and mostly not good ones either.
Thank you Nina Blackwood, for playing this song at the right times a few months ago on the 80s on 8. I'd forgotten all about this song and now I can't stop it from playing in my head.
It jams in my head too. Love it! I think I had the 45 back when it was new and I was 15. It never occurred to me that one day it (and I) would be an Oldie!
I've heard Smokeys version but THIS gem by Kim Karnes just sits in a category all its own. That sultry voice( coupled with that gorgeous smile and blonde hair) , the arrangement and that sexy sax make this an unforgettable timeless classic.
Rocking down I-10 toward San Antonio in my VW Beetle during the summer of 1980, this song blasting on the radio, one of those unforgettable moments when everything just comes together correctly.
Fun story about this actually. Smokey loved Kim's version of this song so much that he decided to write a song for her - Being with You. He was talked into keeping it for himself and it became a huge hit for him, and had a long run at # 2 on the charts. And, the song it couldn't make it past to be #1? Kim Carnes's Bette Davis Eyes!
A year later, Kim Carnes hit the jackpot with "Bette Davis Eyes", one of those songs I DETESTED upon first hearing it, but grew to like it more with time. Just imagine in the Summer of '81 alone, there was "Bette Davis Eyes" Christopher Cross "Arthur's Theme" (The Best That You Can Do), Diana Ross "Endless Love", REO Speedwagon "Keep On Loving You". Talk about fully loaded !
@@maha77 I still listen to this song everyday, like a ritual. But I also wish I could live in a day in the 80s and hear this song for the very first time. Must be an experience
Before " Betty Davis Eyes", there was this awesome song. My personal favorite. I think I wore the "45" out! Lol. What a beautiful earthy , gritty voice! I found her quite beautiful too! I remember her singing this song on American Bandstand. I was in early high school at the time. Another great memory! ( I feel quite lucky ).
Love this tune and it still sounds good on oldies radio but this video is hysterical, the physical comedy alone distinguishes it from so many other videos of the past. And what a voice! This is a classic by Kim Carnes.
Your mom was a very special lady in your life 🧬🧬 and I'm so blessed to have got to know her ❤️ with the stories and beautiful memories you have shared with me 💗
She has been my number one fav for 40 frigging years now! she's an amazing, down to earth, lovable, kind and friendly person. I've "known" her since 1993. we've even talked on the phone. She's one of the most under rated artists of the past 40 years. Check out her 13 albums. Every single one is amazing. I still remember the summer of BETTE DAVIS EYES. 40 frigging years later, still my favorite song OF ALL TIME
I was a weekend busboy at a nice restaurant at age 15 back in 1984. They used to play music on the overhead system and I remember this song from that time, even though it was already a few years old by then. I also remember this absolutely smoking hot cocktail waitress who used to bring me cokes with grenadine and a cherry on top. My thoughts were sinful as she smiled and brushed up against me.
I freakin love her version of this song…always have! I remember going out and buying the ‘45 of this song back in 1980. 1980 was an absolutely fantastic year for music by the way. It was that transitory period between the late 70s and early 80s. Anyway, i never knew there was a video of this song until recently! I love the playful tongue in cheeky-ness of it. Very cool. Kim Carnes gave that song a sexy, sultry coolness. It’s definitely her best song imo.
One of the greatest songs of all time, Period. The beginning of the song gives me goosebumps, and really takes you back to the time when this song was playing on the radio in 1980. So great.
