    My daughter was OK one day, ready for university. Got up one day in full blown psychosis accused us of all sorts of abuse. We took her to A & E and she then spent 2 years in hospital. My daughter was strange we religion too she used to say phone a Rabi I am really Jewish etc. She didn't believe we were her parents and demanded DNA tests. It was horrendous - she is still not able to integrate back into the family because of this.

      Only a Mother can care and love their own children, in the way you obviously do. I hope as she ages herself, she will see how much you love and miss her in your life. The love of my life became sick literally overnight as well. It was devastating bc we grew up together and went to college together and knew everything about each other. A couple years after we graduated college one day out of the blue she started acting severely depressed and inconsolable but when she wasn’t in a deep depression & anxious state she was conniving and devious. It was diagnosed as borderline personality disorder along with 3 other diagnoses. She started turning everyone against each other bc for some reason it made her feel better about herself and she ended up driving everyone who loved & cared about her out of her life about 10yrs ago and killed herself shortly afterwards in 2013.

    As someone that has known a few people that have worked in and around both non-criminal and criminal psych-units, two things;
    Don't empathise, you can sympathise, but don't fool yourself into thinking these people think like you. They don't. And they can use that against you.
    Never let them get between you and the exit of the room.

      I think you’re talking about people with narcissistic traits and antisocial personality disorder. Just because someone has mental illness that doesn’t mean they are going to use empathy against others to take advantage. He is talking about very mentally unwell people, and a lot wouldn’t even be capable of taking advantage of others

      I have CPTSD also! Does that stand for a conversion disorder due to PTSD? (I know my med charts say CPTSD, and I also know I have a conversion disorder due to PTSD, so putting two and two together... if it's not that, what is it? I ask because I definitely have cptsd, I have ADHD and anxiety/ mega insomnia diagnoses, so I may be confusing a couple things) if it is the conversion disorder, how does yours present? I get tonic- clonic seizures (i don't ever remember having them, which is good because I guess i stiffen up, fall over, and fall straight back [I'm blacked and passed out so I don't obviously protect my head or self for the fall. It's like playing "stiff as a board", without anyone catching me.] and usually fall on tables/ tvs/ into the corner of walls etc, sounds painful, but like I said I black them out. Then I flop like a fish (I black this out, too) I was diagnosed with epilepsy, and epileptic medications actually cause me to increase in seizure frequency. After a few years of upping and switching and adding medications, I did a week long hospital stay. I had zero epileptic brain waves, so that was ruled out. Are you doing anything to treat it? Sorry for all of the questions, but like you said, it's quite rare, I've not only never met anyone else with it, but I've never been seen by a doctor, psychiatrist, or even psychologist that's ever treated or even seen a patient with CPTSD. I hope to hear back from you!

    I would have thought many of the hardened criminals that have done atrocious deeds to their fellow human being must be mentally ill to do what they do. Maybe turn the prisons into mental hospitals. Excellent interview, thanks Shaun ❤️

      There is a big difference between someone who is unwell mentally, and someone who has no empathy and is anti social. Mad vs Bad. With bad, there is No rehabilitation possible

      I don’t think you listened to the interview. Personality Disorder is a mental health condition but it’s not a psychosis like the other illness he talked about. Anti social personality disorder in simple terms is bad not mad. So prison is the place they go. 1-200 of us are supposed to be Psychopathic/Anti-social Personality Disorder. Most of them are in management, rather than prison. They enjoy going around loving their head hunting careers, or political careers, banking and management. They get promoted through deceit, charm, manipulation. Love nothing more than restructuring the companies as soon as they get there. Making people redundant when there could be a middle ground option, but for a few bucks more in profits they don’t. Nasty, egotistical, hateful, evil hides under their fake persona’s. They were the volunteers to gut the kill when we lived in tribes. So that’s all they were good for. No one can control who they become as adults through nature or nurture. Either way these individuals are real ‘number’s.

    Fascinating. I’m so interested in the way the mind works . I trained as a person centered counselor then had an accident causing a brain injury . Wouldn’t it be fascinating to learn how to help people with long term psychiatric patients .

    Wow!! Absolutely fascinating podcast. I could listen to you all day Dr Sohom. There is so much stigma around mental health, however I find the subject so interesting. I’m a nurse in a challenging behaviour unit for adults and I love to learn about forensic/criminal psychology. Thank you for your insight. I’ll definitely look out for your book.
