I see this a lot these days and I honestly bristle every time. To dismiss copyright because it isn't the singular end all fix, is really bad reasoning. There is this tendency now to approach problems with a simplistic "we need a single statement as a solution" perspective. I always feel like this is an argument from someone who doesn't fully understand copyright law. The answer isn't to get rid of it because it isn't perfect. We need to make it better based on what it seems to be lacking. Sorry to say it but it needs to match the complexity and power we're up against as artists.
For about a decade now I've been pretty in touch with the idea that IP is about the only way lower earning classes can transition upward in this economy. We can't "wage earn" our way up. We will never become the upper managerial class in the corporate world. Those people are more segregated at birth (or college) than ever.
Creating and owning IP and holding copyright is one of the few realistic options we have left. Removing or weakening copyright can only serve corporate interests.

Indeed copyright today is outdated, and just like with DMCA it needs to be updated not removed. The removal of copyright is purely sociopathic and twisted, humans need rights, especially laborers.

I don't like the idea of people using my partner's voice and images to make pornography, it has already happened to my partner and it deeply upset them. It's concerning how the law is slow on these things, and how a lot of these innovators want us to basically live in a cyberpunk-esque world, even a lot of the stolen generated art focuses on these themes and those who made art glorifying that are kicking themselves for fictively promoting such ideologies in their art.
