The English adaptation tells about love between a man and a woman, and this was done million times in 20 or 30 different ways, while the ORIGINAL song by Charles Trenet tells about the constant and strong love of a man for THE SEA (he was born in Sete, South of France, a little harbour on the Mediterranean sea, with a large sea-pond).
However I agree that this cover is far from being the best one..
