Enjoyed painting this along with you. The tips you gave along the way created a finish piece that felt accomplished. Creating splashes by scrap paint made the whole piece. Thank you, also, Winslow Homer the fine artist.
I love your tutorials Paul. I’d really like to see one about actually loading the brush and what the paint should look like depending on what is trying to be achieved. I.e. a wash or a solid line, etc.
Thank you. I see lots of videos on color theory and I understand what colors to mix to make other colors but actually handling the paint is never addressed. Do you mix your colors right from the tube? Do you dip the brush in water first and mix the diluted paint? If so, how do I get the darker values? I see you first add washes then add darker values of the same mixed color. How??? It is probably really simple but I’ve yet to find instruction for it.
Paul, a big thumbs up for this Winslow Homer tutorial and a continuing series with other artists! This one is such a lovely, true image -- it makes you feel that you're in another time and place of pure joy and innocence. Brilliant selection and beautiful rendition. Thank you!!! Can't wait to try it!
Loved watching you paint this scene and the music in the background really helps to set the mood of the painting--which, I think, is very important to be able to accomplish it effectively. Thank you, as always!
Paul i so appreciate the product u produce. Not just the amazing tutorial. But the video itself is so well done. A pleasure to watch. The music the humor. But u get right down to the painting w no boring conversation like many. And when u do converse about an artist or whatever. Its always entertaining. Lke when u talked about the things Brits say in one of ur other vids. I so enjoy spending time w you. Big fan!🇺🇸
Greetings from Cullercoats where Winslow Homer lived for two years painting memorable watercolours of the coast and the people who lived and worked here. Thank you for your tutorial today, I really enjoyed it. Andy
Paul, hello from the USA. Great change of pace subject. I really enjoy paintings with trees, water, interesting skies, and of course...people. This one has them all. I love your attention to the sky more than most professionals. Most of them just put a bland sky like its really not important to the painting. I think you are the Bob Ross of watercolor artists...great teacher, great videos with a sense of humor and great editing, and a great selection of subjects. Not to mention the available PDFs for download for those who just want to get right to painting. Happy new year to you for your inspiration.
I love this one. It’s great to see who had influenced your paintings. Also knowing your humour I was surprised you haven’t mentioned anything about the little spider crawling on the paper. 🤣😁 Thank you Paul for bringing knowledge and combining it with fun. It’s always a pleasure to spend some time learning with you 🤗💞🎨
Love the inspirational series. Winslow Homer inspired me to take up oil painting and now watercolor. He was a master of the art. Thanks Paul for doing this artist.
Happy New Year Paul & Margot. You are such a blessing to the watercolor community. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talents with us. I think your videos and challenges are so helpful in so many different ways. My husband is not a painter, but he really enjoys the videos too☺☺

I love this series for many reasons, one of them being you showcasing how you can copy another artists' painting, while putting your own unique style to it. It's very reassuring to those of us being afraid to copy artwork in the hopes of getting better and developing a unique style. So thank you very much for that! The tutorials are as amazing as ever. If i could suggest a topic for a how to - tutorial: I live by a lake and the shore is mainly tiny stones. Could you show us, how to best paint thousands of little stones, without labouring for says? Have a great new year Paul and Margaret!
It is a time honored way to learn copying masters to help you see how they produce the effects you admire. Fascinating to see the sequence in the application & you are so great at making viewers feel relaxed. I am in awe of your seemingly chaotic early splashes evolving into a coherent picture.
I love all your videos, your work is amazing but even more is your cheerful disposition. When ever I feel blue, I watch your videos and I am always cheered up. Thank you. Ps keep doing the skits with your lovely wife.
Hi, I’m new to your channel, my name is Robin. Things have recently changed in my life and I found myself drawn to watercolor. So I bought what I needed and jumped down the watercolored rabbit hole! This calls for some binge watching and go from there. So good to have found your channel. Thank you. Robin
Hello Paul. Just magic! I really like Winslow Homer's work and enjoyed your demonstration. I follow many of your RUclips videos and learn a lot from your clear and lively demos and explanations. I look forward to more of your examples from the masters. Many thanks.
I’m trying to illustrate a children’s book. The story all happens in the wooded area. There is a river, but no boats. But there are people in this really helped me gain understanding of how to paint up to the people and then conclude by painting them. Thanks a bunch, Elizabeth at Banfill Crossing
Paul thank you so much for your painting tutorials. I love painting and i am pleased i had seeing your RUclips channel. I am so excited to start painting along with you. Thank you so much . Bless you, it brings me such a sense of peace.
Hi Paul, I jumped in and tried this Winsor Homer painting and really enjoyed trying this looser style and I think mine turned out pretty good. It's very different than the botanical techniques I have been learning for 3 years under another UK artists online school. I have looked around your site and love it! I plan on trying many of your paintings to learn how to apply your techniques to my own photos. Like you, whenever I take photos in nature I always have composed them with the idea of painting them someday. I have done a few landscapes using the tighter botanical methods I have learned, but I really enjoyed painting your canoe painting much more than any of the ones I have done so far. You have broken my block - I was about ready to just stop painting. I love learning new things - your videos have inspired me to paint again! Thank you so much!
