- Well, you don’t really paint the light, but you preserve them with watercolor. But regardless of how it works, having a good sense of lighting can make things look more dimensional and convey the mood of the painting more clearly. So let's talk about it, and I hope this video will enlighten you and light up your day.!

Very important to think about light and shadow. Watercolor will always be a mystery but these tutorials uncover it slowly.
Eric, You are a great artist and a kind and thoughtful man. I so appreciate your generosity in sharing your skills with us all and your inspiring words. Thank you and God Bless.
Your videos are always, "just right." I appreciated the side-by-side examples that clearly demonstrated your topic here. It was very helpful. Thank you.
The smoke in the sunset painting came together like magic. Amazing
Eric, thank-you for your clear instruction of how to rend light. By demoing the same scene side-by-side under 2 different light conditions it was by far the best explanation of the nuanced techniques I have watched. Also, in the sunset version, your approach to save the over worked steam by glazed over the sky at the point in the 3rd layer when the paper is almost dry, is an invaluable lesson.
Thank you ! Your observations and literary relay of your observations are helpful to the beginning artist.
You were so good on capturing the right colors and values..!! Thx for the video !
Fantastic demo. Thanks so very much. You’re such a great teacher and I agree, you have an amazing voice. Love your work!
Thanks! A reminder of the importance to take the time to observe, before starting to paint.
It's good to see examples side by side. Thank you.
I ❤️ your Bob Ross Funko in the background. I have it, too!
you are a great teacher 👨🏫👍
Painting is not just about displaying the end result but also the journey and thought process behind it.
Thank you so much!! Your youtube channel is a treasure!!
Thanks for keeping the photo references handy while you work!
Very useful, as always. You’re a very good teacher! And your pun cheered me up, and we all need it. 😊
Brilliant! Maestro!🏵
Always useful information and enjoy your exercises 👍
"Just because something is lit by the sun doesn't mean it has a light value." I have struggled with this for over two decades and that simple statement suddenly made it click. Thank you.
Always very pleasant to hear your advice Eric; thank you.
You're so good! Great teaching as well thank you!
Pretty painting.
You are a great teacher!! Thank you so very much ❤
These darks make such a difference. Thank you!

Great job! I really love how they turned out and your explanation along the way!
Hiya Eric, Thanks very much for a superb demonstration and great advice, I love both paintings but particularly the early morning version. Take care and stay safe and well.
Hi Eric.
This is very informative and thoughtful.
I wonder why it is so important to “always connect your middle values”? Any insight you could share? Or a video where you explain why it is so important? Thank you. This is beautiful.
You are a great artist and teacher - thanks so much for explaining everything so well!
This is the first of your videos I've seen. Very helpful and informative. I look forward to watching more. Thanks!

Thank you so much!!! It was so adorable!
Amazing as always 🙏
Very helpful. Thanks😃
Excellent video
Thank you very much for this very useful tipps. One thing I 'd like to mention: as in the sunset picture the light is shining from down behind the train the steam should be lighter beliw and much darker in the upper part, I mean? Love your tutorials 🌺🌈
Thank you.
Thanks!
Very helpful. Thankyou , God bless you.
Thank you..Great teacher🥰
Dear Mr Yi Lin. I will thank you so much for making these tutorials that I love to watch. However I use to love to paint myself, but my desire went away due to Mr Putins disgusting attack and war against the friendly, and democratic Ukraine some ten days ago. All my happiness fell flat to zero.
Anyway. It feels very good to see you paint, and listen to your beautiful voice that radiates love. I needed that.
I will re-watch many more of your shows. Many thanks, and love from a swedish old man.
Awesome
Amazing tips. I do put too many details early. Was nice to see u keep it very simple. Question for you, is there an app or software that can turn a picture into 3 shades of grey, so we can better visualize what would be highlights, mid and darker tones.
You are AMAZING
Thank you ☺
I bought your course and I love it! Please help me paint seagulls
Hi Eric, thank you for showing this two different versions! That was really interesting. I have another question: I saw in your Insta the wonderful painting of the young lady you did with procreate. It would be nice if you can show this painting process also in your yt channel. To add a nft for the painting is easy or difficult? Greatings from Germany Angelika
Thank you!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼♥️♥️♥️
Thanks
Great tutorial 👌 i will try harder to see 3 layers not 10😄🙈👍 thank you have a great day
Eric, 你好,很喜歡你的影片!可以多介紹展示你的工作內容嗎?
One question, I am have just started learning Watercolor and not much experience in Drawing. When ever i draw i use to add grid before i start drawing. say i add vertical and horizontal lines in 25, 50 75% and i start drawing to see the actual center and where object sits is this good to do it.... in beginning to draw ? When i get soft copy of image i draw this grid in photoshop Guide lines and in my paper and start draw.
Very nice..I'm terrible about saving white space or light space.
takes a bit of confidence to "not" paint something at times :)
You are a great teacher! I'm Spanish and as you speak quiet and clear I understand everything very well!!! I'm learning a lot with your vídeos. Thanks you very much!!!
