    yeah you could by a car for what you have into that rifle.
    you could burn that same cash on a nice bottle of wine, or on a weekend in vegas. Thats the beautiful thing about our (questionably) free country. You earn it, and (after the feds steal as much as they can) you get to choose how to spend it.
    This is money well spent. Nice rifle.

      +Joe Stubbernubbensteingenson There's plenty of people who could afford this set up. I could, if I wanted it. I do have a SCAR 16 & 17. However, mine are set up for different things. You want nice things. And not have to worry about money. My advise would be to get a quality education in a field that pays well. Any job in the S.TE.M. (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). A career in those fields will provide job security and good pay. Considering, companies in America are lacking people to fill those position. Hence, why said companies recruit over-seas. It's never too late to go back to school.

      Rick S
      I suck badly at mathemathics and for any of those field you would need to be very good at it... :( even chemistry which is a branch that interest me alot needs it.
      and lol falco isn't a bit overkill/cheat to hunt hog with thermal/nightvision, well I can imagine night vision is ok otherwise you wouldn't see crap at night.
      But thermal... lol

    I'm sure you'll get a lot of hate about a rifle this expensive, but you know what, I like seeing former military "making it" and enjoying the finer things in life. If anyone deserves that, veterans do. Everyone wants to complain about how the system is stacked against them, and how a simple man can never make it, but then they hate on those that do make it. Congrats to you on the fine rifle (actually, I think it's the optics, not the rifle).

    I thought $2500 gaming PCs were wasteful, WOW! 8K+ in optics. That is a decent motorcycle or quality performance package upgrade for a car you can use daily.

    • @TheCharleseye
      @TheCharleseye 8 лет назад +3

      Consider the possibility that he may already have a high end PC, a motorcycle and a performance package for his car. Would he buy such things again or put money into his favorite hobby? It's not wasteful to spend money on things you can afford and frankly, he's keeping his money circulating by buying "frivolous" things, so good on him. Would you rather everyone with money just sock it away and never spend more than they need for necessities?

    • @AKlover
      @AKlover 8 лет назад +1

      Charles Eye I can use the car and PC daily, and the motorcycle a couple times per week. Unless you own dozens of acres you will use the rifle rarely. I can also work from my high end PC.
      Not my place to tell you or he how to spend your money, just laying out what gives you the most opportunity for joy/fulfillment in terms of bang for buck. No pun intended. If I had 8K to toss away it wouldn't be on a optic sold at scalpers prices because 2 SOCOM members have had pictures taken using said optic. A 12K rifle you MIGHT use 2X a month and never for it's designed purpose or something fulfilling you can use often and at whatever time the urge strikes.

    • @TheCharleseye
      @TheCharleseye 8 лет назад +5

      +AKlover Who are you to decide what is fulfilling? HE built HIS gun out to satisfy HIS desire to do so. Seems like that was pretty fulfilling for him. You having different priorities than he does doesn't matter. He can afford to build out a $12000 rifle, wanted to do so and did it. You talk about daily use like that's the only reason to own something. Here's a thought: Some of us don't ride motorcycles, think video games are a waste of time and know that plenty of work can be accomplished on a PC that costs half what you stated. I guess that means you shouldn't want or own these things because other people wouldn't enjoy them or use them daily, right?
      "I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a rifle because I wouldn't shoot it very often and I have different priorities" is not a valid argument against him doing so. Honestly, it just makes you sound bitter that he's enjoying his money the way he chooses to. Is that your goal? To let everyone know that you resent people who spend their own money on their hobbies? Congratulations, you succeeded.

    1. Did you have a design or goal in mind before you assembled the components?
    2. If you did have a goal, did you accomplish it?
    3. How far have you shot it?
    4. Is there anything that can perform that well for 1/10th of the price?
    5. I would like to see a can on it, maybe you could do a video on POI shift or any change in accuracy that it causes.

    In my SCAR 17 I have the Trijicon 648 ACOG (BDC in 7.62x51) with red horseshoe reticle (also has the Tennebrex glint hider and flip covers), Gissele Super Scar trigger, Midwest Industries rail extension, Harris bipod (Atlas someday), Hogue pistol grip (fitted from AR-15 style), and I swapped the OEM brake for the SilencerCo QD muzzle brake so I always run my Omega on it because I usually shoot at a public range. That OEM brake really bothers the people that are anal about target shooting even as far as 3 benches over they can feel the explosion in their chests. I've never bothered using the safety so I haven't looked into the metal selector.
    I also notice that you have the charging handle on the left side, do you do that for the familiarity of AR style rifles? I have always considered the SCAR17 as a battle rifle so I keep the charging handle on the right side.
    Also I still rock my UGG boot stock, it helps with convincing the ladies to handle my big iron (even though the internet has ruined the stock for me.)
    Every time I see a black SCAR a little part of me dies on the inside, the gun was made to be FDE, beautiful build Tim.

  • @cherokeecook1260
    @cherokeecook1260 8 лет назад +3

    Two questions if you don't mind. This rifle is 11/10.
    How much(ballpark)does it weigh with the light on it?
    How do you think the SCAR stacks against other 7.62NATO semi autos? I would say its superior, but for instance a LRB or Fulton M1a, with an as expensive optic on it would be about half the price of your SCAR. That, theoretically, still gets the job done.

    • @Militaryarmschannel
      @Militaryarmschannel  8 лет назад +24

      +Daniel Cook I would say the SCAR is peerless in its category. There isn't a better .308 rifle for use as a DMR, door kicker, battle rifle, whatever -- it can do it all and to it with less weight, typically with more accurately and more reliably than anything else I have shot.

    • @Zav
      @Zav 8 лет назад

      +Military Arms Channel It seems that based on your rail extensions, bipod selection, lack of vertical foregrip, desire for up to 6x magnification, that you are customizing your 17s to make it similar in nature to the Mk20 sniper support rifle, instead of a more traditional battle rifle (whatever that means).
      In other words, it seems like you are trying to make a Mk20 SSR. If/when the Mk20 SSR ever comes to the US market for civilians, would you consider purchasing that? If so, would you then revert your 17s into a more traditional battle rifle by removing the bipod, front rail extensions, etc?

    • @ptejericho
      @ptejericho 8 лет назад

      +Military Arms Channel How would you rate it versus the various SR-25 iterations? There are precision oriented SR-25's and some that are more general purpose, but they seem to be highly spoken of.

    • @ptejericho
      @ptejericho 8 лет назад

      +Military Arms Channel Tim, my only suggestion would be to:
      a) try a can on that thing;
      b) try offset backup folding irons like the Magpul MBUS Pro Offset. I like them because optics can fog up, fail, etc. And rolling the gun to the side makes you uber tacti-cool!

    • @DatGrunt
      @DatGrunt 8 лет назад

      +Daniel Cook With a light it weights maybe a bit over 8 pounds. This thing is CRAZY light. And the recoil? Perhaps the softest recoil out of a 308 rifle yet. It almost feels like a 556. Not even joking.

    Old news, but FN doesn't warranty damage done from suppressing the SCAR platforms.

    I got a deal on the SCAR 17, $2,300. Plus I bought a Leupold MK4 3.5-10, $1,300. This rifle can reach out more than what people think. In ideal conditions it can push 650 -700 yards easily. You definitely need a new trigger geisselle ( excuse me if I misspelled it) is a good trigger mod. I went with the Timney instead. As far as the muzzle blast even if you are just shooting off one round need hearing protection. Definitely recommend buying a suppressor. Gem tech doesn't hurt range and if it does we are talking maybe 10 yards.

I will drop the direct link to their website it is currently priced at $2719 with free shipping for the 17s in FDE which is a great deal. The only issue is they are currently out of stock. I suggest you activate the notify me when available feature on the website and also call them from time to time so you get the heads up as soon as they come in stock. You can also read the review I left for the rifle last year. Have you ever run into issues with the aluminum backplate on the KDG stock causing the screws to cant at the rear? FN claims that the factory backplate is polymer to help absorb some of the recoil, which the aluminum plate will not. I've always been hesitant to put a KDG stock on my 17 for that reason, as I've seen many people raise that concern.

I bought a Tavor (from copper custom of course) and a TA11 ACOG, I couldn't be happier. I installed a Geissele trigger pack and lightning bow and a few other goodies which quickly turned my Tavor into the BEST little rifle I have ever owned. My AR's and AK's stay home most of the time.
