- The Day My Life Changed 1984 -(Weird Paul) How My Life Changed Forever Story Real Events 2016
In 10th grade English class, we had to write a paper about the day our life changed. I still have my composition, so let's read about the day when my family got a video camera - 32 years ago!

I like the awkward pauses between cuts :) helps it seem more 80s.
😀
I'm glad!
Love this video. It's some kind of The Wonder Years, but real.
Thank you, I'm really glad you liked it!
Omg i like you wideos ima watch em now
This is incredible with sound old videos and color
You should record an intro for your future videos with the famous "dad dad don't move that camera dad" And as an outro "Don't you just love this"
I like this idea.
A 78%!!!! That's messed up. I give you an A Paul.
Thanks Mark!
A 78% is still good in my opinion
I’d give it a 100%
Seriously felt like I was there and it was 1984... I was 6 when you wrote that paper.
That makes me very happy. I feel like a great storyteller when I hear someone say they felt like they were there.
Only a 78%? Hopefully now that you've read it to the world, you;ll get a little redemption in the form of tons of views! Great stuff as always, Paul!
Thanks PixelDan! I really feel that way about a lot of stuff. Some of it I was kind of unhappy with back then, but I saved it and now it's become useful and usually cool!
boy, two of my favorite youtubers!
man, I just found you! I simply love your videos!
Thanks! I'm glad you found my channel, thanks for subscribing!
@@weirdpaulp You have great sense of humor! You rock :)
truly inspiring man. love it
Thanks Eric, talk to you soon!
What the heck Eric. You're subbed too?
And thanks to Eric, so am I. :)
Me too!
Proof that our collective 80's were made of monumental advancements in artistic bad-assery. You, sir... rock.
Thank you Mars! Looking forward to seeing you again!
@@weirdpaulp Likewise. I am gonna hit you with a email in a few dayz. Cheers!
I hated school to paul.👍But i loved television.Late at night,id watched up all night with some co host called Rhonda. The 80s were such good times.Hanging out with my friends, going to our local arcade called- Space Port.Going to the malls to look for girls..etc.👍😃✌Awwww the sweet memories of going to concerts.
Legend has it he still speaks of these videos to this day.
Dude I love your channel. It's like opening a time capsule every time
Thanks, I always loved the idea of time capsules as a kid. I had to wait 30 years but now I have my own!
Weird Paul i work at an old elementary school. Its not a school any more but i guess every year the kids burried time capsules, so we joke about digging around and looking for some of them
Found you by accident. Glad I did - this is fabulous stuff! Makes me nostalgic for my own (albeit video camera-less) '80s childhood!
Thanks Jenny! I'm glad you found me, too!
This was awesome, fun times!
Thanks!!
I love how sentimental you are I live vicariously through you
God I love this so unbelievably much
Thank you Kaitlyn!
I know, Kaitlyn! This guy is so stinkin' cute and the videos are so authentic!
:)
Aww! That was so honest and it showed how passionate you were for being on and behind the camera, I noticed that you're a list maker and collect everything that you want, I admire that and enjoy your collections and vids and also your sense of humor, and I loved how that piece of equipment brought you and your family hours of enjoyment and how you all played together what a nice family you have, I'm no teacher but I'm giving you a 100%
Thank you, I will accept your grade!
Ralphie got a C+ on his Christmas theme about his longing for a Red Rider BB gun and you got a 78%, which I believe in many school districts is a C+! Coincidence....? I love your channel man!
One of the most random things I've seen on RUclips for a while, but somehow I was compelled to watch it to the end. I feel that my life is better now. That is all.
This reminds me of when I was a kid, and I got my first VHS camera. I used it to make stop-motion animation. Awesome video man, as always. Though.... The teacher giving it a 78/100, is disheartening. :(
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I wasn't too happy about the grade, but I guess I didn't really bother to follow some of the directions about grammar and composition!
Friday night videos!!!! I loved that show! Saturday night was Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. Man I loved those shows, they exposed me to tons of cool music.
My parents were cool enough to let me stay up late on weekends to watch.
Did you ever try your hand at stop motion animation with your camera Paul?
I remember being gutted our first camera took a second or so to start filming again after you filmed it, so it was nearly impossible. But I remember animating a coke can moving around the room with my friends. :S
Yeah it was nearly impossible, wasn't it? It was that lag when you pressed the button. I did do something, but what I did was film all the shots slowly and then fast forwarded the tape when I watched it so it went by quickly. It kind of looked like stuff was moving.
ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL
I never thought of doing that! but yeah it's a shame that most cameras wouldn't let you do stop frame. I think only Cine cameras could at that price.
My family did get a camera that could do stop motion in 1991. But by that time, I'd already moved out.
ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL
Aww, you'll have to try it someday!
This is so heartwarming. I'm glad I found you Weird Paul who's not so weird! (Found through Heather Sparkles) =)
Thank you! And thanks to Heather for pointing the way!
cool parents are parents who support their kids’ creativity. You hit the jackpot. That’s how my parents are too
Honestly, it’s pretty cool to hear how the video camera affected your life from that day forward. So glad your parents bought it!
Your videos are like a timetravel and I wasn't even born in this time.
Thanks, that's a great compliment. I hope to make more videos like this one soon.
ive just found your channel and i gotta say its amazing
Thank you!
Great video Paul, I discovered your channel for accident and now I'm a fan.
Thank you. I am very happy you found it!
Watching these videos make me wish I'd kept more of my journals and notes, that I made when I was younger.
😁
I really don't realize how lucky I am to still have all this stuff at my fingertips.
Haha! nice little history lesson there! Thanks for sharing Paul!
Glad you enjoyed the story!
I heard of you from Lonnie on Shed Flips channel. So glad I did. I remember someone like your 14 yo self from 1984. We are the same age.
Wow, I didn't know Lonnie had mentioned me! I'm glad that he did!
You should have got an A on that paper
Thanks Leslie.
Damn you are the original vlogger.
Still going strong
You had great penmanship for your 10th grade composition
Thank you.
This is so amazing man.. you actually wrote all that and now we have it all the way here.. thats so awesome.
Wow, too cool! I wish I had records of my childhood like that! Journals, videos, old essays. Awesome video as always.
Thanks Anthony! I'm really glad I kept all this stuff.
Absolutley loved that!!
Absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Madeline! I'm glad you enjoyed my story!
Alright Another Great Video Your The Best Paul!!!!
Thanks! :)
Thank you man. Your life stories take me back to the good times. Also its so cool to see what a great family you have. Feels great that you let us all in on this magic!
Thanks Tony! I really appreciate it!
Like button pressed. What a history. I was always like that in some how too. Hating schooll and "running" to home to do creative stuff. I get my first camera only in 1990 but filmed a lot with friends and fammily. Now almost on my 50 years old I am still a kid flying cameras. Drones!
I have seen what those drones can do - it's amazing!
I am tottaly hooked on Drones and flying capturing images and video from above.
Lovely, thanks for this Paul, much love!
:D
OMG, your Mum is so beautiful!!! If I was your teacher, I'd have given you an A+. Thanks for sharing 💖💖💖
Thanx Cassie! 😁
awesome video thanks for sharing Paul - your a true Videographer.. since Day 1! :)
Glad you liked it, thank you!
This absolutely owns, thanks for sharing your awesome stories, videos and music, Paul!
Thanks for watching!
Dude...you are a documentary GENIUS! I could watch you for hours. You give off a Mister Rogers vibe 100%.
What a touching story! It's fantastic that you have so much footage from that time! What an amazing childhood!
Thanks Chelsea!
Paul: talking about the important things in his life
Me: why does he blink so much
loved this one, Paul!
Thanks Maggie!
I have just found your channel and I binged watched almost all of your videos! You are amazing!!! I particularly enjoy your thrift/flea market hauls! Do you have any Highlander (movie series or television series) or Queen memorabilia you could show us?
Thanks Dottie! I have never seen any of the Highlanders. I don't watch TV much but I have seen almost 9000 movies. But there's not enough time for everything unfortunately. I can't think of any Queen memorabilia that I have other than some records, of course! But I love Queen, I made my own Queen music videos! ruclips.net/video/_SC8aQghMvY/видео.html
good video and one of your best ones Paul
Thank you Timothy, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Ha great stuff Paul! :-)
Thanks Craig!
hey Paul! great video! love how you were making videos way before you tube was even thought of..you and I are the same age so I can really relate to your videos and I too have chronicled events of my life by writing down the date ,day, and year starting in 1987 when I was 16 years old( turned 17 in October of that year) and bought a Casio G-SHOCK watch that was my most prized possession back then and wrote special and some simple daily events in a old book I had and used that watch as the official time date and day keeper...been doing these journals till today and it's so cool to look back and remember...helps me stay young! ...people think I'm weird. .but I'm ok with it! the
Thanks John! I think it's great that you have done that. People's lives are forgotten in most cases, because they don't take the time to chronicle them. You have to do it yourself, no one will do it for you!
Ah, the memories, Friday Night Videos. I remember when my friend got a video camera, it was the first ones that you had to hook up to the HUGE VCR. When had to put the VCR on a chair with a extension cord across the lawn.
Wow, that is awesome! What year do you think that was?
early 80's but then He bought a mini VCR and you could carry it with a shoulder strap, a lot easier.
Yeah that's the kind that we had.
Dude this is amazing i just found out about your channel about a week ago i think, i didn't know you have footage of you back in the 80s wow can't believe you manage to keep those old films until now. Subbed
Thanks for subbing! Glad you like it!
I love this! I'm surprised you didn't completely wreck the camera when you rolled it down the street. lol That had me cracking up! Awesome video Paul!
Thanks! Yeah it was getting the crap bounced out of it. That couldn't have been good for it. Imagine if it had fallen off the scooter!
ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL
I know! lol Your dad really would have told you to get away from it! lol
This is amazing!!!!
Thanks Niña! Thank you for subscribing!
Hi Paul, I usually comment from my other channel, a family vlog channel called the Vloginsons but you may see me comment from this one from time to time as well. It just depends on which account I'm logged into at the time. This is amazing Paul. Over 600 music videos? Wooo! Your first vid was a turd going down the bowl? Bwahahahaha! You sure put that old camera through a lot and you know what Paul, I'm so glad you did. Seeing your videos is such an amazing experience for me. You are easily in my top 10 channels. Your videos always hit me in the feelz. Keep rockin Paul. :-)
Hey I know you! Yes I am slowing uploading the over 600 music videos to my other channel: ruclips.net/user/weirdpaulvideos - I wish I still had that footage of the turd flushing! I guess I can understand why my dad didn't like that. I thought it was art. I appreciate your kind words always, it means a lot to me.
Dude... it's almost the 40th Anniversary... Holy shit how time flies...
@@Glitch-Gremlin for real
@@weirdpaulp I hope you and your Good lady wife are doing well, Paul
Awesome. Love your vids., man !
Thank you!
I still have my 4th grade questionnaire and it had asked who I most admired or wanted to be when grown up and I wrote Stephen Pearcy! Great video Paul.
Stephen Pearcy! Now that's the first time I heard someone say that!
That's funny, I was born on September 6. Super cool though, that you were able to cure your boredom with making videos!
Yeah, that was all it took! But that's how I look at it, the camera was the missing thing. It was what I needed.
Where Paul as well let you know that they are messing up RUclips please be careful what you put on there peace you are my favorite RUclipsr
I have heard about that - but I don't really think any of my videos will be affected.
Wow. That composition was much better than a 78.
This is absolutely wonderful! You deserve more views and subscribers!
Thanks Victor! I've been waiting six years now to get noticed! But I plan to do more videos like this one when I do start getting more subscribers!
My pleasure! Keep doing what you're doing and you will get there without a doubt! Your videos are one of a kind man, cheers!
You're my age.. Im enjoying all your looks back.. Thank you
Thanks Karen! Lots more memories coming up!
I love this video man.
Thanks Jim!

Truly awesome :)
Thanks Mark!
Hey weird Paul, I love the video man! You were and are a cool man
Thank you!
@@weirdpaulp no problemo
We love you Paul!
Just stumbled on your page and happen to be from your area! Heading off now to rewatch the part of the video you took in South Park (I live across the street from part of the park) to see if I can figure out where you filmed. :D Cheers!
this was hilarious!
it was so funny when you kept saying "right" after the questions you were asking your mom when the camera came back from repairs after a month....lol
I also loved that you ignored your dad when he told you no camera for a month...so funny!
Do you remember being scared when you had to tell your dad about melting the camera?
Also, why did you hate highschool so much? Are you still really close with your family?
Yes I was very scared when I had to tell my dad I melted the camera. Because I knew he wasn't just going to be mad...he was going to be very disappointed in me. I hated high school for a couple reasons. One was that I didn't have any friends in school or outside of school. Another reason was that I got bullied a lot. Even the swimming coach (at the time I did this report) was bullying me. I am still very close with my family. We all get together for Christmas and it's quite a crazy time!
I was born in 1984. Tis a good year.
Indeed.
Your mom is stunning
She has a certain style about her.
dude....
i just loved it. :-)
Thanks Lynne!
it’s wild how video cameras went from big expensive boxes you had to haul around and buy tapes for and now everyone has one in their pockets
My life radically changed in 1984 too, but not because of a video camera. That was the year the Hasbro company introduced the Transformers toy line, and coupled with the cartoon, which I would rush home from school to see, I was in 7th Heaven! So with my Transformers robots, and my old gaming systems, an Odyssey 2 and a Colecovision Adam, I can honestly say it was an awesome time to be a kid! If only I could hit life's rewind button and have do-over to re-live those awesome times again!
It looks like this was recorded in 1984. Lol. I like it.
You're awesome!
Thanks Brendon!
thanks Paul...................
Thank you for watching!
I got a little emotional here. My mother, brothers, and I were always moving and didn't have much money. We could never have what other families had as far as cool things like this. And soon enough this included stability. Then when I was 16 we got a early 90s vhs "camcorder". We constantly made sketches and music videos. It really lightened out lives up. We got have something really cool and make all the jump cut hilarity we wanted!
That's great. It really was a thing that families could use together as an activity.
Nice video, Paul!
Thank you!
Lovely
Thank you Sandra!
this is so sweet
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Kids can do what you did now with their PHONES. Vs a Thousand Dollar (in 1980s money) Camcorder that was very Delicate.
i wish we as humans had more time.. but we're only given what we're given.. but its very obvious to see, in your heart you're still 15 and full of Energy and Creativity. i hope you'll always continue to make videos as if you were still 15 though, Paul.
Great story. I remember the 1987 rental to see if we liked the camcorder enough to buy it. I had to be in front of it. I also became a brat because I could only touch it long enough to put a battery on it.
Being and English/Creative Writing major, I would've given you an 85/100.
That's a B and I'll take it!
ha, another great one.
Thanks!
Very cool man!
Thank you!
Vinyl Eyezz i love your videos vinyl eyezz 😁😁😁
