I bought a G410 when G425 came out after it dropped $100. Did a driver fitting with it and absolutely love it. Gained about 30 yards and hit it so much straighter. I'm sold on Ping drivers!
Did the same thing! G410 was $100 cheaper than the G425. Bought it, love it! Helped me shoot my age for the first time in my life (71 from the regular white tees, not the Senior tees) Like you, I picked up about 30 yards over my old G30.
Tech works incrementally. But you sure pay for it. Time for the Driver face-off. Love to see BOTH of you swing 5 shot each with Ping 425 Max, Sim2, EPIC, Mizuno, Tour Edge 721, Titleist, others... That would be 35-45 shots each for you. ONlLY stock shafts available from each respective company . Great stuff!!
No clue if you've already pulled the trigger on a driver, but I found a G400 (base model, not max or the other 2 variants) on sale last year and got it. Bought it around a 15-18 handicap and noticed the forgiveness on the course immediately. Just a stock, easy, fairway finder swing would go 250 without much effort and right down the middle. Worked on my game a lot in the last year and am sitting around a 10 handicap. Now that I picked up more head speed, this thing shoots missiles down the fairway. It's forgiving enough for a high handicapper, and performs more than good enough for a low handicapper when your game gets better. I see no reason to spend more money on the newer models, but find one for sale and try it out for sure. Never met anyone that's had a negative thing to say about it other than "for $300 more, you could get THIS driver that goes 10 yards further...sometimes" lol
Also, they have those LST (low spin tech) drivers...you don't need it. It gives up distance for forgiveness, but I've played both and everything about the regular 400 felt better. I had a couple misses with the LST, and so did the guy who owned it. Just marketing crap.

Great test that shows that PING is engineering company that focuses on continuous product irmprovement. The numbers show that the G425 Max combines the forgiveness of the G400 Max with the low spin characteristics of the G410+.

The only thing to consider is that Thomas is an absolute machine and will have a much more consistent strike than many of us. It does look like the g425 is more consistent so maybe even more gains for higher handicappers.
Not sure I agree with "the most consistent driver of the day G425 ..." Drew. I'd say "the driver Thomas hit most consistently on the day is G425". There is a limit to how much the club's 'forgiveness' can overcome a poor strike. It would be interesting to look at the two poor strikes Thomas made (one with the G400 and one with the G410) vs the worst of the strikes with the G425 to assess just how much forgiveness was needed for each club. Delete the two poor strikes and the G410 is the equal of the G425, if not better, and the G400 is so close the differential is practically irrelevant.
Thanks for watching. For the most part if clubs are only one generation apart the forgiveness won't be too different. You will see it more as the clubs get older. - Thomas
The spin is too low on the 425 for a lot of players. If you don’t have his speed you might hit knuckle balls and struggle to keep the ball in the air. I demod the club and found I hit the 400 enter overall.
Thank you for watching! We have the highest value trade-ins which can really help you offset the price of your new club! All 3 of these drivers are excellent!
There are plenty of shafts that can help you bring down the spin , a good low spin ball can help too , we need numbers to see your attack angle , swing speed , club path etc to understand why your spin is high .
Just like the previous comment it would be nice to see how these perform with a 85-87 MPH club head swing. Just guessing but I think this swing speed range must be the bulk of the people that would Benifit from these forgiving drivers.
Great test guys, question for you though. Why do you think Ping decided to not make the newest driver line the G420? I think it would have been a big seller.
I have been playing a G20 for the past 9 years Im ready for an upgrade! I was thinking save some money and get the 410plus, but this has me thinking get the 425max... Obviously I keep my clubs so I would rather buy new only reason staying away from the g400 max.
thanks for watching and commenting! PING drivers definitely have staying power and provide great performance for a long time. G425 Max is one of the most forgiving drivers we have tested and fit golfers for. If you plan on keeping your driver for several years as you did the G20, we think you would definitely get your money's worth out of the G425 Max.
I bought a g400 driver off of OfferUp for 80 bucks. Had a regular flex CB alta shaft in it which I sold for 40 and bought a 100 dollar hazardous yellow xstiff shaft. So I’m in at 140 bucks. Going to do the golf club research and use lead tape to turn it into a g425 max. How sweet of a golf club hack will this be?!?
I already own the 410 plus only thing I regret is buying a 12 ° ( at the time I was struggling with hight ) now I'd like to get a 9 ° ( now I've got plenty hight good distance around 235 carry but little runout around 15 yards ) ... I'd like to see this test with the LST versions G400 , G410 and G425.....
So, I understand that this is trying to be apples to apples with the same shaft and loft. But if you would've just lowered the loft and/or used a different shaft on the G400 Max, could similar launch, spin rates and distance have been achieved? It had the tightest dispersion, but I guess this could be due to the extra spin as well.
Guys, another really interesting review and executed so well. Very informative. Thomas commented on the reduced height of the G425 but at 110 feet it still seems high. Is it? My swing speed is c90mph, ball speed 135 (carry 200 yds and total c.230 yds), launch angle 14-15 degrees but my height is c. 66 feet. Why is my height so low? Thanks. J
I noticed the numbers weren’t adding up on swing/ball speed then realized you were using trackman. Discrepancy aside, there isn’t enough of a difference between the three for a 400 Max owner to upgrade. Just know whichever club you choose it is a winner.
on first thought, you guys look like a slightly less Scottish version of TXG. second thought, you should know that you can't test equipment in a credible manner unless you test at least 3 of each. I have two 915D3 10.5deg heads. They are visually identical. One has some sort of major defect. You wouldn't know that unless you hit it. And you'd know it immediately from the sound compared to the other(others, I have multiple 915D3 heads at various lofts). If I looked at strike parameters between the two, what would I see? I hear rumors that Titleist will accept any such head for return or exchange. I'll have to look into that just out of curiosity as to what they would send me in return. Third and most of all, it just isn't possible for a human to hit the same shot twice. What you should worry about is not what the strike parameters are for the 6 or so swings in question. But what they are for the majority of the swings. It's not what a club did the last time out that matters. It's what it has done the last several times out. We're all going to overlook a bad outing with a club that has given us outstanding performance in the past.
One thing that is never mentioned is how the G400max sits square and the G425 is stupid closed. Why would that be? And the heads just keep getting heavier. My favorite Ping driver was the 196 gram head Rapture with the Mitsubishi premium shaft. I still have it. I put that same shaft on the G400max and lightened the head to match the Rapture and it has made my G400max a monster in straightness and length. I just wish the G425max weren't so damn closed at address. I really hate it. By the way my G400max is longer and straighter than my G425max. I should note that I do not have a high swingspeed as I am a senior golfer with a single digit hdcp. Anyone want my completely unused looking G425 for a fair price? $450 with an assortment of 4 different weights/wrench and the headcover You pay shipping
@@2ndswing It reads ball data more or less 100%, but if the clubs have different CG, it will read them differently. Hence why all you ball speeds were identical with the clubs, and your efficiencies weren't.
Is not the club invest on your skill, short game and putting, you usually hit the driver no more than 14 time per round and 100% name brand drive are the same they must meet USGA specs otherwise is illegal to use, so please never believe the BS of the commercial,
When will reviewers match the player swing speed with the design of the club ? 113 mph swing speed on a higher handicap “Max” design of club, really? What a waste of time.
Thanks for watching. Not all faster swing speed or even tour professionals play the low spin drivers. You would be quite surprised actually. A good example is Tony Finau when the G400 Max came out he went for the max forgiving driver.
I swing 115, 118 once I get warmed up, I use the g400 max with x-stiff tour shaft and 8 degrees loft. I can catch the ball all over the face and still hit bombs, the same cannot be said for the "lower handicap" drivers

Tested this against the new Sim and Cobra Radspeed. It felt....okay, but the sounds it produced were awful. I thought the thing was breaking every time I hit a ball. Ended up going with the Cobra.
Picked mine up at 2nd Swing Wilmington DE last week! Traded in about $400 worth of older drivers and woods including my old 910, 914 and 917s which don't compare to the G425MAX. Best deal ever!!
The 400 max compared very well, yet. I still hit a g 20 for good distance, too.
Great head and shaft combo. I have the 410 and 425 and I think I am selling the 425. The 410 just feels right in my hands
Thanks for watching - Thomas
You guys do the best tests love it.
I’m really stuck between the Ping g400 max and the Sim... been rocking the TS3 for 2 years and love it but I’ve been borrowing my friends Ping and Sim at the range and feel there is far more forgiveness.
G400 Max been in my bag for 3 years. Average about 260 yds and always near or on the fairway. Sometime i get past 270's when I hit it good. Loft at 8.0 with super stiff. Its time I pick up a new driver. PXG XT or XF at 300.00 bucks is a steal.
Thanks for watching! Let us know what you get fit for - Thomas
"I've been hitting it great and sometimes amazing. F this club, time for a new one"
The G410 at 7,5 was a bomber for me, didn't pull the trigger though! Will sure give the G425 a chance!
Thank you for watching Ed! We would love to help you get the best driver for your game! If you can't come into one of our store locations, we do offer our award-winning fittings either over the phone or through a video chat. We've received some awesome feedback on the G425 drivers so far... fitting.2ndswing.info/schedule-now/
Great comparisons guys , this new G425 Max looks impressive 👏
We have had outstanding feedback from our customers! Thank you for watching!
@@2ndswing i do have the G410 plus and not sure im ready to be changing drivers every year but did buy the G425 hybrid can't wait for it to arrive!
@@colinschrank5576 let us know how it performs for you!
I have a G400 and love it. Can’t wait to get my hands on the G425
when you lower/icrease loft on these dont you open/close the face creating other issues?
Just as well go out and buy a highly reduced G400 IMO
Only issue is you won’t find many new ones and the ones for sell probably have been hit quite a few times
@@Trifizzy92 snainton golf brand new £259 g400 max watched all the reviews first and bought one as I’d seen how much it improved my mates game first time I’ve bought driver and it’s not been the newest version
The only thing to consider is that Thomas is an absolute machine and will have a much more consistent strike than many of us. It does look like the g425 is more consistent so maybe even more gains for higher handicappers.
I've been playing the G410 LST 10.5 for quite some time and it looks like the G425 Max will be a more forgiving version of my driver. Count me in.
2nd swing shipping blows been 3 weeks and i haven’t received my lefty g425
The G410 Plus is 455cc not 460. 9:41
I would go for the G400 MAX! much cheaper, same carry and only a few yards less, because of higher spin..... save the bugs and get a perfect putter =)
Thank you for watching! We have the highest value trade-ins which can really help you offset the price of your new club! All 3 of these drivers are excellent!
Switching the shaft you can control better the spin
@@user-fn3zh8nw4f what kind of shaft?
There are plenty of shafts that can help you bring down the spin , a good low spin ball can help too , we need numbers to see your attack angle , swing speed , club path etc to understand why your spin is high .
Just like the previous comment it would be nice to see how these perform with a 85-87 MPH club head swing. Just guessing but I think this swing speed range must be the bulk of the people that would Benifit from these forgiving drivers.
Thanks for all y’all do. I would love to see some Wilson irons on here. That would be great. Thanks
Great test guys, question for you though. Why do you think Ping decided to not make the newest driver line the G420? I think it would have been a big seller.
Sure would of been lol
Great video 👍I game the G410 Plus and it's awesome not changing this year G425 looks good though
Great works gents good comparison
Thank you for your kind words and the support!
Thanks for watching Arslan!
What shafts are used in these samples Drives?
Used G410s going for $300 cad round my parts...very tempting
Still a very good option - Thomas
I got a new G410 plus the other day locally for $250 US. Keep an eye out, the prices are dropping.
Hit in reverse order would be interesting...
What about the G425 LST VS MAX?
So, I understand that this is trying to be apples to apples with the same shaft and loft. But if you would've just lowered the loft and/or used a different shaft on the G400 Max, could similar launch, spin rates and distance have been achieved? It had the tightest dispersion, but I guess this could be due to the extra spin as well.
That's right, spin isn't always a bad thing if you're getting the same distance and tighter grouping. Everyone is on the low spin bandwagon lol
I am currently playing the G400 ( not max version)
I find the ball flight high with it as well. Which heavier shaft would help keep it lower?
You can crank down the loft but yes, a heavier shaft will have a lower launch
Guys, another really interesting review and executed so well. Very informative. Thomas commented on the reduced height of the G425 but at 110 feet it still seems high. Is it? My swing speed is c90mph, ball speed 135 (carry 200 yds and total c.230 yds), launch angle 14-15 degrees but my height is c. 66 feet. Why is my height so low? Thanks. J
JC, what is your driver's static loft and what is your launch angle and dynamic loft? These are important numbers to help Thomas advise.
Just picked up a G425 max to replace my (non-max) g400. I could definitely use more forgiveness.
I noticed the numbers weren’t adding up on swing/ball speed then realized you were using trackman. Discrepancy aside, there isn’t enough of a difference between the three for a 400 Max owner to upgrade. Just know whichever club you choose it is a winner.
I’m always amazed at these type of reviews when the average person is hitting the ball further than the tour pros hmmm
So accounting for standard deviation and human error, all the same.
Good video but would be better having a mid handicapper test. This guy would hit it a mile with a 30 yr old club
What did you use for the test? Is it aftermarket?
What shaft?
It's the PING Tour shaft, comes stock with PING drivers
Seems like time to change 400 max with not so much of spin :)
Just me...but does Thomas remind anyone else of Lucy Robson?
The g410 more compact it’s small it’s 455cc
This is awesome.
Always sounds like Thomas says the furtherest
New Zealand accent 😊
Back again with my inconsistent driver tester take...lmk I'm in the twin cities
Just want to see someone like me hit these clubs for a more realistic comparison.
on first thought, you guys look like a slightly less Scottish version of TXG.
second thought, you should know that you can't test equipment in a credible manner unless you test at least 3 of each.
G400 max is the best
If your not put off by the sound of the 425 it's great but wow what a horrible sound
G410 club speed was a mis-read.
Sometimes trackman misreads but overall is very reliable! Thank you for watching!
@@2ndswing It reads ball data more or less 100%, but if the clubs have different CG, it will read them differently. Hence why all you ball speeds were identical with the clubs, and your efficiencies weren't.
If you include the worst shots with G400 max look obvious its third place
G400 max beats the new one for me..
The real world differences between the 3 are tiny.
All this tells you is never buy a new driver.
MN Nice 😎
The fact is when you compare 425 to 410 or 400 max its very small differences.
Thank you for watching!
In what world does 165 ball speed carry 297 LOL
If you are able to increase your attack angle to obtain a high launch and low spin it is quite possible - Thomas
G400 spins too much. The 410 is the 🐐.
First.... lol. Just because. Good stuff gents!
lol Love it! thank you!
No way 110mph swing speed can carry 297 yards .....
Thanks for watching!
I thought that too. Maybe my math is off but that seemed a tad long for the swing/ball speed
Thomas you do a great job keeping your swings very similar throughout your club reviews, and that is fantastic. It produces accurate information. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 thank you to the both of you for this review.

I've been gaming the G400 max for Years. I tried the G425 max and liked it a lot.
So i switched to the G425 max and I'm loving them.
Longer, straighter, more forgiving.
I don't like the sound on my hits. But I'll get use to that.👍🏌⛳🇺🇸😀
