Classic Mini Radius Arm Grease Tubes

- In preparation of restoring my subframes on my classic mini, the Radius arms were the first item on the list to re-build. Consequently, I had to learn how to disassemble and assemble which introduced some interesting details that I was unaware of - specifically should I use Plastic or Metal grease tubes and what exact was their function…
Yippee!!! The LONE STAR is back in 2023! Welcome back bro!
Hey Stu…. My mini effort is minimal, but still going
Great video... everyday's a school day , nice to see you back !!
Thanks Tim.. while I've not added any videos, I've not been completly idle.. a little effort here and there.. but it does feel good to give focus to my mini
Randy that was a fantastic dive into something i had never previously thought much about - This was great as i plan on restoring a set very soon. Glad to see you back on the tubes - i hope you and your family are well
Thanks Kevin! Only able to work on the mini in small spurts…. Yes… I know that term “very soon”. That describes most of my projects.. ha. All is well my friend
Outstanding job, thanks for helping to keep the knowledge alive!
Thanks Ed… small details always fascinate me…. I need to figure out how to do “shorts “…
@@LoneStarMini I'm not so sure all that great detail fits in a short!
Have missed you Randy ,welcome back ,hope to follow your journey getting the Mini back on the road
Thanks MadJock.. can only produce a few videos when I can. there may be more weeks/months of non-activity.. we shall see...
Glad to see you back
Thanks Robert!
very informative video Randy, great to see you back!
Thanks…. It’s good to focus on the mini a little… another good (I think) video coming up
looking forward to it! i just got all the things i needed for my welder the day before i left for a 4 week trip at work, but i hope to get stuck in when i get back and actually make some mini content for a change ahahahhaaha@@LoneStarMini
Hey Randy, not a problem helping out, great informative video, well done sir.
why Thank you Paul.. and the learning continues. Part 2 in the not so distance future.. defintely promoting metal sleeves
Glad you’re back
Thanks Robert!
Great video. Good to see the pup flag! Great club, good old Dee!
I freaking loved every second of this video. Super informative and I learnt many things I didn’t know as well as the importance of its actual purpose. Well done mate. Glad to see you back on RUclips 👌🏼
Thanks Chris!! I'm not back on a weekly basis, but perhaps I will attempt to show my progress in a few short videos in the near future. Currently working my rear subframe so I guess that will be my subject line for a bit..
Randy, I'm glad my WhatsApp to you yesterday about turning on the comments made you look at your channel settings. This has to be one of the best videos about radius
arms on RUclips. It would be great if you could do a follow up on the modification where you can add a grease nipple on the inner bushing or using a double bearing instead
of a brass sleeve. If you can grease both ends and not the middle of the shaft which does nothing but move the grease from one end to the other it makes sense. Cheers Dave
Thank you Dave… means a great deal coming from you. I have the general knowledge of adding a grease nipple on the bushing side, but don’t believe I have the tools for a clean and centered hole..
Hello. Glad to see ya
Thank you Lawrence.. it's good to be back give a little focus to the mini..
The nylon sleeves crack very easily when using a proper grease gun. I had my radius arms rebuilt and when I greased them up I noticed it was taking way too much. I dismantled the arms, removed the cracked nylon sleeves and replaced them with the metal ones from Japan. Do it cheap then do it twice.
Right on…. I believe they also crack during installation and people don’t even notice because they can’t see it. You may never need other tubes, but they are available at a much better price and better quality than Japan…. Thanks for sharing your experience!!
So I have just discovered after watching your video. The video is going to help many people so thank you@@LoneStarMini
Cool.. I don't have a reemiing tool. I was going to do radious arms myself like you said the kits are cheap enough but the tool in uk is around £140 us around $170 UK have people who do reconditioned radious arms fully painted for £120/150 so it may be more cost effective to swap mine out! 👍
Right on… I have more than one mini to do, therefore purchasing a reaming tool and doing everything myself is more beneficial….
@@LoneStarMini definitely 👍
Nice to see you again!.. Good episode 👏.. Do you have your own reeming tool for radious arms?..
Hey Richard, thank you. Yes, I have a reaming. Not sure I will make a video on that because so many others have done a great job
Hi Randy, what a great video. I have a pair of KAD alloy rear swing arms which I think are fantastic but one of them no matter how much grease I pump into it, I can't get the grease to come out of each bearing like it should. I am thinking possibly there is no grease tube in this particular swing arm.
A small detail that can possibly make a significant difference. You’ll have to let me know what you find when/if you rework your arms
I will do , thankyou
Great video! Can you share your source for the German made tubes.
Thank you and Absolutely, the ones from Germany (my favorite) are made by Daniel and his email is dani@strasserhof.com. Daniel does a great job… Hope that helps. Also, I believe he does have some in stock
Hi, where did you order each of them? Thanks 👍
The zinc plated tubes are from CATMINT although Mini Spares now sells them. The ones from Japan are from “Classic Minis Japan” (just Google the name). The ones from Germany (my favorite) are made by Daniel and his email is dani@strasserhof.com. Hope that helps
@@LoneStarMini very helpful, thank you. Probably worth putting it in the video description for all to see. Thanks again 👍
