Thank you for the really helpful materials on RUclips and for the very friendly course on Udemy. I have a question about the scream tone. After months of practice, I can roughly produce sounds similar to some presented in this video (like presented after 5:00), but I have no idea how to approach a scream that I would describe as more dry and compact. As examples from bands, I can mention In Flames, Bullet for my Valentine, or Killswitch Engage, but there are many of them (mostly in metalcore genre). I just can't seem to get close to it. It seems to me that I'm actually doing a (high) false chord scream rather than a "fry" scream, and that I'm somehow stuck on the latter type. Any advice?
People that you mentioned usually have more of their natural voice in their screams. They also sound much different on live shows. It would be easier to advise something specific if I could listen to your vocals. Feel free to send me a recording - xvocalcenter@gmail.com
For some people it comes more naturally. Will Ramos is using nasality for some of his highest screams but he can also get rid of it at will. Also, some people mistaken nasality with twang. You can distinguish one from another by closing your nose and opening it when screaming. If sound is changing while closing and opening the nose, it means the sound is nasal. Also, some people combine twang with nasality. Twang is created in epiglottis.
The question is too broad to answer it. It's like you asked "my leg hurts, what is wrong"? So many options. Check out free ebook and course dedicated to this topic. Links are in the description of this video: m.ruclips.net/video/j_8OTtjv0VI/видео.html
