Thank you for this segment. Having 4B/C hair, I assumed that I could never over moisturize my hair. NOT SO! I couldn't get my style to last through a day or two for almost a month and knew something was wrong. My hair was mushy, which was very odd and weird. I did a coconut pre-poo overnight, which helped my hair NOT to absorb too much water for the shampooing, etc. (Also, not thinking that the coconut oil provided my hair with extra protein) OMG, it did help my hair to perform better. You really need to learn and know your own hair and what yours needs. My 10 year journey has been an educational rollercoaster ride but well worth it. It has also helped to keep a hair journal. 💜 Love your channel! 🥰
This is awesome Desiree! And you are absolutely right! Most of us have been relaxed most of our lives so our natural hair is truly foreign to us. Its takes time, practice and more practice to truly understand your natural hair! Cheers to you to 10 years strong! 🥂
I am simply NOT a hair person, meaning I have no idea what I am doing. Your videos have helped me understand a little better and I thank you for that. I no longer get my hair done by a professional because she did not know about natural hair. I went to someone who did but she was NOT very gentle with detangling and I stopped going to her. Anyway, I have fine hair with gray and I am wondering about heat versus no heat when deep conditioning. How do you know which one you should do? Oh and how do you know how often you should use protein treatments?
A deep treatment typically involves some level of heat - either under a hooded dryer with a cap or a steamer with no cap. On average, a protein treatment once per month is a good landmark. And thank you so very much for your encouragement! So glad you are learning from these videos! If there is something you would like for me to discuss specifically let me know
Great analogies!!! Now I could definitely use more Info on how to apply protein and moisturizer. Please suggest which ones are the best. Do you use any homemade remedies for protein and moisturizers???
Hello there! My texture is medium and with a c shaped curl pattern. Or I guess some would say 4a/b BUT because I’m graying the texture is changing … my gray is wirey, coarse, some straight stands, waves … a little bit of everything 😂😂😂 if you look at other videos you can see my loose hair.
Hi Deborah! Moisture/Protein balance generally speaking, means you are doing moisturizing treatments about 80% of the time and 20% protein. (This is provided that you don't have permanent color, bleach, or flat iron often). So I call it the 80/20 rule! LOL! (I'm corny!). So for example, you can do a moisturizing treatment once per week (or every other week); and protein every 4 to 6 weeks. Does this make sense?
Thank you so much for your work on educating black women on ways to take care of our beautiful hair ❤
You are very welcome!
6:03 This is an excellent analogy for determining whether your hair needs deep moisture or protein. Thank you!
Thank you so much! So happy you got it! Was hoping it made sense!

Thank you! I think I know where I went wrong now (over moisturizing).
Glad you were able to identify the issue - now you know how to fix it 😜
May i ask your hair type? I haven’t seen someone who is as close with my own. Thanks!

Does this apply to when the hair is wet or dry?
Thanks
Hello there...wet hair.
How do I create a protein/ moisture balance???
