Hi Paula! I really liked that heritage and mining museum in Silverton. There was so much to see and learn! And that old steam locomotive was fantastic, coming right down the middle of that street with its whistle blowing; quite a sight to see! Do you know, is that historic train on a narrow-gauge rail? Quite a few years ago, we rode an historic narrow-gauge rail called the Cumbres and Toltec from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO and had a wonderful trip. It looked to me like those rails in Silverton were similarly narrow. If I'm remembering it right, they used narrow gauge out west in the late 19th and early 20th centuries specifically for help with mining, because it was much easier to lay out the narrower rails and beds in the remote, mountainous areas.

Yes, you're absolutely right! It is a narrow-gauge railroad. It is an incredible ride!!! So far we haven't taken anything that even compares. You can take the train and get off part-way to do a zipline that takes you over the trees through the mountains. My son has done this. I plan on talking more about the train when we cover Durango. It is such a neat experience. I'm glad you have an appreciation of the museums. It was a good one. I loved that it went underground to show the mining exhibits. As always, thanks for coming along with us.
