They were probably popped off by the super thick oil if it was bastid freezing when you first started it. The clips that hold the tubes in place go brittle over time, Plastic+oil+heat cycles = lots of broken bits (just ask BMW😂), so wouldn't have taken too much for the thick, cold oil to pop them out. On the plus side, at least you know the oil pump is strong😎 FYI, the W140s have similar parts in their heads too😉 Those rubber mounting blocks on the air cleaner are a service item. Again, oil and heat destroy them over time. Also not so great with solvent cleaners. Most manufacturers use them to stop things from rattling around, so should be really cheap/easy to get replacements. Those older Mercedes are designed to work, not to impress, which makes them pretty good to maintain. 👍
Wow MWM your are becoming a expert technician of MBZ... all learning by the school of hard knocks! Love these trials by fire and seeing you walk through the valley of fire! Long live MWM and Lola...
I’ve done the same procedure with my 420SEL and one thing you have to watch is the timing chain guides are made out of plastic so they usually need replacing also before they break.
So I just got home from shooting Freeda’s first outing and she died on me. She would cough and crank but not start. I was terrified the guide rails had broken. But after 45 minutes she started and drove better than ever! Lol
Always nice to see that you keep this Beauty in good shape - but may I point out: the oil pressure sensor on this car is bad. When you turned the ignition on, the oil pressure needle went up to “3” immediately which it’s not supposed to do cause the oil pressure obviously is “0” when the engine isn’t running. If the needle displays oil pressure anyway that’s a sure sign for a bad oil pressure sensor..
Good news, the oil line was in place as you started taking the cover off. You clipped the end near the firewall with the cam cover and popped it loose.
You got lucky! Plastic holders shrink over time and the tubes just pop out. Failure starts with holders on cylinder 8 and work their way to the front. Left side first. Can cause catastrophic engine failure if not fixed immediately. These holders should be replaced every 100K miles with timing chain and guides or at least every ten years.
Since I botched the last one so bad, I have to redeem myself! "Monkey wrench Mike, your assignment which you have already accepted is to bring all your Mercedes back to life!" "At times, to make a simple repair a complicated repair." (As with a recent oil change, perhaps?) This comment will self destruct in 5 seconds"
Excellent! I think it will take some time to pump up the lifters because you sucked some of the oil out them with the sweeper. It may have started smoothing out later on.
The first Mercedes I fell in love with was a 2003 Mercedes C230 supercharged! At the same time I bough my 2004 VW R32! Awesome car...but 18 years later I have a 2003 Passat W8 sedan with a 6-Speed manual transmission!!!
A close call. Liked it. But now to something completely different, remember Cato the censor? "Furthermore, I consider that building a W140 Rally Red Pig must be undertaken." 😁😁

Nice tune lol 🤣🤣🤣 I don't understand why they made it so fragile and so easily able to Pop out and cause catatrophic damage, everything else they over engineer but leave that.
Is working on your MB fleet, a form of 'decompression' to enable you to be your best at your 'paying' job? I (WE) give you lots of credit for all you get involved in (and take us along!) While many can be an "Anchor", very few can repair the 'ship'! Thank you sir! Sonny
Mike you know I'm a huge fan...but you have been coming up with some dark video titles lately. You ok buddy? Those damn German machines got ya down? Lol., I get it. You got so many too. Must be frustrating as hell.

EXCELLENT instruction, Mike! This is in my permanent MB 560SEC folder! Great idea with the straw!
Thanks Richard!!
You are a good mechanic bro.

Yes Yes Yes. And they need to be the genuine Mercedes guides. The generics are known to shatter.

@@MonkeyWrenchMike Holy crap, that would have scared the bageezuzzz out of me.
MWM needs a rubber mallet !
She sounds good now hopefully she will last a while longer. Brilliant work thanks for sharing this with us take care
Nice, Mike! A little tappy, tap, tap goes a long way!
One step for man is a small leap for Fanny. :)
What a great channel if you own a c126 or w126 or r107 Mike's got you covered on all the thing to to do before it's to late
I would never buy a Mercedes but I still watch your videos...
Hopefully this fix will help Fanny have a longer life 🙏
Mikey Likee wrenched👍 Love watching you wrench on these old beauties❗️ Keep em coming, Mike!

Great diagnosis. I replace that in the video I’m editing today. Thanks!

It was still very loose, shouldn't have come off that easy
Love this car
Thanks TK!

Good thing u looked into the issue otherwise the engine would be done for
Nice job with good work ethic. Thank you so much for sharing.

Your crazy Mike but very entertaining. Loved the flute .

Great job you killed it 👍🚘❤️💖🚙

Satisfying job there Mike, nice one 👍👍

Idle speed sounds low , I believe 780 would be ideal . My old 420 did that Harlem shake . It’s idle was 580 .
Great video brother, sucks about the problems
More of 560SEL. Proud owner as well ;)
Amazing cars!
Great work and video😀🇳🇴

Ha!! That’s amazingly good!!

Hellow Mike you can do it buddy good luck be safe an warm
Tell Randy I said hellow. See y'all again. Soon buddy
The shake is probably due to dirty injectors, remove them, clean and test each one. You can do a cheap DIY rig for this.
I have a video on just how to do it! Lol
Mine were also loose they were barely hanging on so I was lucky to change them just in time
Lucky!!

No damage this time Mike good idea putting cloths in the engine just in case
Love it Mike
Good video!
Do you have an ETA when the work will begin on the elegant old girl in the garage?
Very soon!!
my 420sel broken the timing chain guides. check those
Could that be fuel that's causing the engine to idol rough
Why does the engine vibrate? What is the problem?
What is the part number?
Hello 👋 my mister sir
It works!!!
I don’t understand why you didn’t replace all the plastic pieces, couldn’t have been too awful expensive, might save some trouble down the road
I did replace all the pieces on both sides. I purchased 2 kits. Maybe I should have explained that better.
You should buy good shop vac
Nice
Why. It you make at longhorn movies about cars
Heyyyy Lola
Great video Mike, what a stupid design
Mike you know I'm a huge fan...but you have been coming up with some dark video titles lately. You ok buddy? Those damn German machines got ya down? Lol., I get it. You got so many too. Must be frustrating as hell.
Man... Does Mercedes like to put little plastics and rubber that will break down into pieces overtime INSIDE their engines... 🤦♂️
Actually that was funny
MWM. SUNDAY FUNDAY. pizza in oven. 🐒🐒
