I absolutly love how you teach, for people that are learning disabled and for me dyslexic. I always feel dumb when I ask questions or come up with the wrong answer. You make me feel good with the people that are on your utube. They ask the questions I would ask and then you don't put them down you help them understand and build them up. Also you use alot of pictures and numbers which I need both. Also the other positve is you don't only show whats in the question you go out and show more examples. Which for people like me need every situation possible give. I apprieate you doing these utube videos. I have learned more watching these then I have trying to follow anyone else I have tryied. I know there are more like you, but your the first I came across. Thank you so very much and thank you to the students that helped out.

17:04 was telling it how it is. School teaches us how to process learning in a way where we just write the steps, know the facts about the steps, do the steps right, make sure you don't mess up any steps, and then that's how you '' calculate '' your answers. It's literally more of a calculated type of teaching; relating to like how you would plug everything into a calculator to find the answer, vs us being taught how to think about things more logically. Like the focus isn't on: ok how or what would this look like in REAL LIFE. How would this apply in REAL LIFE. They give us examples of course, but you're still trained to think more in a calculated sense. So you may get confused, and you're not really focused or even know how to think in real life situations. So when you said " you got experience to tap into... A life time of learning, a life time of completing tasks." this was so important for me. Knowelede and the basic understanding of what we obtain, and then being able to apply that in the real world in a sense of logic is so key. I thought that was a major and brilliant point made!

In case you didn’t notice, I have a bone to pick with the way math is taught in schools... There should be (almost) no class more useful and practical to daily life than math... and yet the way it’s taught is the opposite. I can almost guarantee that outside of a math class you will not have to isolate a variable at any point in your life or use the quadratic formula (unless your going into the sciences)...

I have to give props to you Mr.Toohey, the way you explained her like, its alright that you tried dividing. I was like lol wtf why is she dividing, the answer literally comes from subtracting the values, but you acted like oh you are doing great in that situation as well. 31:12

For the first question, a easy way to do it if the question is similar. Just use the common variable of ten task then multiply both time and task by what is needed for the task to be equivalent. Sense that makes no sense here is what I mean.
10t x 4 = 40tt for total task.
22.5m x 4 = 90tm for total minutes.
This in a way is like a weird fraction. Sense this is the correct choice, both check out and equal the original values.
If it didn't check out like say
10t x 4 = 40tt
2.25m x 4 = 9tm
Then that answer is wrong sense only the correct values would align on both sides.

The questions get tougher for the QAS section (quantitative reasoning, algebra, and statistics) and advanced algebra and functions... for the arithmetic section, however, everything I teach in the video applies!

As an adult studying for this test, I spit water out of my nose at 20:42. If I hadn’t similarly studied the metric system my first go around in college I might not be studying for the accuplacer now lol.

I am sorry but I just couldn't catch on to how you got the answer for number 13. Can someone please help me to understand it?
No problem! Look, if you know the number of tasks for any number of minutes, you can find the number of tasks PER MINUTE by dividing the tasks by the minutes! So, for example if he is doing 40 tasks in 90 minutes, that equals 40/90 or .44 tasks per minute… do the same operation with the answer choices (divide the tasks b the minutes) and see if you can find the answer choice that also gives you .44

I take my accuplacer in 3 hours , I been watching these videos, but how can I do it without a calculator 😩
Don’t worry! Many of the questions give you access to the calculator… for those that don’t, you can often use the logic, common sense, and estimation strategies I teach in the course!
@@MichaelToohey I failed by 3 points. She’s giving me another shot next week. I fumbled on the pizza questions with the fractions. When one person eats 1/3 and the other eats 1/4 how many did the other person eat. I need help finding an equation like that
You’re so close to passing!! On a question like that, I wouldn’t mess around with equations, I would recommend drawing a picture… did you draw a picture?
