Jensen's 2011 Worlds performance will forever be the greatest competition freestyle, precisely because it wasn't a **competition** freestyle. A true work of art. We'll probably never see something so elegant on the stage again because it doesn't score well (which is a shame).
These are all from 2012-2015, but I feel like we owe so much to the yoyo renaissance around 1997-2001. I feel like an old, old man, but 23 years later I still remember Alex Garcia's 1998 Nationals freestyle causing the yoyo world to collectively fold inside out to the beat of the...Dutch Eurodance group "Doop"? 4A was in its infancy, 5A was still a twinkle in Steve Brown's tattooed eyes, and Greg Cohen's Infinite Illusions was the most popular yoyo store at yoyoguy.com. "Unresponsive" was what we called a first-generation Cherry Bomb whose cheap plastic had its starbursts worn off, before throwing it in the trash.
Shu Takadas and gentry steins routines are definetly my favorites, though i would say Shu takes the win for me by a little bit. That dance is just golden
My personal favorite gentry freestyle has to be the 2015 nationals one, but i do agree that the 2014 worlds performance is much more iconic and innovative
Paul Kerbel doesn't have a playstyle well suited to the competition but his tricks are in my opinion some of the most crazy and creative. All of his performances are legendary
1: Evan Nagao’s 2017 US national yoyo contest final performance 2: Shu Takada’s 2012 WYYC final performance 3: Hajime Miura’s 2015 WYYC final performance 4: Garbkamol Limangkul’s 2017 AP final performance 5: Gentry Stein’s 2014 WYYC final performance
I think that Christopher Chia's 2011 AP win and Marcus Koh's 2011 worlds win should have definitely been in here tbh. Chris just absolutely nailed it and the whole performance was iconic, and Marcus switched 3 times and still came first, not to mention his completely unique set of tricks. Would love to see an updated version of this video in a few years time, there's been some amazing routines recently :)
One freestyle that I think should have made this list is Anthony Rojas' 2015 worlds routine. Every single one of his tricks was perfectly in line with the music and his horizontal tricks are extremely risky and creative.
Three of the five freestyles are from WYYC 2015... I still think that WYYC 2016 Gentry's routine, despite not winning, is his most engaging freestyle to date, even better than 2014 when it comes to performance. I would like to see Evan Nagao 2015 US Nationals, Ethan Cheung WYYC 2017 and mostly Paul Kerbel 2014 EYYC Open. But I really enjoyed the fact that every category was present in this list!
What about John Ando's 2008 World Championship 1A. He took first from Suzuki and Suzuki was on a 3 win streak? John's arm through style was mind blowing.
I'm prob stupid bc it's almost 3 years later but Evan Nagoa just dropped the nastiest 1A freestyle for 2022 usa nationals i've ever seen. I wonder if this list can be re made?
1,Classy in yo-yoing does not exist because people are hyped about everything that's amazing, so being quite is not considered classy. 2,Jensen asked the audience to be quite, because the entire theme of his freestyle is to break the stereotypes of competing but only few people understood it. 3,Enthusiastic is not the only "amazing" part of competing, the art/athletic form of yo-yoing it self is to express different styles and at that time, Jensen might be the only one that did it which is revolutionary, but again people does not take risks.
Chris Kim sorry but I meant to say engaging not enthusiastic. I really don’t think the performance should be only engaging to make it the best performance of all time, but this is what the top 5 is about. the style that he presented didn’t fulfilled this criteria, it could be if the criterias were tweaked a bit. by the way Jensen is my favorite yoyoer. 2010 🤔 when he did this he wasted like 20 seconds doing binds thinking what to do next 😂 and he still pulled a win. just like the 2A player, Im just saying.
+Chris Kim apparently his 2011 freestyle was dedicated to his mother who died prior to it, this probably contributes to the reason he asked the crowd to be quiet.
My boi Shin takin' his 2nd yotricks contest win! Im proud to be your friend and co team mate on team... You will find put soon if follow us on instagram! Stay toooned
I HATE this video. It's not like these routines weren't awesome. They where. But leaving Jensen Kimmitt (the GOAT btw) off a list like this is pure heresy.
Pankace04 That was an indicator that we considered it, but felt it was not right or this list. I consider that freestyle a yoyoer’s freestyle, but this list was more about what routines would work outside of the competitive stage.
yotricks The video is "top 5 yoyo freestyles." Doesnt that make it a compilation of yoyoers' freestyles? I might be a Jensen Stan but that freestyle should have been #1.
Pankace04 Watch the intro, we explain what we mean by best. When I said it is a yoyoers freestyle, I meant it is a freestyle you need to be a player to appreciate. It was legendary for the context in which it happened. Remove it from the competitive context of the year it happened, however, and it does not compare as favorably when thinking about what is engaging to non players.

Jensen's 2011 Worlds performance will forever be the greatest competition freestyle, precisely because it wasn't a **competition** freestyle.
A true work of art. We'll probably never see something so elegant on the stage again because it doesn't score well (which is a shame).
I have watched that Jake Elliot routine so many times - still blows my mind.
Jakes 2015 routine is exactly what finally made me pull the trigger and start learining.
These are all from 2012-2015, but I feel like we owe so much to the yoyo renaissance around 1997-2001. Why never mention hiroyuki suzuki?
He is the father of performance
Inspired by Brent dellinger
Those are awesome freestyles!!! Congrats Shintake! Thanks for the feature!
dang man... i was scrolling through old yotricks vids and found this... so long ago :')
Jensen 2010 is my favorite
What about jensen's worlds freestyle? It should of been in there
It was at the start, but I guess popularity and entertainment is the real factor here.
that’s the greatest freestyle of all time in my opinion
I love the fact that the top 5 moments are consisting of each style once.
I loved this channel!!
2015 Nationals is pretty great!
Thx for putting my trick in the top 6 of your video you guys rock👌👌👌😁
I still enjoy Gentry steins 2015 us national win.
Only 5? Haha there’s too many
For our first top X video we didn't want to bite off more than we could chew XD
news shion araya
Agree with the list. Gormely 2015 wyyc, Bergen 2017 wyyc, Kerbel 2014 wyyc and 2015 semi. All 1st in my book
Right now the #1 would be Evan Nagao's 2019 final performance. It is out of this world
How about Paul Kerbel with his backflips?
shu takada has a lot of backflips as well
jensen kimmitt 2010 world
i think instead of Genty's 2014 win, the should have his 2015 win. He won with a 16$ yoyo!
We debated that one, for sure. We were split on which one we like better.
yay adam is back
Paul Kerbel doesn't have a playstyle well suited to the competition but his tricks are in my opinion some of the most crazy and creative. All of his performances are legendary
Agreed.
1: Evan Nagao’s 2017 US national yoyo contest final performance
2: Shu Takada’s 2012 WYYC final performance
3: Hajime Miura’s 2015 WYYC final performance
4: Garbkamol Limangkul’s 2017 AP final performance

All of my favorite yoyo era from each style is on this list!! 😄
Ethan Chueng 2017 Worlds.
Papaya Yo young something I can most definitely agree with.
I loved that prrformance but still i think zach is the one missing
Yesss 100%
Agreeded
One freestyle that I think should have made this list is Anthony Rojas' 2015 worlds routine. Every single one of his tricks was perfectly in line with the music and his horizontal tricks are extremely risky and creative.
best player ever is jensen to me. I know he might be a little old school, but i love the way he plays.
Three of the five freestyles are from WYYC 2015... I still think that WYYC 2016 Gentry's routine, despite not winning, is his most engaging freestyle to date, even better than 2014 when it comes to performance. Can you guys make tutorials on how to make tech combos?
One of the best routine I have ever seen is zach's world 2015. One of the routines that always inspires me
Can you guys do either a reverse brent stole tutorial, a behind the back basics tutorial, or a slack to slack trick tutorial?
What about John Ando's 2008 World Championship 1A. He took first from Suzuki and Suzuki was on a 3 win streak? John's arm through style was mind blowing.
That's mindblowing😨
where can i buy these decent yoyos in the uk, i dont fancy paying an arm and leg import tax as well as shipping fee.
I'm prob stupid bc it's almost 3 years later but Evan Nagoa just dropped the nastiest 1A freestyle for 2022 usa nationals i've ever seen. I wonder if this list can be re made?
No1 mentioning Janos Karancz, I'"m really surprised.
Zach Gormley 2015 world's, Evan Nagao 2017 Nationals, Tessa Piccillo Worlds Final 2017
Just some 35yo guy that found my old Dale Oliver's Tornado from my childhood and went down the yoyo rabbit hole.
Nice!
Gentry perform with Razor Sharp music. Ohhhh.....can't forget that moment.
#4 IS LIT
Steve Brown's blindfolded freestyle should be on here
Gormley 2015
Where I can see the gentry yoyo song video
Yuuki Spencer, Evan nagao, Paul Han, Joseph Harris
6:40 what was that song
What if we do a bind and then regenerate the yoyo and bind a second time. do both binds count?
Julie Pulsifer count as clicks for a contest? If so, if you do the same bind, then no
Julie Pulsifer wait im dumb, only your final bind because your supposed to catch it in a cool way too
Jensen Kimmitt WYYC 2011. No returns to hand, all Regens. Imo
I feel like you guys should do top 5 in all divisions
What about Hajime Miura's 2017 EJA finals?
How about your freestyles Adam?
I love them!
#dontforgetadam
;)
wow, the only 1 throw freestyle was not on the list? speechless.... (2011 jensen worlds)
Not the only 1 throw freestyle: ruclips.net/video/DE5zdvgtCi8/видео.html
i wonder if adam
have seen hajime miura now in 4a
What about Marcus Koh's 2011 freestyles, He had 2 switchouts and still won.
Marcus Koh 2011 Worlds?
I think evan nagaos 2018 routine was amazing and should be on that list, you know, the one which he won the world cup with
is the atlas responsive to throwdown/gravity throw
*2:30*
song from epic minigames lobby on roblox
nostalgia
jensen 2010 worlds
2011 was better, 1 throw playin for 2:20min
Chris Kim yes it was awesome but it was quite and not enthusiastic, it was classy.
1,Classy in yo-yoing does not exist because people are hyped about everything that's amazing, so being quite is not considered classy.
2,Jensen asked the audience to be quite, because the entire theme of his freestyle is to break the stereotypes of competing but only few people understood it.

gracias
4:03 that was verry funny tho ;D
I think zach gormleys wyyc15 winning FS was better than gentry's wyyc14 final winning FS
When you look at Zach Gormley's carrier...
My boi Shin takin' his 2nd yotricks contest win! Im proud to be your friend and co team mate on team... You will find put soon if follow us on instagram! Stay toooned
The last one had me shook 😂
Jensen 2010
Why are people not liking it
What about Rei iwakura?
Andrew bergan 2017 worlds?
What about Dennis's ill state 2a freestyle?
That one was high on our list, for sure!
yotricks YOU SOOOO SHOULD HAVE PUT THAT ONE IN THE LIST, THAT ROUTINE WAS GOD TIER
Gentry's replay national win
Marcus Koh 2011 2 Switches 1 Restart still CHAMPION
No one can do that
The rules were changed after this routine to penalize switches and restarts. Those rules were not in place when he won.
What music video was Gentry in?
Kaija Shanteau baby raptors-strings
It was with the band Baby Raptors.
yotricks me on the outside "ok thanks" me on the inside " oh...oh... OH MY GOSH YOTRICKS RESPONDED TO MY COMMENT"
Quintin godet.. Not sure if that's the right spelling and not sure what year or contest. (I think 2017 eyyc?) you'll know it when you see it.
When he goes clean it is quite impressive!
yotricks That's fair, although his recovery always makes me smile every time.
Zach is missing, he's way too good for not being included in a video like this in my opinion
I learned jake elliots freestyle very very hard
Paul Kerbel 2014?
Zach Gormley 2015 worlds
So nothing happened in toying before 2010? 2000 Worlds for 2A was SICK.
Truly
Do a tutorial on triple or nothing
hajime miura, 2018, 4a
Note squad represent
take that freestyle? 2011 AP crhistopher chia
I guess jake elliot was in the zone during his performance
I think Yuwa Sakai's 2017 JN shouldve been there.. double 5A performance
Rey’s 2016 should be at least a mention
i feel motivated
You for got even nagao 2018 1a 1st place
You forgot Janos Karancz 2013 worlds
Yicheng Luo WYYC 2008: Best one hand trick ever

shinji saito 2005
I HATE this video. It's not like these routines weren't awesome. They where. But leaving Jensen Kimmitt (the GOAT btw) off a list like this is pure heresy.
You must have missed him, we did include him.
yotricks but not on the list, just a short clip. Not the same.
Pankace04 That was an indicator that we considered it, but felt it was not right or this list. I consider that freestyle a yoyoer’s freestyle, but this list was more about what routines would work outside of the competitive stage.
