I’ve been experimenting this summer with Cyanotype printing. It’s a monotype printing process that creates these amazing monochromatic pieces by exposing a sensitized surface to the sun. Today I am sharing how I used primed canvases to create this splashy blue wonders. Like most things I dive into, I discover that planning, and time are key.
For this project I used the following supplies:
    Jacquard Cyanotype kit
    primed canvas
    spray bottle with water
    plant material
glass plate (For smaller projects I use the glass from a picture frame. )
    water for washing

fabulous, many thanks for sharing. I can buy these canvases fairly cheap here in Australia from craft shops are they already primed? Do i need to prepare them in any way. Ive only been making the wet cyanotypes for 3 weeks and I am hooked. Just love the unpredictable.

I didn’t do anymore to them. The canvas is more unpredictable than paper or fabric- have fun!

What did you prime the canvas with? Was it just a cheap store bought canvas? Or a certain kind?

I didn’t prime them they were bought at Michaels and they were the inexpensive ones

I tried one just sprayed with water it didnt do what yours did, did you have vinegar in the water too? Its an unpredictable process on the canvas, but it worked. Not happy with mine so will recoat and start again. Great fun

I do not use vinegar. I’ve tried other techniques like Lemon juice and baking soda. Or sprinkled Turmeric. But on the canvas you will get funky backgrounds because it’s not porous and the cyanotype solution dries uneven . Try water colour paper if your having trouble.

Yes let them dry. It dries streaky on canvas but that part of the charm
