I know this is an older video but I’m hoping you’ll see this message. I got my father and 2 boys ages 5 and 9 out on the roads this past week. This video and specifically the twin falls were my motivation to make this trip happen. We made it to the falls and we were blown away by the area. Thank you for all of the time, energy, and effort y’all put into your videos. Safe travels and hope to see you out there!
I thoughrouly enjoyed this video..my daughter has a 2018 four door black Jeep sport manual transmission...she lived in NC in Canton up in the mountains in a beautiful log home...her dream..a log home in the mountains and a Jeep...but she sold her log home to become a traveling Respiratory therapist...I absolutely love NC and SC and Tennessee...my family has been to all the places you traveled... really makes me miss her home...I want a Jeep of my own...I live in Missouri...no mountains but beautiful scenery.
First, I watched the entire trip. I grew up in the Foot Hills of the Smokey Mountains, Walland to be exact. Now I live in Kansas City for the past 21 years, its so nice to see the laurel trees and the streams that I took for granted when i was a kid. Like someone else said If you haven't went through Cades Cove its beautiful. I use to ride my bike up to it and go around when I was probably 11. Yep that was before helicopter parents. (Mid 70's) Thank you for taking me back! P.S. There use to be some great 4 wheeling trails around Chilhowee (sp) lake and Fontana lake you may have been on some of them not positive. I know you said Santeela (again sp) lake. I have fished on all of those many times, GREAT now I'm home sick. Thanks Again!
Thanks for your video of this area. After watching it I loaded up our Jeep Wrangler and the wife and Wiener dog headed out from Texas and completed about 800 miles of this trail. In So. Carolina there were several dead end detours so we missed some of this trail. We camped in our Gazell tent every night on rushing waters. Great trip and we thank you again for your videos. We are retired and I'll be taking my wife to see many places across this USA. THANKS AGAIN
It is so awesome to watch a video like this. It saves me lots of time and money. I can just sit and watch this and dream. Lol you guys did a great job.
Great video, but its not the same as the feeling you get cruising slowly through the woods and turning a curve, or cresting a hilltop and finding something akin to heaven on earth!
Great video. Deb is not only a very good videographer but a great cook too. You sir, are quite handy at piloting your jeep. Thanks for a calm cool look at overlanding comforatably through the Smokies.
Great video thank you. My wife and I follow your channel religiously and absolutely love the way you overland. It's exactly what we're trying to do. We hope to explore some of that area around the week of Thanksgiving. Keep up the GREAT content.
Like another person commented, from Memphis but grew up in Vegas and SD. I’ve done about 50-60% of the trails in UT, NV, CA and AZ. Also spent a lot of time in Baja. We moved to Greenville last year and wasn’t sure what I’d find for 4x4 adventure. Your videos, Simply Must Go and a few others have given me quite a few places to check out. Trying to get my old Dodge ready, wiring harness is the current project. After 15 yrs of wheeling it’s needed some TLC. Hope to run into you out there someday, thank you.
AWESOME!!! My wife and I love the smokey mountains, love our jeep and love the road less traveled and were absorbed in this trip with you guys! Thanks for family video and sharing such an adventure with us!
Great video. Love the occasional comments from the wife and the fact that you guys are older, giving me hope for planing a similar trek after I retire, if not sooner. I also like the fact that the rigs are not crazy over the top vehicles. Congratulations and look forward to your next adventures.
Are those the mountains ⛰ from the song 🎵 On top of old smokey, all covered in snow ❄ 🎵. It's really beautiful there and know you had a ball there. From South Africa Wishing you many more trips. Enjoy and cheers 🍻.
WOW, we spend a great deal of time in Western NC and Eastern TN (Great Smoky Mountain area) and never heard of this until I saw your video. Looks like an amazing adventure and we need to do this. Thank You for sharing this.
1:32:01 Amazing stuff! I gotta go and get out there! Right here in the south... (I live in Alabama) There's so much life to live, isn't there? Living the dream! And thanks for the hard work putting these videos together!
I really enjoyed “riding along”, just discovered, and subscribed to, your channel today as a RUclips suggestion… It’s refreshing to see a Jeep channel with a more mature viewpoint. I’ve wanted a Jeep for a couple of years now to further my landscape photography work, circumstances just haven’t been right yet.
I thoroughly enjoyed this entire video. I am really looking forward to getting my jeep fully outfitted for some trips like this. My wife and I are going to spend some time together in the mountains doing this very thing… We can’t wait. Thanks for the video
Love what you are doing with your channel. It’s just the type of overlanding I am interested in doing. I hope before very long I can tackle the Smokey Mountain 1000 as well.Hope to see more of your trips in the future!!!
What a wonderful video...!!! I enjoy it from the beginning all the way to the end, you guys did a great job filming this adventure and thank you for sharing this we us ... this is a road trip that is on my to go list and I will try to get the GPX-file to use on Gaia
Love the video, my wife and I recently purchased our first 4 door jeep wrangler and always had a passion for the outdoors. This is something we are seriously looking doing. Thank u again for sharing
Absolutely love the video! Took me a few days myself to find time to watch it through but worth every minute. As a resident of middle-NC I hadn’t known about this large loop. Now I’m wanting to plan my own adventure around it.
I love your accent, you talk just like my in-laws except my wife she has a strong southern draw like southern Georgia. I’m going to be buried in the family plot. This is where we got Married. In the foot hills of the Appalachia foot hills. Nothing there’s but forgotten people. People dear to us. I will be the first yankee to be laid to rest with my family in Kentucky. I will be on a hill looking East. Been married 51 yrs. My wife and I love Kentucky and her people 🤗🇺🇸 Michigan
I want to tell you one more think about my Kentucky in-laws when I married into this southern clan I was shock! They hugged me. Loved me kiss me neve Ethan that happened to me. I now belonged to the Ford./Perkins clan, there was250 of them and now I was their position and all their southern resources went to me and my wife for love and success. And all of me and Carol Ann went to them . They hugged me and kiss me and that never happened to me before. I was just23 yrs b old and all of my wife’s aunt’s wanted to raise me . They kept telling my wife “ we thought you would never get married” she was 23. Her aunts fed me so much I thought I would burst. Kentucky people are the best in the world.
My brother and I just did hurricane creek with two completely stock trucks on some slightly larger mud tires. His is a 1990 k1500 single cab short bed and I did it in a 3500 quad cab dually. Picked out lines and drove very careful but no damage besides some possible scratches. A couple of those rocky section I didn't know if I was going to make it due to the size of my vehicle.. Camped at the first campsite the night before and woke up to beautiful scenery.
Had no idea that "the" Smokey Mountain 1000 was a thing until yesterday. That looked like an amazing and fun trip. I watched the whole thing! Honestly there was a good mixture of roads interjected in this trip so you weren't jarring your bodies the whole time. Congratulations on 1.3M views too. You narrate the video and film it, nicely. Enjoyed seeing all the waterfalls. I have one nagging question though, when on those very narrow forest roads what happens if you meet another vehicle coming towards you. I would be hard pressed to drive in reverse on some of those roads? Is there a rule of the backroads about this? Thanks for sharing this amazing trip with us.
Thank you! Downhill has the right away. Generally, both drivers work together to figure out a solution. Depending on the situation, you may have to back up.
What a wonderful trip and a wonderful video. We live in Tryon, NC, south of Asheville, so much of the NC and SC paths we somewhat familiar, but most of the TN and GA were new to us. I now have some new destinations. You have a new fan.
Great video!! Looks like an amazing trek through some of my favorites places. Something to note for others who follow this route. That awesome spot on old NC 105 on the west side of Linville Gorge…it’s not a camp site. Parking to hike is allowed but rescue had to have clear access to the gated Wolfpit West (117) forest service road.
Not sure which site you are referring to as the night we camped on 105 their search and rescue and law enforcement from the area hung out with us for about an hour.🤷♀️ Nothing was said then maybe it has changed.
Wow, thanks so much for the video log of y’all’s trip. That was some beautiful scenery. We live in the foothills of the Smoky mountains near Cosby TN. and get to see the frozen frost covered trees much of the (short) winter season. I applaud you on your preparedness and your video skills. We’ve only lived here three years and I had no idea that there were so many cool forest roads near us. I wish I would have bought a 4x4 instead of our fusion! Thanks again!
Awesome to see another Kentuckian! I’m stationed in New York now, but originally from Kentucky. Hoping to get a jeep after I return from deployment. This looks like a great trail.
Thank you for sharing this adventure! I used to frequent BLM land in the California Sierra Nevada mountains, and now am in South Carolina. I was disappointed in the lack of places to go off-roading and overlanding. Almost everything out here is private property! This is exactly what I have been looking for, for about 4 years now.
@@CoddiwompleOverland Thank you for the reply. I see that the Carolina Adventure route seems to have a lot of pavement, with some dirt and gravel roads mixed in. The local one around here is horsepasture road, and I did that one a couple years ago. Its a pretty drive, all graded gravel with no real challenges. The view of the lake at the end makes it a great day trip. I will check out the GA traverse tomorrow and see what they offer. What are the other few adventure routes near me you are referring to? Or did you mean just the Carolina one and the GA one? Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your trek in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Such different scenery compared to the pacific northwest Washington area. You should try out here if you ever find a way here. Lots of forest road to explore.

I'm hooked on your overlanding videos!! We'd like to try the first part of this trip you did as it's close to us (Statesville, NC). Asheville, Grandfather Mtn., etc. is close by for us to try a few days or more of this type of getting around with our Jeep. I may have missed it, but do you have the tracks for the first segment you accomplished? On a map, I can't seem to follow your exact route as sometimes you only refer to a dirt road - not a criticism, as the road may not be named or numbered. I'd be happy to purchase the track if it's available. Again, AWESOME videos!!
Thanks for following along. Below is our Patreon with all our tracks. patreon.com/CoddiwompleOverland?Link& You can also go to Smoky Mountain 1,000 Facebook page for a free map download. Ours is a little different as we get off trail from time to time to explore surrounding areas.
@@CoddiwompleOverland Thanks so much...I'll definitely pay monthly as I appreciate all the time you put into this and how much it can benefit people like me that will use and follow your tracks. Quick question, can your tracks be somehow loaded onto google maps or do they require a specific program such as Garmin, etc.?
Great video of the Smoky Mountains. Being from Greenville, S.C. and currently living in Tucson, AZ I really missed seeing home and the country that I grew up in. I want to do this route next summer after I retire from work.
I’ll be getting a new off-road vehicle by summer of 2023, it would sure be nice too find / meet some fellow overlander travelers to enjoy traveling with like y’all.
From stunning landscapes to cozy campfires, this video is a reminder of the simple yet incredible joys of overlanding.
Thanks!

I just found your channel. I LOVE your videos. Keep up the great videos!!!
Thank you very much. Glad you found us.
I'll be retiring there this year hopefully 👍
It's a beautiful area for sure

You can also go to Smoky Mountain 1,000 Facebook page for a free map download.
You can load them into Gaia, Google Earth, Avena, or Onx.
awesome video thanks for sharing

Great video of the Smoky Mountains. Being from Greenville, S.C. and currently living in Tucson, AZ I really missed seeing home and the country that I grew up in. I want to do this route next summer after I retire from work.
Thanks for watching!
Great video, I hope you y'all continue to do more.
Thank you! We plan to
being from Louisiana did not think about road closed due to snow or ice. waiting on camper top for new pickup to go check out some of this country.
Thanks for watching!
Great overlanding
Thank you!
I’ll be getting a new off-road vehicle by summer of 2023, it would sure be nice too find / meet some fellow overlander travelers to enjoy traveling with like y’all.
Going to Overland events in your area is the best way to connect with like minded people to start your travels.
