      Awh! Thank you so much for that! I’m always so worried I’m going to bore my viewers, it’s so good to hear I haven’t bored you yet 😂!
      I’m also so out of practice with filming I keep having to refilm because I keep messing up 🤓
      Hopefully I will get better as I film this collection update 🤗

    great to see you having such good success. It's a shame it hasn' t got more likes but I can understand, it goes against what so many believe makes them good growers (ie careful watering practices which is needed much more in organic media). I'm really grateful you have shown what can be done, even if many do struggle growing like you. I generally prefer self watering pots myself and went off water culture but you have shown its more the care and understanding that we provide whatever media we use and even glass pebbles and a wick can work well. I just wanted to address a comment you made about the pendulum producing keiki's because of what you were doing and I'd be really surprised if that were the case. Watering and fertilizing should not affect it producing keiki's, in nature they continuously receive nutrients and moisture, what makes a dendrobium produce keikis very often is changing it's growing environment and in particular altering it's light hours at the wrong time. At certain times of the year it is critical not to change the light hours and if one accidentally does then it will be more likely to produce keikis. This happens very often when buying an orchid and the growers go online looking for an answer and the answer is you watered your orchid. Well no, actually. Only resting orchids need a definitive dry rest and if you don't provide it the orchid can accidentally "wake up" too early. Just like Tulips too. But all other orchids including seasonal dendrobiums although can tolerate long dry periods well really don't need it and gain no benefit from a dry rest unlike what is believed. More thought needs to go on light intensity and light duration. When we get the seasonal dendrobiums from the shop their circadian rythm is all messed up, they roughly know when they are meant to flower but they expect in spring for example when they like to flower for light hours to slowly increase and temperatures to get warmer but spending time in the post or us providing completely different conditions it was previously being grown in will cause it to produce keiki's. Watering and fertilizing is blamed far too easily when they are not the cause at all.

    Very nice video. As disappointing as it might be when something we are growing fails, it’s also incredibly exciting when things not only don’t fail, but even exceed our expectations. It’s so fascinating to watch how the different plants grow.
    As I work at growing Orchids, and now by extension a garden, I find that it is wonderful exercise in not getting discouraged, but rather taking our “failures” and using them as learning experiences to improve as we move forward….not always an easy thing to do! It has certainly been an enriching experience for me. There is nothing as satisfying and encouraging as seeing the beautiful results of love and hard work.
    As far as content going forward goes, if you want to breakdown things based on type, that sounds good to me. It would certainly make for a very cohesive presentation. I would, personally, also like to hear about your fertilizing particulars as you change things up product wise or for seasonal purposes. I find fertilizing routines to be one of my favorite subjects in Orchid (or any growing) videos.
    Anyway, thanks again another video. I hope your New Year has been a good one so far. ☺️

      Thank you so much for sharing your perspective on growing orchids!
      I really appreciate you commenting with your experience and I am pleased you are enjoying your orchids and garden so much.
      I am in the process of filming a collection series by type and hope to release one video a week.
      I am glad to hear you enjoy the fertilizer videos. I always feel like those types of videos may be boring to my viewers but I haven’t made one in a while so perhaps I can add that in at some point.
      I hope you have a lovely week!
      Thank you for watching!

I just received my vanilla yesterday via a mail order. I will give it another day or two and see if I am brave enough to convert it. If I do I will use your method with the pebbles and micro fiber. As always, happy growing :)

      I was nervous to grow it in WC since I killed my first vanilla so I had to work up my courage as well. I let it get acclimated to my grow room for a few weeks before I switched it over.
      I’m surprised at just how well it’s done!

    Good to see the experiment plants have done well. One thing I notice with the Zygo is that it is maturing much more slowly than a plant grown in organic media. I would have expected that second bulb to be twice as large as the first one, based on my own plants.
    Den victoria-reginae shouldn't be given a winter rest, they typically grow year round. If it stops growing, then you can stop feeding, but otherwise treat it the same year round.

    • @daniellesorchidranch1591
      @daniellesorchidranch1591  2 года назад

      Thank you for watching the video and leaving feedback!
      I think I am under feeding my Zygo, I don’t know why I had it stuck in my head they didn’t like to be fertilized…. I’ve got to start writing the care down so I don’t make mistakes like this. I’ve been giving it almost no fertilizer 🙄.
      While I am at it I will make a note about the VG not being a winter rester.
      I’ve been a bad orchid parent lately, I’ve had to throw a few out because they didn’t make it 😔
      That’s the thing about water culture especially, you can’t let life derail your concentrated care because it will affect the plants.

    • @michaelmccarthy4077
      @michaelmccarthy4077 2 года назад

      @@daniellesorchidranch1591 yeah, a lot of people have this idea that Zygos don't like feed. I feed mine 300-400 ppm all the time and I hardly flush them. I'm not suggesting you go that high in w/c, but don't be afraid to start bumping it up to see what it can handle.
      I get it on the life derailing and plants suffering, we all go through it. But even for those using other growing methods, if you don't live in the tropics and they get neglected, they're going to suffer. I actually think those growing in leca have the least flexibility because the leca beads will suck the moisture right out of the roots, killing them, if it goes dry. Look at it this way, it weeded out the weaklings that perhaps should have been tossed anyway.

    • @daniellesorchidranch1591
      @daniellesorchidranch1591  2 года назад +1

      @@michaelmccarthy4077 ok great information! Thank you! I will start slowly increasing feed so I don’t overload them.
      And you are right the ones that are gone are the ones who had one root out the door already so although I’m disappointed I realize that they probably would have gone eventually anyway.
      I agree about the leca, that’s actually why I was never tempted to try it and opted for the glass beads instead. They don’t hold any moisture but they also don’t desiccate roots either.
      Thanks for the understanding, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it 🥰

    American Beauty is stunning 😍 Love ❤ her. I see your Sansai blue is in spike again, jealous. I think my issues on my vandas not blooming is not enough light. I was talking to someone on a group and they think the same and I'm in Arizona! Go figure. Think I'm gonna put them outside in the early morning hours this spring (too cold now) and run an oscillating sprinkler for about 30 mins daily. Still think about you and the heart wrenching 💔 😢 loss of your fur babies. I feel your pain. Hang in there dear friend.

      I struggled for almost 4 years to get her to finally bloom but now that she is she just keeps going! I hope that happens for you soon!
      I do give her nice strong light. After this spike fades I have to find a larger vase for her because her roots are completely out of control. I hope that doesn’t set her back 🤨
      Thank you for your support, it is a daily struggle to deal with my loss and it helps to know others understand.
      We have decided to get a puppy to give me something to focus on. At first I said I didn’t want to get another animal ever again but I felt like if I didn’t give myself a new focus I would go crazy and you have to focus on a puppy otherwise they will wreck your house! So he comes home Wednesday evening. 🐶

    “It’s not dead” 😂 we all have the same problems it seems. Zygos, when they are happy, they produce huge root system… I guess the problem (or question) we all have is “what is the happy condition for them?” I finally stock back my Andrea West.
