Perfect pairing with my 1 IV whenever I'm on flights and working remotely. It's super comfortable on my head and the material is quite nice. The 1000X series have evolved nicely IMO.
@JoshuaVergara Great review 👏 (plz see questions below) You make it very clear what your experience & your situation are; which in turn makes it easy to compare my own situation to yours and form my own opinions 👍 👍 Three questions, if you could, please: 1. 09:53 The no-AC-and-no-2fans-noises ANC flex is nice and sounds great in your recording, but: When connecting to a windows PC/laptop - don't you have to choose between mono-sound + mic, and stereo-sound but no-mic? If true, as it was on the XM3s afaik, then in many scenarios - like discord convo with friends, or watching a movie in an online meeting with friends or on a stream, or sound-related-presentation work meeting from the home-office, etc - it is often better to have stereo-sound and use an external mic, which means you don't get the ANC of the XM5s helping you with the Mic... Which makes this whole selling point moot. Would you agree with this assessment? I'd love your input 🙂 2. Also, what codec do the XM5s use when connected to a pc? Because it was my understanding that there is no LDAC (nor aptX, for the most part) via PC Bluetooth receivers at the moment. So does it use AAC with windows 10? Or SBC? Or...? I'm considering getting the XM5s, and these two points are what is currently holding me back. But also, while I have ya: 3. I have noticed the cool female wearing the XM5s in the video (I don't want to assume who she is to you, so I just say female in this case)... When wearing her hair down, does she ever find that the hair triggers the touch-gestures in the headphones without her using her hand/fingers for it? I find that happens to me all the time with my crappy Hyphen earbuds, and I was wondering if this happens with headphones too 😅

Had these for a few weeks now. The only complaint I have is, it’s fine if you’re sitting up and using them, but if you’re laying in bed on a pillow as I often do to play nighttime ambient sounds to fall asleep easier, they really slide around to much. Unless you have a large head, might not be much of a problem. But my favorite part of these headphones, is definitely the noise cancellation. Especially if you’re using them to fall asleep.

As a video creator, I need to use the headphones in wired mode (due to the Bluetooth latency) for editing. How is the sound quality, ANC performance in wired mode? Is there still a latency? Some people talked about a whopping 80ms latency even in wired mode but that sounds bizarre. Great video!

Hello! Is it common for the "hinge"/"swivel" to be broken for no apparent reason? Like it suddenly became loose? Anyone here with the same experience? Tried checking online but I only saw feedback for XM4 Thank you guys
I have had the Xm4, but i just couldn't keep them beaucause of plastics and cracking noises. I also found out the headphone seemed cheap. Is it the same with the xm5 ?
I tried these at best buy and they didn't creak. I thought the gray color looked sleek and stylish. They didn't have it in stock though so I didn't walk away with them.
They don't seem to sit evenly on the ears. The bottom part of the pad is much more compressed. With the quick cut to the airpod max I could see that the pressure was evenly distributed topb to bottom Wondering if this effects comfort but more importantly passive sound sealing.
My view: XM5 is overall better. But XM4 is smaller when folded, if you need compactness. The recommended retail price of XM5 is not realistic compared to the competition, including from Sony and others. Quality versus price is much better for XM4. But prices for the XM5 have started adjustment downwards, and this may change the picture.
Is it true that the XM5s don't run their calibration constantly, so bursty environments and random noise sources - passing by, honking cars - make the headphones sound weird? Another reviewer mentioned this as a major flaw in the way the XM5s implement ANC.
At 4:05, I was thinking the exact same thing, but then that gave me the idea with my xm4's to just put them in the case backwards. That shaves off like 2 seconds and for some reason that pleases me.
The cans not being able to turn downward onto my shoulders while the headphones are around my neck is a deal breaker for me Sony. Won't be upgrading until this is fixed.
Just got these and love them! Still overall prefer the AirPods Max because of the more open and clearer soundstage, much better build quality, better transparency mode clarity and far more seamless use with my Apple devices. Bravo Sony!
Headphones are clumsy devices, but AirPods Max go beyond clumsiness, they seem entirely disproportioned. Sure, this may be a matter of taste, but elegance or lack thereof is usually appreciated across the board...

I am about to return these headphones simply because I’ve found the ANC just sucks, idk if I’m missing something but I’ve kept the ambient sound to off and still the noise cancelling keeps changing its levels which I don’t appreciate. One thing no one talks about is, does the thinner band body create any issues. Will it break easily if the headphones drop accidentally or if they get stuffed in a bag pack and break under pressure? Is the body strong enough despite it looking weak due to the thinner design?
Yep - I couldn't stand the head band and sent them back after testing them for 3 hours. It is thin, and on my head, painful after a while. The ear cups as well, they are too small in my opinion and nipped at my ears. The sound was OK, but honestly, nothing remarkable imo ANC - pretty good.

Another reviewer mentioned this as a major flaw in the way the XM5s implement ANC.
The Midnight is amazing. Listen to them every day.
That dji mic is something else . I think it amazing what’s your thoughts so far
Are these good for the gym , lifting and walking , not running .
Does Sony sell the ear pads for replacement?
Will 3.5mm cable at earcup to lightning cable at iphone work for sound and mic? Looking for a solution to go wired to an lightning cable input iphone. Thanks
Are the earcups big enough for large ears and is the padding too shallow
This is off topic but where are your glasses from?!
I wasn't really listening on the review, I'm just amazed on videography and editing.
Ok. That song video camera is insane
To fall asleep, earbuds are much more suitable.

As a video creator, I need to use the headphones in wired mode (due to the Bluetooth latency) for editing. How is the sound quality, ANC performance in wired mode? Is there still a latency? Some people talked about a whopping 80ms latency even in wired mode but that sounds bizarre. Great video!
From what I've heard they have 0 latency
I know this is really unrelated to the video, but can I please ask where you bought the cap in the plane scene? I really like it, and it'd be helpful if someone could provide a link to it. Regardless awesome video!!
Sony Website Says: With a huge 30 hours of battery life, you'll have enough power even for long trips. If you need to top up in a hurry, you can get 3 hours' worth of charge after just 3 minutes with an optional USB-PD-compatible AC adapter??
I have the XM4s that I will use for a travel headphone, and the AirPods Max that I use for audiobooks at home. Why the Apple for this? With the XM4s I kept hitting the touch sensitive controls.
Personally I won’t upgrade to the XM5 at this time as the XM4 works fine for me. Nice review!
Hello! Is it common for the "hinge"/"swivel" to be broken for no apparent reason? Like it suddenly became loose?
Anyone here with the same experience? Tried checking online but I only saw feedback for XM4
Thank you guys
Not dropped. No external force. No cracks. Is it possible that it can just be loose/"unscrewed" like that?
@@charlessherwinsoriano1996 no
I have had the Xm4, but i just couldn't keep them beaucause of plastics and cracking noises. I also found out the headphone seemed cheap.
Is it the same with the xm5 ?
I tried these at best buy and they didn't creak. I thought the gray color looked sleek and stylish. They didn't have it in stock though so I didn't walk away with them.
Can you talk about the Sony Xperia 1 IV overheating issues? I am wondering if you have tips. Mine get hot as hell when I use the stock camera apps
Hello, I have Sony 1000xm5, can you recommend me which phone gives the best sound for this headphone?
Any phone that supports LDAC
They don't seem to sit evenly on the ears. The bottom part of the pad is much more compressed. With the quick cut to the airpod max I could see that the pressure was evenly distributed topb to bottom Wondering if this effects comfort but more importantly passive sound sealing.
How are they for video editing?
How do you think, what model is better to take: XM 5 or XM 4?
My view: XM5 is overall better. But XM4 is smaller when folded, if you need compactness. The recommended retail price of XM5 is not realistic compared to the competition, including from Sony and others. Quality versus price is much better for XM4. But prices for the XM5 have started adjustment downwards, and this may change the picture.
Great review👌 can u pls make a comparison with AirPods max
Haven't seen two prong on planes in what feels like 10 years
will they work with big ears?
I want these for Christmas and I have the Sony xm4. I want better active noise cancellation.

Sorry, but for me the star of the show is the Xperia 1-IV. The colors on this are SO accurate.

I like my noise cancelling to the max at all times and the software has no such option. Absolutely hate this
Have they fixed it?
@@b-lew777 they haven’t fixed it, no. As Sony advertises it as a ‘feature’, I couldn’t even return them. So eventually I’ve gotten a bit used to it by now. Don’t get me wrong, the audio quality on these headphones is unparalleled, only better ones I’ve personally used are the AirPods Max. But I think the NC could be better, seems like a step backwards from XM4.
Do you wear glasses? When I'm wearing glasses it doesn't work well but when I take them this literally cancel everything
@@cookienoodles I do yes, but I don’t have any other choice, never realised it could be affected that much because of glasses. However my XM3s weren’t like this
@@raghavmalhotra4018 I was sceptical before I tried them without glasses but it made a huge difference for me, if you still have them give them a chance. This have the best noise cancelling i have ever tried so far.
welcome to The Philippines. Keep safe Idol
I have the 4 and the 5 . Both sounds identical... I think I prefer the new non folding design. The are much lighter but feel more solid
I woukdnt suggest any one upgrades from the 4 and maybe the 3 .
Is it true the ANC self-adjusting constantly gets annoying? I read this as a big flaw of the XM5s that doesn't get discussed much. Reviewer said it's most notable in environments with random noise sources, which makes sense.
@@ooooo5361I haven't had an issue with that
Hi I really enjoyed this video and I actually got some Sony`s myself and this video is really accurate I actually realised that I saw you on the plane I think and I didn't even notice
Do people really use the entertainment systems on planes? I travel overseas monthly and I've never used them. I always bring my own stuff or work.
yes they do tbh
I am interested in them but first I want to get the chance to see them and touch them cause from the looks of ot, the materials used look very cheap and I will not get them in black color cause I am sick of everything being black and it's a finger print and grease magnet.
Try best buy 👍 That's where I tested them
12 hours in the airplane with the XM4 without breaking a sweat. Why Sony does not cater to travellers anymore is a mystery to me.
What makes you think they don't? I have both the XM4 and XM5

Can you help me understand why you would watch a movie 2 times in a row, and then start for a third watch. This just sounds very boring and unnecessary to me.
You cannot wear these outdoors in a country like Philippines because it’s too humid and hot and your ears will sweat like mad!
Well that's me sold I'm getting a set of these on payday 😄. I'm coming to you on the Sony 5 ll
Can you take off those ear pads like Airpods Max?
No 🤨
Nice video
Wore my XM5's for an hour and they started getting way too uncomfortable on the top of my head. That thinner band was a terrible design decision. Switched back to my XM4's and no issues at all. First Sony product I'll be returning in ages.

I have 8 10 & 13hr flights year round so these better be at least as good as my Cowins NC which were actually better then the Technics NC & that's all I care about! As for sound all headphones are pretty good these days but these Sony are almost $175-200 more than mid range price headphones, I've had the Cowin e7 Cowin e9 (really nice & functional best in class for price!) & the Technics ah800 nice sound on ALL of them. I understand you're gonna be cleaning these even more than your phone the plastic is grease enhancing, obviously for the touch scan finger sensor, I love how light these are! I can wear for hours! NC IS BEST Ive experienced I wonder what the next gen qill accomplish really an interesting science also I don't think these feel cheap at all! They are in a world of there own in science tech feel comfort. Big fat TU FOR SONY! PS. I LOVED MY 13 HOUR FLIGHT never thought I would ever say that! Of course going home is always another challenge ..here I go boarding Thailand to LAX, yikes
You mostly pay the extras for the design/fit and for the noise cancellation. The NC is amazing!
The sound was OK, but honestly, nothing remarkable imo
ANC - pretty good.

If you have to say the name more times than asking the blue shirt for it at Best Buy, you are doing it wrong. It's a non issue.
I just got the XM4 instead of the XM5. tor the foldable form factor
Ashly its the best in the world
They are called XM5, not mark 5
I owned the xm5
I didn't like the adjustment system - I loved the sound and the anc is AweSomeNess PerSoNiFied but I took them back because the wimpy head band hurt the top of my head unlike my mx3 and xm4
I returned my XM5 because of the top of head pressure. The cabin pressure inside the XM5 was too high too

Hi Josh, i am using Sony WH-1000XM5. Although the ANC is great for me, I realize that it doesn’t block the background noise for the other party I am talking to. When I am in a meeting my colleagues ok the other side still could hear my background noise. Do you experience the same?
The ANC, as tecnology, isn't that perfect.
