@minoritijs Depends on the exposure time and the interval. But yes, it takes a few hours to make a timelapse film. When we shot "Frankfurt at Night" it was 1 °F (-17 °C) cold in most nights!
I have the same timer just got it today ~ It would be great to see a review on it ~ I'm sure you guys could get more out of it than I can ~ I'm new to the time lapse gig so any help would be great ~
I never really thought to do that. I guess it helps blend each shot together huh? I don't know about the higher end cameras (yet), but the 550D has a continuous timer that maxes out at 10. How many shots do you typically use per scene?
Hey man cool video, I have one question, I wanted to start my own time lapse library for use in later videos. I am curious about what is the best way or format to store the time lapses. Storing thousands of hi res images is probably the best for creative control later on when you are actually making the video, but my storage space is limited. do you recommend using premiere to create a video file? if so what are the best sequence and export settings so the file is less heavy, keeps its quality and keeps enough resolution so that i can crop it or work on it later to be re exported as part of a video? Thanks
BTW canon users we can use magic lantern firmware so we dont need the external interval timer. It's a free firmware you can download and gives you more control. look it up.
+satnamo You will need an external remote. I use this one. www.amazon.com/Multi-Function-Shutter-Time-lapse-Intervalometer-Replaces/dp/B00MRMQLIE?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
ok thanks rockas55 ;) only thing is i have already started my timelapse video using my other video cam and i was recording in 50 , that means when i use my dlsr i have to take 50 shots to get 1 frame if i want it to be the same frame rate, dam!!! wish i had started my video in 25 now. oh well,
Hello friend, i wanted to get an intervalometer for my Canon 200D. Can you recommend one ? I tried searching the net.. but couldn't find anything :( Thanks in advance
hey, i love ur videos! can you please tell me the settings i should use (what ISO, shutter speed and aperture) when taking pictures of the light streaks on the street?
You can use a crane or a slider and let him move very slowly. But this is not possible with an shutter speed of 15 sec of course. Or take the cheaper way and use hyper-lapse.
If you import lost of images that are numbered, after effect automatically sequences them so you only get one file that can be dragged onto the timeline.
were these time lapses taken on a dolly or is the image being moved in post production (ie ken burns effect)? you mentioned that if you take high res photos, you can zoom in.. are you using this to create the moving effect?
Hi HaiNam, when you say "shoot raw", I wonder if that would also mean you go in and edit every picture afterwards, I mean unedited raw pics don't really look nice. But for a timelapse that seems kind of a lot of work right? Please elaborate.
I wonder how to do a timelaps that have day and night (stars) photos ? knowing that we shoot at 1/100 in the day... and at least 15 to 30 sec at night... is there any way to do the transition of the shutter speed ? thankyou ! nice video !
well once u shoot the photos, u have to convert them to video, isnt it?? to do that u use a video editor, or after effects or even quicktime. and then u can start playing with adding some motion or other stuff
Hi frencheljanisch , im jst got my first dslr the 2 days ago and i wanna do a night tim lapse of the cars like yours at 2.33 , in this clip you say you shot at shutter speed 15, f.8, iso 100 but how many shots would i need to take at those settings to get say a ten second video? that would be a great help if you could let me know, keep up the good work!
i have a canon eos T3i 600d with 18-55 and 55-250 mm lens, is this camera is good for making a short film? mostly the film will shot in outdoor...any advice will be appreciated...
Not sure I understand, so to make a time lapse video the photo way you'd have take like a THOUSAND photos? Which is the best way, record video or take photos?
Fenchel & Janisch I want to get 3 or 4 seconds of footage like the 'Frankfurt at night' video, would I shoot at 15 seconds shutter speed and no gap between the shots.
whats the name of that device to make the settings to my Nikon D3300, it only hace an USB port to plug external instruments like gps.. can i conect that device to USB port and aply the settings? because i cant find the settings to time lapse on my camera... it only record 10 minutes of vídeo NTSC FullHD
Thank you for posting this. I am participating in a documentary contest, and want to do a time lapse video clip. Do you know how I can speed it up on adobe premiere pro cc? Thanks :)
Huhu!
i see in the video that even if you are doing a time lapse the camera stiil moving how u do it , you take photo in a lot of place or you move little bit the camera between each photo ?? & tell me plz which nikon you used ?? thanks
RebelsRebuilt Time Lapse Intervalometer Remote Control Timer Shutter Release (Check amazon) I just purchased this one, just make sure it's compatible with your DSLR.
@FenchelJanisch2 Yes, that was exactly what I thought about. I was convinced you guys were beyond frozen when filming these at night in good old European winter. Anyway, thank for an answer.
Would like to know how to set the TC-80N3 to trigger a photo every 3 seconds and create a 5 minute time lapse. I tried using it, but it only triggers a single image, doesn't keep taking pictures.
I started watching this video, then 6 hours later I found myself looking at a black screen. I think this dude hypnotized me!
made my day :D
Your videos are of such consistent high quality. Thank you for making and uploading them. I always enjoy learning from you.
This was my first and always favorite video to make Timelapse
Wow! That was very useful information! Excellent tutorial!
@minoritijs
Depends on the exposure time and the interval. But yes, it takes a few hours to make a timelapse film.
When we shot "Frankfurt at Night" it was 1 °F (-17 °C) cold in most nights!
We did the movement in post (After Effects) but yes, it's possible to create movement with motorized heads!
Another fine video from Fenchel Janisch.
Nice work as always!
This is a really good tutorial. I've been watching a few, but this one I like the most.
Thanks for sharing :D
I have the same timer just got it today ~ It would be great to see a review on it ~ I'm sure you guys could get more out of it than I can ~ I'm new to the time lapse gig so any help would be great ~
thank you for this incredible tutorial
finally a nice thorough video on timelapse
Because pictures are much larger than 1920x1080 you can add zoom and add motion in post. Take After Effects or Adobe Premiere for example.
I never really thought to do that. I guess it helps blend each shot together huh?
I don't know about the higher end cameras (yet), but the 550D has a continuous timer that maxes out at 10.
How many shots do you typically use per scene?
For the classic version (with photos) you can use VideoMach to conver the pics to video.
I have a Phottix intervalometer and it works pretty well and it's affordable too.
Did you use a timer?
(Don't forget to shoot with a long exposure - ISO should be low!)
Yes, it is. It's possible with every video camera :)
Thid guy is EXCELLENT - keep up the fab work my dear friend.

awesome informative tutorial
@NilsFromNRW
Timer: Canon TC-80N3
your voice is so relaxing
Get the TriggerTrap app on your smartphone and buy the cable that fits your camera! It's so cool!
Man merkt, du bist kreativ.
Thanks for your tutorial.
What kind of tripod do you use to make it to make it automatically pan for you?
Like youre tutorials keep up the good work
Where do you go in the camera to set up for shooting a time lapse video
with Nikon D3300 ? A step by step instruction would be the most
helpful.
+satnamo You will need an external remote. I use this one. www.amazon.com/Multi-Function-Shutter-Time-lapse-Intervalometer-Replaces/dp/B00MRMQLIE?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

hey, i love ur videos! can you please tell me the settings i should use (what ISO, shutter speed and aperture) when taking pictures of the light streaks on the street?
Well done - thanks!
perfect tutorial
2:43 Instead of buying a external gizmo, if you have a Canon, install Magic Lantern and it will do it for you.
As someone who uses ML for a lot of other features I always forget about this one!

i love the accent. its awesome.
and those tutorials are really good!
more please
OMG Thank you very much for How to make a Timelapse video.... I love it! :D

Very Helpful - Thanks. Love it!
love it , both ways are easy ...thank u ^^

Hey!! Great tutorial nad easy to understand. I need to know the font that you´re using to meke the titles. Thanks!!!
Probably a dumb questions, but do keep the flash on or off? I'm a beginner but I want to give this a try.
What format should you be shooting in? raw or jpeg?
this is helpful, many thanks.
Nice review thanks
Thank you so much!

Very helpful!!
Hi, I also have Canon 60D. I want to buy a Timer like what you have in this video. Do you have any recommendation?

What is the model of the release trigger you are using for your camera? I could not find it on you recommended gear list.
great vid..how can i convert hundreds of photos into time lapse and what software do i need.thanks ..
Huhu!
In technique two, how were you able to pan horizontally and vertically?
i see in the video that even if you are doing a time lapse the camera stiil moving how u do it , you take photo in a lot of place or you move little bit the camera between each photo ?? & tell me plz which nikon you used ?? thanks
what about sunset time laps ? its better to shoot in full auto mode because of changing light scene or its possible to do it manualy ? if yes, how ?
I love your videos
what remote timer were you using?
same question as me! It seems like not easy to take time lapse video with DSLR camera without that remote
RebelsRebuilt Time Lapse Intervalometer Remote Control Timer Shutter Release (Check amazon) I just purchased this one, just make sure it's compatible with your DSLR.
Tran Anh i think if u have canon u can do it with softwer i forgot his name
Yasser Mimouni thanks mate. I found it which called Magic Lantern
Thank you! Appreciate it!
Is there a triggertrap for a Panasonic DMC-SZ7 ?, which is what I've got
How do I compensate for the change in the brightness of my pictures from the rising/setting of the sun?
How did you create the movement in post production if you shot photos for your time-lapse?
@FenchelJanisch2
Yes, that was exactly what I thought about. I was convinced you guys were beyond frozen when filming these at night in good old European winter.
Anyway, thank for an answer.
Very helpful info. Gave you a thumbs up =)
How long is your interval between pictures? Thank you. :)
thank you!
is there a internal setup to make your camera take picture on its own?
Any recommended editing software?
Which one works better for milky way timelapse video? Take pictures or record?
