Can anyone give me an example of when an Irish player was thrown into International rugby too soon and their career was ruined as a result? I hear this mentioned so often but don't think it's accurate.
people forget that Ireland got completely hammered by New Zealand in the first test of their 2022 New Zealand series where New Zealand put over 40 points on it and then they went back the previous week and won the next 2 test very comfortably at over 10 to 11 point margin in each game, and from there went on a historic 17 game-winning streak. So this isn't unique to (Ireland) where they have one bad performance and then come back and be completely the best in the world again. Maybe it was the wake up call they needed it as they became too comfortable playing in (Dublin)
But they played well in that 1st test, they made a few mistakes which cost them dear, but watching it, I can remember feeling exactly like POM. Last friday they played badly across the board except JGB and VDF, a few other players made solid contributions but let themselves down with one off errors, but even more players just didn't deliver. The attack system didn't function smoothly, the defence system misfired and we got to narrow - an old irish issue.
Disagree with keeping the same old tired bodies in because young guys "aren't ready". Ireland are the only country I can think of who do this. Sounds like excuses. Why do we think rugby players are still kids until they are 25 in Ireland? Not picking young players has nothing to do with depth, depth will affect all ages equally. If we go into the next World Cup with a load of old heads past their peak hanging on we have no chance.
I’ve heard our pundits saying this more than once . I kind of understand how the southern hemisphere fans have this idea that we are arrogant in Ireland . When our pundits come out with these things it paints a picture doesn’t it!
Saw Edward Jenkins online tipping us to lose by 16 tomorrow. I don't think that will happen. Hope we see a backlash from the players and less penalties. I know the AB's put a lot of pressure on but pressure does not cause players to lay like a sack of spuds in the ruck, or make silly neck rolls while your team is on the opponents 5 meter line. The handling errors were not from pressure either. Cut down on those mistakes and they will win.
I've been listening to them Irish folk speak, that two match series draw is like a win for them, absolutely proud of a draw, I cant hate in it but theres clearly a long way to go
@@Trajan2401 you say that as if boks play Ireland year in year out, you are aware of that right? if you wanna be smart go look at the winning record and tell me if it's worth remembering? be real!
@@daag3805 He's had one bad game for Ireland. Game before given an opportunity and single-handedly dragged Ireland over the line away in South Africa. What does that say about his mindset? Stop talking tripe.
@daag3805 I could be proven wrong in a few hours but I think we'll win handily. Argentina are missing key players like Carreras, Orlando and Chocobares, and they don't have the deepest squad going. Plus, Ireland are most likely going to be a lot better. The negativity is far too strong for one loss against the All Blacks.
IRFU need to figure out a way of getting younger guys more club game time. Loan out to pro D2 or put some cash into London Irish(plenty of willing investors from Dublin with Leinster atm) and use that as a "colts" team?
Argentina really on fire and can see an upset here again. There were many issues with the gameplay last week. Not to say we won't win but gonna have to dig deep.
Imo Munster should’ve put Edwin Edogbo in at tight head. He’s like John Hayes, naturally big, powerful and strong. They missed an opportunity with Rowntree training him. Still an option. Imagine having Edogbo, kleyn, Bierne, Hodnett and Coombes in the pack to carry. And he could then be an Irish tight head
Hey there I’m from NZ and we are facing a similar situation that’s why razor wants to pick overseas players Would this problem you are facing be on the coach? He’s been in the job awhile now would he not have seen the need earlier?
You have a bigger talent pool in NZ but I am not buying the "not ready" mentality for not picking young players in Ireland. We have a history of this and tend to babysit players, as if when they are 25 they suddenly become 10 times better. A lot of deadwood to clear out of our team. Now they are using the excuse that they don't get enough gametime at club level, so we can't pick them.
comfortable irish win coming by at least 12. joe mccarthy looks a bit off the pace and hasn't featured much for leinster. a part of me thinks that adding izuchukwu or baird or cian prendergast at 6 and shifting beirne back into the second row would offer more dynamism in the pack. conan is a huge loss off the bench - he was tearing up trees for a time there
Interesting point about bringing players in too soon. I'm from NZ and I think we have been guilty of undercooking talent over the last 5 years by not giving guys enough of a chance and throwing them in the deep end. I think this season has proven that point with the likes of Sititi and Cortez Ratima coming on. They either have it or they don't. BTW poor performance last week or did you come up against a better team that controlled the game and put you under pressure. I think perhaps guilty of underestimating the opposition. There has never been an easy beat AB team that are truly truly poor. Some sides are more exceptional than others, but you should know the ABs are always physical and up for the fight, and they are on a come back.
I don't think the problem is a lack of talent. The Leinster academy is recognized as one of the best in the world. The problem is that talent isn't being managed or distributed properly. At prop, the point might stand, but not for the rest of the park. "We can't just throw guys in" is also such an Irish excuse. You can be sure if Sua'ali'i was Irish, he'd have to play a season at AIL level, slowly work his way up through the ranks, and get fifty provincial caps under his belt before he'd even be brought in as a training panelist.
I have a strong feeling that Frawley missing out against Argentina was always the plan so that Prendergast could get some minutes against a strong team, and that Frawley is going to start against Fiji. Farrell is by far the least reactionary coach ive ever seen; he never makes decisions like these on a whim. I also think that we're succumbing to harsh negativity way too early. Sure, it was a bad performance against the All Blacks, but no team is infallible, particularly against the greatest rugby nation over the last 120-odd years. Our fanbase is becoming too arrogant and too highly strung imo.
So good to see Eddie O’Sullivan back. What a great coach and the best commentator. Get him back more often. Jc
Echo! EO'S is head and shoulders above the rest (not literally!)

It's a load of bollox. This allergy to putting young players in is specific to Ireland.
Playing it safe
good show. Eddie was a nice bonus

wait a minute which test series did Ireland win against the world champions?

great to see Eddie again, always worth listening to.
Brilliant show
9:06 Regarding the 6 Nations, surely we have space to REALLY mix the selections up for Wales and Italy, whatever about Scotland??
What series did they win against the world champions ??? I must have missed that series
Relax, he obviously misspoke.

Very tough on Frawley to drop him completely. He just had one of those days when nothing goes right
Agree, hopefully he comes in against Fiji / Aus.
Agreed. They all did.
Not good enough ..given an opportunity and messed it up...says alot about his mindset...he's weak

Forget tradition! Eddie is correct. Reconsider the real or perceived need for Farrell to miss 6 Nations.
Great to have Eddie back! He’s a great view on the game.
Ireland need to put up a score on the Argies... Otherwise it's no longer a "blip"...
Put up a score...they could put a score up on us ffs

What's wrong with the Irish lineout? It's just not consistent.

We’re already in a bad enough situation at 10. We don’t need the Scarecrow at 10
Did Eddie watch the game....ahhh jaysus Bundi had a brutal game. I'm sure he and everyone else knows that
You cannot take out Sexton and expect the team to maintain the same level.
Argentina will be dangerous
Some of the Leinster players could be sent to the other Provinces instead of being stockpiled in Dublin
Agree, need to find a mechanism to do that fairly.

Two Red cards in the
first half will be needed,
Take one uk team, say london irish and have a relationship where irish caps can still come and 20-23 year olds get rugby
