I love you for the copious amounts of research you do for us. I’m excited that my advent calendar has had three different spfs so far. I have been stuck on the BOJ rice one pretty much since it came out. And while it is an amazing SPF and my skin loves it, I’m intrigued to try some different options.
I can’t wait to hear if you end up with new favorites! I’ve decided my BOJ rice that I’m working through now (almost done!) will be my last - I did burn through, gosh, 5-6 of those? But this newest Tinosorb S/Mexoryl/Parsol blend is SOOOO good, next level!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole so far I haven’t received any of your recommendations, but the one I’m looking forward to the most is the round lab birch juice moisturizing sunscreen. You’ve discuss them in the past, I believe? I just love that brand, their packaging is so cute and their ingredients seem very effective and gentle. And I’ve never used a stick spf but I did get the tocobo cotton soft stick. I’m definitely happy to very likely not need to buy SPF for at least the next six months if the rest of the advent calendar shakes out in a similar way 😂
@Hiiiiiiiiieeee I really like the Round Lab Birch Sunscreen. It leaves me looking pretty dewy which I don't really care since I am not putting anything over it. I have combo blemish prone skin.
Seriously I thought to myself what more can I learn about sunscreen and yet after watching this I have such a grasp of what each of these bring to the table.
I am almost finished that Purito sunscreen, and I loved it. I used every Purito sunscreen and this one was by far my favourite. I also liked the BoJ one, but my favourites were the SKIN 2004 Madagascar one and the Scinic sunscreens. i travel to Japan often and was there a few months ago, I always stock up on Allie and Anessa sunscreens whenever I am there in the tax free shops
I love that you know the formulas so well! I am loving the P Calm for my rosacea. I am really looking forward to the J Beauty video. I don't like having extra glow from sunscreen and I just learned from you that I may have some better choices in the near furure!!
I have a backlog, including p.calm and numbuzin. When I work out, I always use UltraSun. Not the most elegant, but great sun protection. Looking forward to the day I can go to a sunscreen bar and ask for extra cica!❤
How amazing would that be. I wonder if that is a future possibility (you reminded me of the Bite lab for lipsticks - I could see it happening for sunscreens, someday??)
Of all the steps in my routine, sunscreen is the most significant step where product/brand loyalty is not a thing nor do I care for it to be for a variety of reasons. First I feel like there are a ton of "good enough" options especially with the number of dupes these days (for the reasons you mention in the video). Second I feel formulations continue to get meaningfully better in a short period of time across the board meaning that you're kind of wasting your time finding a personal favorite when it's going to change. Finally I feel this is the step where you burn through the most product (at least based on average container size) so when balancing value vs. performance is a more challenging ladder to climb. With all this in mind, I focus more on the "things to avoid" based on my preferences (US filters, purely mineral sunscreens, tone-up formulations and strong fake scents) and look for the deals of the day to pad my Korean orders to the meet free shipping limits. On very rare occasions I find a dud that turns into body sunscreen, but far less often than you'd think. I still like watching videos like this to have in the back of my head what ones to pick when there are options... but sometimes I end up just picking the best deal with the highest discount to satisfy the "I did good" internal shopping urges...
Haha as I was reading, before you said it I was thinking “ah those end up body sunscreens” 🤣😂 YUP it’s so true. I’ve picked up “on a whim” sunscreens and it’s so hard to hate them (minus a few tone ups indeed which - phew - not for me) There really are SO many good options…outside of the US. That seems to be the one catch, sigh!
This is one of the BEST analysis of asian sunscreen video I've seen!! Great point about the difference between JBeauty & KBeauty. I do always gravitate to JBeauty during summer since they offers better sweat proof, water resistant property & still light weight.
Alice, I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on Skin Foods Berry Moisturizing Sunscreen (the one with the purple cap). It absolutely blew me away and was by far my favorite this year. I don't get why I never see anyone talk about it! It's literally perfect in every way. I'd love to hear what you think!
Ok I just looked at the ingredients and guess what - it’s the same formula as the first one I was talking about!! Nice find, I’ll definitely give this one a try 😁
I think the biggest seasonal change I make is my sunscreen. I use moisturizing, sweat resistance and occlusive properties depending on my seasonal needs. BoJ sunscreen is my go to when I want to wear a full face of makeup.
hi Alice! would you consider making haircare videos? I’ve noticed that your hair is looking super healthy recently, and I’m curious if you’ve looked into asian haircare (I personally love some of the korean haircare I have) 🤍
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I've yet to hear about the Lador brand, but it looks promising! I'm currently using a few: - CP-1, Premium Silk Ampoule, great for my dry lengths & ends - Forest story Food recipe soft banana treatment, a thicker in-shower treatment - the Steambase Tea Tree Scalp Water Scaler, a refreshing minty feel on the scalp I'm slowly getting more into K-beauty haircare, and would love it if you could review any of the highly-rated brands! I've seen people like the JULYME, ViCREA, A'PIEU, and the entirety of the Elizavecca CER-100 line. Your videos are so informational, and I can't wait to see your channel grow even more in the future!
thank you for this! its so interesting how the the sunscreen filter they use the same but the price is VERY varies to one another... The problem is, the sunscreen filter is so hard to memories so if u didnt point this out, i will never know.. again thank you.. since haru2 is the cheapest then i go haru2 then hahahaha
That’s a good one! My only tip with the Haruharu is that they say it’s for oily skin, which stumped me initially (it’s sunscreen, how is that really for oily or dry skin?) I discovered that what’s going on is it doesn’t play well with heavy moisturizer. I actually hated how tacky it felt when I applied it over my heavy moisturizers Lo and behold, it’s that the formula seems to interact with heavy moisturizer. It’s best worn over a light moisturizer or else as a replacement for moisturizer
The Purito Soft Touch sunscreen has been my favourite one I've tried so far, for acne-prone combination skin (more oily in summer and dry in winter). I like the scent as well, although it's fragrance-free. Looking forward to trying the Anua and P.Calm soon - will try the Numbuzin one for next summer! Thanks for sharing your in-depth knowledge with us :)
Im still loving the haruharu wonder yellow sunscreen, the p. calm and the abib sedum tube as my favs of that particular sunscreen base! I think you convinced me to try the Purito- sounds right up my alley! P.S.- my stylekorean black friday order finally arrived with the new Torriden firming cream! I just tried it out and it is so nice, medium weight and ultra hydrating!
This oily-skinned, matte-loving water baby enjoys Purito and will try Haruharu next year… or not because now I think something in your J-Sunscreens video will be an even better fit?! Kinship is still my HG for a week’s vacation in salt water, I’m so grateful for that soothing marshmallow goodness!
I will say, Kinship still has a special feel to it - if you like that occlusion sensation, it’s hard to find that in J-Beauty especially (as they seem to focus on sunscreen you will barely feel at all).
I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Anua Heartleaf Sun Cream! It's been my absolute favorite sunscreen, but I find it rather amusing how it's not as widely adored as other K-sunscreens.
that purito one is amazing. on the packaging it says that it’s matte. LIE! lol. but i still enjoyed it a lot. very hydrating and the finish is not too dewy. it makes my skin so pleasantly-velvety to touch, without any oiliness. also works perfectly on the days i feel minimalistic and use it as the only skincare product in the morning
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I've heard reference to a shared base, but I havent figured out how to know what brands share that base, thank you!
Alice! Hi! I completely understand what you’re saying about the base of sunscreen even before the salad analogy but that was great! Glad you’ve found some real SPF gems 😊
Haha glad to hear! I hope its helpful for folks to know there are a lot of similar options out there. Might help reduce the FOMO of the next “viral” sunscreen? (I’m sure there will be a new one tomorrow but…it’s probably also Tinosorb S/Parsol SLX/Mexoryl hahaha!!)
Agreed. Nothing beats Anessa when it comes to hardcore protection in hot, sweaty and sporty situations. Korean sunscreens are great for daily use but truly don't hold a candle to the tenacity of Japanese sunscreens.
Hi Alice. I will like to use the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen mist since it is faster to apply for the daytime makeup look. 😊 Waiting for the J beauty sunscreen since I also sweat easily during summer. 😅
Are you spacing out the time between skincare - sunscreen - makeup? I like to take 10 minutes (if I can…admittedly that’s not realistic every day) but it does cut back on the pilling!
Yup, I’m thinking of doing it with a twist: Asian Beauty that has replaced Western products. It hasn’t replaced every category for me, but there are some where I can’t imagine buying western anymore (liquid eyeliner oh my goodness - AB does it better!!)
2:07 Wait what- tinisorb S IS in the formula. Do you mean tinisorb M? Also first notice for me that a chemical filter can leave a white cast! which one is it?
Tinosorb M acts like a hybrid filter, so it does have a bit of a white cast (more noticeable on deeper skin tones, but it’s why even on a lighter skin tone, it needs more buffing!) Tinosorb S does not have this drawback ☺️
I am put off by Beauty of Joseon because of the choices made by them when producing products based on Ginseng. Using Hanbang, Joseon and Traditional Korean Medicine themes, then only using cheap Ginseng that is less than 6 years old is a red flag to me. It gives me the impression that they are a company that exploits the ignorance of consumers and buyers who are not knowledgeable about the best way and approach to use traditional Korean medicinal ingredients. If you can't formulate with the real deal ingredient like Donginbi, Hanyul, Sulwhasoo, Sooryehan, Yehwadam and History of Whoo, at least be transparent like Erborian with their use of White Ginseng.
I've never found any of their "hanbang themed" product's ingredient list to resemble an actual hanbang's. Not an expert, but they just seem to repeat the same formulas every second K beauty brand does. They read nothing like Sooryehan or History of Whoo...
