That Deathnote reference 😂
Thank you!!! That took me 5 minutes to edit, but it was a perfect add. I had to pin you for the recognizing . ❤
🤣 she’s very proud of the apple
🍎
@@Ara_origin Omg Ara :0 do you edit all of Alice's videos?
I love Japanese sunscreens, I visit Japan often and always stock up there as they are dirt cheap there. A lot of them have alcohol but I like how much more stronger they are than korean ones in terms of preventing burning and longer lasting. Allie and Anessa is my favourite brand. Im bilingual with Japanese so can read the ingredients, and almost all have alcohol. The ones I found that don't, are the kiss me mommy and canmake mermaid sunscreen, anessa mild milk, verdio and the curel sunscreens. Probably a lot more out there but out of the ones I bought in Japan these were alcohol free and sensitive skin friendly.
Oh thank you SO much for sharing this, super helpful!!
Ah, a video for folks who are always asking about matte sunscreens. Pretty eye make-up.
Thank you 😊
Not Alice dropping a Death Note reference so casually 😂
I still can't believe how inexpensive Asian sunscreens are compared to the west. Japan is even more insane with the bulk format. Up to 250ml/8.5floz for less than 15€.
Btw, I've been using the Hada labo HA foaming cleaner (the one with the pump) for over a month and I can finally confirm that I found a non stripping Japanese cleanser 🎉
RIGHT. Then factor in that their $8 sunscreens are better than $90 western sunscreens. It’s mind-blowing.
Noting that cleanser, thanks for sharing!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole There's also Curél with a line targeted for dry and sensitive skin.
I think I got why the ones that come in tubes are quite stripping. You're supposed to use a very small amount and work it with a foaming net. You end up with a very thick foam like a shaving cream. I've got no time for that. I'm a lazy girl so the ones in the pump bottle work perfectly for me.
Also my friend has dry skin and she's hooked on the Sana milk cleaner right now.
I love collecting different formulas and giving them to people in my family and friends group. Finding a formula you love is so important ❤
And it’s so fun when they come back to report their unexpected favorites 😁 there really is a sunscreen for everyone these days!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I know! Korean and Japanese products are amazing and in so many formulas.
Japanese sunscreen is my go to for the hot yucky and sweaty days. I like the Kose Uncut Essence! (The one you dont have to shake up)
How’s the finish on that one?
The Biore titanium is for tone up. Not for sunscreen. You should try the Watery Essence or the Protect…absolutely lovely. And runny sunscreens are great for on the go reapplication.
Thanks for the tip!
You know I hadn’t thought about the fact that every so often I do want more sunscreen, especially here in the warm Southern California summers-so thank you for this Alice! You look lovely as always and also as always you made me laugh.
Glad to hear! 🥰
OMG! What a long-awaited and useful video! ❤
Thank you so much for this video! Came at the perfect time, as i had just learned the kose suncut was reformulated
I will be going to ebisu in Philly on Tuesday to go skincare and hair care shopping so this is purrfect timing for me!! Thank you!
Cant wait to try the Nivea and Skin Aqua.
Sooooo happy to see someone do a video on anything other than a dewy sunscreen! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My skin care makes me dewy enough!
Super cute look today! Great reviews as always. Have a wonderful holiday weekend ❌️⭕️
Thank you! Hope you have a great weekend too ☺️
The Nivea one is an addition to the line (so both of them are currently being sold in Japan) 😊
Fantastic!! Thanks so much for sharing this info ☺️
the new skin aqua repackagings make them look sooo cute! i have the blue-white repackaging of the skin aqua uv moisture gel and it looks so chic!
It really is lovely this year!
I’m so sad that they discontinued the original super water gel 😔
i loove your channel so much its just easy to watch and idk why but i really like the vocal fry on your voice, lmao.
🤣 glad to hear!
Yeah, I like it too :) Adds to personality.
Love the Skin Aquas!!! And Kose Suncut uv gel !!!
They’re so good!
Oh hey Alice! Nivea vs skin aqua is quite an exciting concept
And somehow both are better than the older versions. I’m really impressed!
Both Biore UV Watery Essence and Gel used to be my favorite before they reformulated. I find their new formulation a lot more fragranced and not as matte as the old one. It's quite so sad when they decide to change the formulation you love and now you have to search for another replacement... 😢
Love your outfit!!! As someone with dry skin, you think I would love a dewy look, I don't. I like a glow from within, but a more natural finish. These sunscreens might help me get there without too much powder, making the makeup look dry and "cakey".
Love you recommendations!! Many blessings!!!💖💖💖
Been waiting for this j sunscreen drop!! Thank you! 🙏
I find that actually even a tiny bit of white cast on me = casper the ghost 😭Yes, even the beauty of Joseon one makes me that kinda pale, when I already consider myself quite a pale Asian. So anything chemical I will buy, especially your recommendations!
Watch out for Tinosorb m, that’s probably the culprit in the BOJ!
I feel the same about sunscreen despite having dry/dehydrated mature skin, I don’t want to be dewy. I am excited to order the Nivea water resistant sunscreen, because I may actually sweat, and my Nivea Super Water Gel stings when sweat accidentally runs in eyes. Stylevana often puts a small white sticker with expiration dates on it or I have heard that you can add three years to the date of manufacture.
!! I had heard that with stylevana but I keep forgetting to check. Thanks so much for mentioning that!
If it's water resistant, is that the same as sweat resistant?
This year Japanese sunscreens also introduced the "Water Resistant" rating using ISO 18861:2020 methods, with 2 stars being the highest. Kose and Anessa UV Milks reformulation are my current top 2.
Thank you for the info!
although sunscreen in japan have to pass in vivo test, water proof test of japanese sunscreen are not as strict as other country, they use in vitro system (test in pretri dish) contrast to other countries (in vivo and have to left half of sun protection on skin in korea and have to left full sun protection on skin in eu or usa etc.) that explain how they are super lightweight and cosmetics elegance, but be less in waterproofing. so even they might not the best sunscreen for swinming, I think it is perfect for summer and who sweat a lot, or ppl who work indoor but can't reapply
Yes! I learned this from toxicologist/pharmacist moskinlab. This is why I am no longer using Asian sunscreen for swimming/sweaty hot days. I’m avoiding EU too. US and Australia are the gold standard for water resistant sunscreens.
I’d heard great reviews for the Kose Suncut but I didn’t know there were gel and milk versions. I got the gel and it pilled for me, I was so disappointed! Then I watched a review from someone saying they went with the milk because the gel version had reviews about pilling, but not the milk, so I want to try the milk version this summer.
The death note reference 😊❤
I ordered a Kose sunscreen from stylevana a while ago. Eagerly waiting for its arrival even if it’s been changed 😅 It will be my first time trying it, so I am hopeful I will like it.
Exciting!! I hope you enjoy it too 😃
Ahhh skin aqua . ( I live in Japan soooo cheap here ) I have different ones .. the super waterproof the hydrating and the tone all of which I use on my body . The tone up looks lovely on arms as it smooths all the discoloration . As they are so cheap they are perfect for the body extra layers on neck etc
Thank you again for another great video . The Kose also comes in a spray so it’s perfect when out on a picnic for eg to reapply on back arms etc
Can you recommend one with a natural finish that doesn't sting the eyes but is sweat resistant? Thanks!
Thank you for sharing!
I can definitely see how those lightweight satin and matte sunscreens work in warm humid places, but for my climate, I prefer the more moisturizing (and shinier!) Korean sunscreens. I just add a little I'm Meme powder to take down the shine. It's lovely even for dry skin like mine. Have awonderful weekend as well, Alice!
It’s so true, and I love that there’s something for everyone these days 😁 hope you have a great weekend!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole agreed 100%. I feel like sunscreen variety has improved so much!
Hi Alice 😃- I have tried Skin Aqua before and Biore (didn't like this one so much) - Skin Aqua was nice, but I do remember it having different packaging (unless the outer packaging was different). I have some more sunscreens coming, and one of them is the SKIN 1004 - Centella Water-Fit (this is a new one for me) - looking forward to this. I also have on the order the Toner from DERMAFIRM-Ultra Soothing (have you tried this toner before?) plus I also have coming the Medi-Peel Collagen Thread Neck (I have been wanting to try this forever). I ordered all of these from YesStyle and I not expecting them to come soon - only because two of these products have the usually ships in 21 days beside them. Have a lovely weekend! 🌸💮🌸
That will be a great haul! I haven’t heard of the dermafirm brand, but the skin1004 is a lovely sunscreen that really does feel like applying a watery moisturizer. and the neck cream! I just love that one more every day haha
Hope you have a great weekend too! 🥰
Can you make a video about best k a j beauty BODY sunscreens?
I work in construction and I just placed two huge orders of French and Japanese heavy duty sunscreens. I reluctantly added the Skin Aqua Gel (along with my beloved Allie Kanebo UV Gel), afraid of how drying or sticky or irritaring it might end up being. Happy to hear you like it! 😊
I think you’ll be happy with it! Definitely not drying or sticky, and if your face can’t deal with it daily, it’s still an absolutely fantastic body sunscreen 😁
Thanks intruduct Nivea, my husband used their after sun lotion and he loved, now he doesn‘t use Clairin any more. i would try sunscreen after i finished whatever i had now.
I don’t know what sorcery they have in Japan, but I have dry skin and the Japanese sunscreens with alcohol don’t dry my skin out. I’ve been using Biore watery essence off and on for about 10 years and I LOVE it! I wore it while in the Caribbean for 2 weeks and never burned.
My husband has does a lot of outdoor sports and the Skin Aqua is his go to SPF. My favorite one is Hada Labo UV SPF. Super simple no fuss sunscreen. Only complaint is that it comes in a blue jar.
That one does sound nice too, although I am so surprised it’s in a jar!
Can we uhm have a review of the skin aqua tone up UV essence (the 4 shades) and the newly released biore uv tone up SPF PLS?
Of all the sunscreens I’ve tried, By wishtrend uv defense cream by far is the most mattifying/natural, no white caste at all, and now I have to go read deathnote again lol
Thanks for sharing!
J beauty sunscreen is like reliable & no brainer products if you happen to ran out of k beauty sunscreen
I recently try the numbuzin 1 sunscreen that was fully mind blowing 🤯
It’s so good that I bought 6 tubes
can you please review the other version of the Nivea and skin aqua sunscreens because they both have a sister product labelled " essence" instead of "gel"
Every time my husband deploys to oki I have him stock up on nivea sunscreen because I love it and it's like 4$ for him there
$4 😭😭
That’s truly amazing
Nooooo the Nivea sounds perfect for me but I'm allergic to rose 😭 thank you for doing all the work translating the ingredients list, you saved me an allergic reaction!
So sorry to hear!
I liked the Kose a lot but threw it away after it tested way below SPF50. I wonder if that’s why they reformulated and added the zinc.
It's so annoying that I absolutely wholeheartedly prefer matte sunscreens, but my skin also gets irritated by products with alcohol 😅 the struggle is real
Oh no!! Are you ok with sunscreen then powder maybe?
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Yes! And even though it’s hard to find sunscreens that fit my preferences, I've found two - Haruharu Wonder (not matte, but also not glowy on my skin) and House of Hur (close to matte, I highly recommend it!)
Do these burn if they get in your eyes? I've been working outside recently and it's super hot and humid (Louisiana) and SWEATY. Do you recommend the Nivea in this scenario or is there something better?
As a creator, I get so tired of reformulations. You can recommend a product and then it's null and void because there's a formula change and it's not the same at all 😩😩
I've been wanting to try a less glowy sunscreen. I just wish they didn't all have alcohol, as that ingredient really seems to disrupt my skin barrier.
I find that the Japanese sunscreens tend to run very alcohol heavy and that it doesn't last as long on my skin unless it's water and sweatproof. I guess the oils in my skin break it down too fast and I have to reapply more often. But I'm with you, I can't use them too often or my face skin acts up.
Oh interesting, thank you for sharing! I do feel like the ones that smell like liquor are my biggest offenders…so it probably is the alcohol indeed. Thankfully Suncut seems to get along with my skin quite well (and smells less like college 🙃)
Definitely for body 🤣🤣🤣 I’m afraid to even try on my face 🤣🤣🤣 I got the uv gel and the barrier essence 2 different ones I think
Tbf they really are *excellent* body sunscreens. No way I can go back to the slow speed of western body sunscreen application now!!
I've been using jbeauty sunscreens for 10+ years until I switched to kbeauty sunscreen this year. Jbeauty sunscreen was just more expensive cost per oz than kbeauty. But I guess it's the kbeauty coming over here and becoming more popular now that they're cheaper. For example I used the biore uv aqua rich and all it's previous formulations for years and back in the day I bought it for $25 for the bottle! Now it's $18. But I just cracked open the scinic one and it can't be beat for $10! Edited to add: it's the watery essence Japanese version of the biore that's nicest. They recently made a formulation in Canada and that is NOT the same. 😂
Don't recall which Aqua Rich I tried because it was recommended as perfect for oily skin, but I hated it. It remained sticky on my face for hours. I don't have oily skin, but I usually prefer a "matte" or natural finish (but nonsticky) during hot and humid summers in NYC. Is this reformulation better? The only J beauty sunscreen I swear by for summers is Anessa one. It does have a matte finish, but I don't find it drying on my skin. The only drawback is it can have a bit of a white cast. Doesn't show up as much on my very fair skin, but I think it may be more of an issue for everyone else.
The old nivea one had a really strong scent and broke me out horribly. Does the one being talked in the video have a similar scent or lighter?
Not Asian, but I'm using the daily facial sunscreen from Trader Joe's. I'm very oily, especially in summer here in FL, and I had been using Supergoop Unseen. It worked great but cost $38. The TJ version is exactly the same but only $9.
Thanks for sharing! I’ve heard so many good things about TJ Maxx skincare (and those prices are actually reasonable!)
@@AliceintheRabbitHoleIt's Trader Joe's, not TJ Maxx :D
Trader Joe's is a great hipster grocery store chain in California (not sure if they're anywhere else). They have some cool and unique products, many vegan options etc.
Can I suggest House of Hur Weightless Sun Fluid for a Korean sunscreen option that’s not dewy?
On my combination skin, I find it has the most matte finish of any k beauty sunscreen I’ve tried yet it doesn’t feel drying. It also has a milky consistency like the Skin Aqua or Anessa. It’s fab!
Yes!! Thank you so much for the rec, adding that to my cart!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole oh good, I hope you like it! It’s more matte on my skin than Haruharu (yellow tube).
I'm kinda upset with the Biore sunscreen bcuz in the product description (English 1) it did say it has no white cast n so i bought it. I should have look at the ingredients for the titanium oxide. So now i'm stuck with this white cast sunscreen 😔
I felt like the reformulation (repackage?) of the Biore UV Gel was a little disappointing as previously, the small size pf the Gel was 90ml vs 50ml for the essence. I used it as a body sunscreen as it was the same price for almost twice the amount of the essence so I could put up with the almost glittery finish and the cast XD
But now that both the Gel and Essence are 70ml, I just can’t really justify it over the essence when the essence just feels easier to apply and spread.
That’s another perplexing part of the Taiwan version - it’s 90ml. So strange!!
@@AliceintheRabbitHoleoh my gosh I watched the video during breakfast and completely missed you saying that it was 90ml. That is so strange. Did a quick search and it seems Taiwan also has a 90ml (? Looks the same size as the gel in images) of the essence with a screw cap instead of the flip cap of the japan version as well.
Thank you, yes tried the Bior é uv . Didn't like it
Just too shiny imo! I see the appeal but not for me lol
Alice would that white caste subside after some time or will it stay ?
It subsides on me, but it’s hard for me to say how that would be for deeper skin tones!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole ok thanku
Ah, I was waiting for this video - sooo curious about all of those formulas! I only have the renewed Skin Aqua essence myself lol
I was also wondering if you've looked into how specifically Japan differentiates between different types of sunscreens (outdoor/sports vs everyday)? I've unfortunately encountered many people in the West express their disappointment with the performance of these water and/or friction resistant sunscreen when many of those actually aren't marketed to be used under strong and prolonged sun exposure :(
From the ones you've mentioned in this video only the Suncut and the Nivea ones claim to be good for physical activities and the like
Interesting, that feels like another one of these limitations that comes with the lack of an English translation. I wonder what we can do to get as much info as possible out there??
Has anyone used the P. Calm Water Barrier Sunscreen?
Yes! I’d actually say that’s probably one of the absolute best K-beauty sunscreens
Will be testing that theory soon 👀
@@AliceintheRabbitHole well my beautiful lady ,I ordered it 🥳 I can't wait to get it. I did see the new BOJ rice toner. I'm happy with the toners I'm currently using plus I'm trying to wait for plenty of reviews before purchasing new products. I don't like returning products, it's such a waste you know?? I'm still tickled over getting the Indeed Labs Snoxin ii at CVS for $14.
Are you going to talk about the recent discovery that stylevanna sold a fake AESTURA ato barrier cream? 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Oh no, can you give more details about this?
Great timing on your question! I’m writing up a post about this topic as I’ve noticed a lot of questions about this (should be coming today)
So you mention a product that was just reformulated, meaning there will be slight changes in the texture/feel as well as the packaging. It’s a lot like the Suncut I show in this very video - soooo slight, but different. If someone doesn’t know about reformulation/repackaging, it could be easy to think it’s a fake! But really, Asian brands repackage all the time (tbh western brands do too)
I’m sad about the kose reformulation 😢
I've yet to find a sunscreen better than Paula's choice wrinkle defense. The only drawback is it's spf 30. It gives coverage to where i don't need foundation and it's matte. If only i could find a dupe with a higher spf!!!
That really does sound oh-so-nice! I wonder if PC would consider adding on an spf 50 version to their collection?
@@AliceintheRabbitHoleI hope so. If they did I wouldn't even mind spending the insane price lol I cringe every time I have to buy it. 35$ hurts my poor heart.
I was wondering if google translate worked on ingredient labels or just with more common words
Great question! It works, but it translates directly.
It’s suuuper confusing with plant-based ingredients. You know how we have “common” words for plants? So does the Japanese language-and it’s different from the words used in the English language. So you might see something that doesn’t remotely make sense in the ingredients lol
(In spite of this, I will swear up and down that it’s worth it to try J-Beauty; I just wish the translations were more readily available!)
@AliceintheRabbitHole good to know! I am going to Japan and was planning on using it to scope out products, now I know to maybe look for another plan
I prefer to glow like a glazed donut. Looks more youthful. Team K beauty ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do any of these sting the eyes?
Not for me, but at this point I admit that sunscreens rarely bother my eyes. If you’re very sensitive, it might be worth doing lab muffins tip here and using a mineral sunscreen around the eye area (the thicker texture helps prevent getting sunscreen in the eyes), and using your other sunscreens on your face. Hope that helps!
🐰
I wanna try japanese sunscreens, but my skin can’t stand alcohol-denat
You could try the kiss me mommy sunscreen! That was suggested to me a while back and I have to admit it’s a nice option 😊
Fun fact - Nivea is from Germany and the once sold in Japan are completely Different in there formulation from What we get in EU
Yeah I was reading about that, it really is so interesting!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Nivea is the first cream I remember from my childhood…… OMG….. remember and childhood…. Im getting old 🤣
Unfortunately, these are all a no-go because they're not cruelty free...
And I want a matte sunscreen :(
Someone recommended house of hur in the comments, would that work for ya? I’m going to try it next 👀
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Sounds great, but it's not vegan. Contains honey... I'm sorry, the rest of the world is complicated, not me! :D
You remind me of Cartoon Network
