NYVoice It's sad that the Van Halen brothers, (Eddie seems to be the one that slings the most...mud), have nothing nice to say about any of the former band members, (anybody whose name isn’t Van Halen). 'The voice from hell'? I hadn’t heard that until now, but it’s no surprise. I don’t like that crap, but I love the way Michael shrugs it off and pays Ed a compliment. These comments sum up the loss to the Van Halen 'tone': the best background vocalist in Rock.

Several things jump out of this, I will try to capture them all : Sammy's vocals are still killin' it. Michael is a beast on the bass and vocals. That drum machine sounds great. The guitarist tone is so sweet.
Vic Johnson is a low key, under the radar talent. His work with Sammy since he left VH has all been great. I've seen him live a few times, and he's fun to watch on stage.
A lot of drummers (not saying Jason) don't know how to play at a lower volume, and the entire band ALWAYS has to get over the volume of the drums. Having an electronic kit where you can control the volume allows the other instruments and vocals to come down or up at a level where you want them to be. I play both an acoustic DW kit, and a very good Roland electronic kit, depending on the size of the venue, and also what I feel like playing. I know; I’ve struggled with the same character defects. Sam is just a great man all around. A good person who is willing to do what is right.
A lot comes out about a person over the course of 71 years. Look at Lee Roth, EVH .. who these guys are and what they project. Then look at Sam, and all the hate he got by at least half of the die-hard VH fans when he took over, despite the success. Never bitter, never anything but fully appreciative of all his success and good luck And everything he steps in, from Tequila to mountain bikes to restaurants to already-huge rock acts, turns to solid gold. And he's still happy to be fronting this humble ensemble, writing easy-breezy lyrics, and singing like a 25 year-old. Not a hell of a lot to not like there.
Like Jon Anderson of Yes who's 75, they both take immaculate care of their legendary voices; Anyone who's seen Jon in ARW the last three years marvel at how Anderson sings songs like " Heart of the Sunrise " in the original key...it's really incredible. Sammy and him are also two of the nicest people in the music biz I've met, and really, really love their fans.
And he's done his fair share of everything, he just doesn't have the destructive addictive element that Eddie (et Al) struggled with. He's super Libra positive and peace keeping and humble and honest. I love Roth but it is interesting to see how the voice has changed since '78. And that's not a knock on talent or anything just that the years and the choices pay out as we travel through time and space. We're all learning as we go, but I absolutely agree with you!
The most mind blowing thing is the drummer hitting that small drum pad without even missing a single beat. Damn. Also Sammy at his age looks and sings darn great.
Hell yeah. See, this could be Van Halen with Mike and Sammy, having a good time and performing these great songs. Their loss. The Circle sounds kick ass.

I think it may have been one of his first concerts after leaving VH. I saw VH, I think with Roth and Sammy, a few years later, but the sound seemed bad. There were a bunch of other Sammy concerts around SoCal and the last one I had on stage tickets. Marching to Mars was bad ass. Unfortunately, I have not seen Chickenfoot in concert and wish they had done more albums.

Awesome Job with this Interview Howard! So Interesting
What is left to be said about the awesomeness of Michael Anthony’s background vocals and solid bass playing? Nothing! It’s all been said and all the kudos are well deserved! And Sammy is probably one of the most soulful rock singers ever! His screams are still awesome! And the dude can still sing his ass off.
Mikey is there!!!! 🤘🏻. How old is Sammy now? He’s gonna outlive Keith Richards! Still sounds great tho!
Grew up my mom and uncle listening to Sammy Hagar. This is one song that still sounds amazing after all those years.
Michael Anthony is an excellent singer as well...
This is the first time that I see a drummer performing live with a Roland SPD-SX... I don't know who that guy is, but he's very good with the SPD-SX.
Jason Bonham!
Jason Bonham
Jason Bonham. Son of legend drummer John Bonham who of course played with Led Zeppelin.
That's the son of the greatest rock drummer to have ever sat behind a kit of drums!!! The apple didn't fall far from the tree Jason. You played and sounded great! You've put a great beautiful smile on your dad's face again and for sure have made him so proud of you! Keep the Bonham name alive as you have some many fans out here that just love what your doing and makes the love we have for your father endure for all time!!!
