Guitars rcool probably the same reason I’ve done the same. I’m a DLR apologist. 1984 was the soundtrack of my youth. But the truth, unfortunately, is that Edward, Alex and even Dave have been petty, bitter, insecure and unforgiving. And that eats people up inside. I know; I’ve struggled with the same character defects. Sam is just a great man all around. A good person who is willing to do what is right.
A lot comes out about a person over the course of 71 years. Look at Lee Roth, EVH .. who these guys are and what they project. Then look at Sam, and all the hate he got by at least half of the die-hard VH fans when he took over, despite the success. Never bitter, never anything but fully appreciative of all his success and good luck And everything he steps in, from Tequila to mountain bikes to restaurants to already-huge rock acts, turns to solid gold. And he's still happy to be fronting this humble ensemble, writing easy-breezy lyrics, and singing like a 25 year-old. Not a hell of a lot to not like there.
Several things jump out of this, I will try to capture them all : Sammy's vocals are still killin' it. Michael is a beast on the bass and vocals. That drum machine sounds great. The guitarist tone is so sweet.
Vic Johnson is a low key, under the radar talent. His work with Sammy since he left VH has all been great. I've seen him live a few times, and he's fun to watch on stage.
Jim H. You’re right! I’ve never heard of him before, but will be looking for his music as soon as I finish typing. If you know of any rare appearances he’s made, could you please 'reply'? Thanks!🙏
A lot of drummers (not saying Jason) don't know how to play at a lower volume, and the entire band ALWAYS has to get over the volume of the drums. Having an electronic kit where you can control the volume allows the other instruments and vocals to come down or up at a level where you want them to be. I play both an acoustic DW kit, and a very good Roland electronic kit, depending on the size of the venue, and also what I feel like playing. I mean, that little Roland pad kind of looks funny, but look at how much room it isn't taking up, and it sounds very good.
I'm sure he could have people set up stuff and tear it down, but when your traveling its still somebody elses gear......he's doing it right...….travel light......prolly take that everywhere....
Sammy, Micheal and Jason... with Howard... I am LOL.. Sammy is 71 yo and still has a great voice. !!! This story is what Rock n Roll Legends is all about..! Thanks for the video
The most mind blowing thing is the drummer hitting that small drum pad without even missing a single beat. Damn. Also Sammy at his age looks and sings darn great.
Sammy is THE MAN! Van Halen needed Sammy way more than Sammy needed Van Halen . Sammy already had an awesome solo career. Eddie should have finished what he started with Sammy.
Sammy will be 74 this Oct 21!!! We all hear rocker's voices as they get older & WOW, he is still pretty stinking good!!! I saw Van Hagar at Red Rocks, back in the mid 90's, Awesome!!!
Like Jon Anderson of Yes who's 75, they both take immaculate care of their legendary voices; Anyone who's seen Jon in ARW the last three years marvel at how Anderson sings songs like " Heart of the Sunrise " in the original key...it's really incredible. Sammy and him are also two of the nicest people in the music biz I've met, and really, really love their fans.
And he's done his fair share of everything, he just doesn't have the destructive addictive element that Eddie (et Al) struggled with. He's super Libra positive and peace keeping and humble and honest. I love Roth but it is interesting to see how the voice has changed since '78. And that's not a knock on talent or anything just that the years and the choices pay out as we travel through time and space. We're all learning as we go, but I absolutely agree with you!
Wow...Bonham making that electric pad work...I gotta say, never thought I'd see that and like it. Way to go Jason...nice band...I wanna see these guys.
This band sounds amazing and huge props to Jason playing on the Roland Sampling Pad. Also, as much as this pains me to say... The Van Halen ship has sailed. The Circle is awesome and should not be in the shadow of VH. I am so happy we are getting new music from these guys!

I noticed with Jason's electronic drum that it is broken into sections. It seems if you hit different sections there are different sounds. You got to be good to do it right. Obviously, Jason is great. The drum set was interesting to see. Sure is easy to transport.
Yeah, I was wondering how he was doing it? Where's the high hat, the snare, the bass, the toms and the cymbals? It's literally 6 squares. It's so much harder to be accurate when hitting them, seeing they all must give off a completely different sound.
Why is it that everyone in the world can see the potential for Van Halen to have had much more success and longevity with Hagar and Anthony except for those who actually have the last name Van Halen? Great session! Thanks for putting it out there, Howard!

amazing what bonham can do with that electronic pad
Such a gorgeous drumkit! Sounds pretty amazing in Jason's hands.
I've been a big Sammy Hagar fan since seeing him at Texxas Jam '82..... Loved his Janis Joplin story he told to the crowd.
Awesome Job with this Interview Howard! So Interesting
Saw Van Halen with Sammy twice. 1993 and 1995. Still, 2 of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
Wow ! Does M.A. sound great! For old geezers .... these guys are just too cool! Still rockin .... still having fun. Good guys do finish first.
What is left to be said about the awesomeness of Michael Anthony’s background vocals and solid bass playing? Nothing! It’s all been said and all the kudos are well deserved! And Sammy is probably one of the most soulful rock singers ever! His screams are still awesome! And the dude can still sing his ass off.
Nice. Thats one killer band Sam. Jason making that Roland work. Love it!
Wow that profile pic...is that you and Sammy?!
Awesome! All my favorite van halen tunes are with Sammy on vocals
As a sound engineer i love the drum kit. lol
Grew up my mom and uncle listening to Sammy Hagar. This is one song that still sounds amazing after all those years.
